After arriving from Los Angeles , i called and the business was already closed, and not only did she call me back, but she also stayed open to take care of my son and me. She went above and beyond to make our order when she could have easily said no. While we waited, she was incredibly kind and welcoming. The conversation was wonderful, and her genuine care for people shines through in everything she does. It's rare to find someone who treats customers like family, and that's exactly how we felt. Kim's Kafe was definitely worth the visit! The pork chop was seasoned perfectly and cooked just right. The candied yams were delicious, the collard greens were cooked to perfection, and while the mac and cheese was just alright, everything else more than made up for it. I knew I had to try this local spot when I researched Black-owned Greensboro restaurants and saw the photos. I'm happy I did. The owner immediately greeted me with a warm smile and hello. I ordered the whiting fish with cabbage and candied yams, plus a sweet tea. The fish was incredible, tender and flaky in the inside, perfectly seasoned crunch on the outside. The cabbage reminded me of "home," my elders who have long since passed. Just delicious! The candied yams were delicious, flavorful without being too sweet. To my surprise Miss Kim brought potato salad with my meal and it was incredible. Again, it was a reminder of the potato salad I grew up with. Perfectly cooked potatoes, well seasoned, all the right ingredients. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The location is convenient, the restaurant is just beautiful. There's a clear no short dress code but I saw a young lady with leggings and she was denied service. She even stated she saw the no shorts and changed. There was someone who brought our food to us curbside. We ordered the fish and the chicken wings with 2 sides of macaroni and cheese, 1 cabbage, and 1 candied yams. We only received a plastic fork.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Our pork chops were over an inch thick and we asked for knives. Unfortunately... knives could not be provided! Hmmmm I can't eat this thick pork chop without a knife. My husband had a plastic one in the car and they supplied a butter knife for our other guest. *Strike 2. But the pork chops were amazing. The baked beans were too sweet as also the yams. But...I had to eat the beans with a fork from a paper bowl lined with wax paper. *Strike 3. The food was overall good and the rating is for the food but a fair rating would've been 2.5. We had no other concerns about the food. However extending the menu would be nice. Today was my first time visiting Kim's. The waitress was super delightful. We ordered two wing dinners. I had potato salad and candied yams. My fiancé' had mac and cheese and candied yams. I will warn you; the candied yams are super sweet. We also got the homemade Kool-Aid. I will say, get one and a bottle of water and dilute it. That will go a long way. The food didn't take long to come, but it was midday on Monday. I enjoyed everything about my meal. I didn't look at the desserts, but I do plan to go back and try the pork chop dinner. This was my very first time visiting and I'm sorry to say that due to my experience, it's unlikely I will go back. Here is my breakdown: 1. Kim is the owner. She was very abrupt when you called to ask a question, (which was due to the limited menu choices, and issues I was having with ordering she cut me off. RED FLAG! 2. They asked for you to order online, which was not as pleasant being that you couldn't get until, they opened at 530pm. (which online said open at 2pm) 3. Wait time was an average of 50 mins. 5. Organization was off, a young lady came to the car and asked for the name of the order and then when the order was ready, there was a young man yelling my name. Unprofessional! 5. An Unpleasant welcome was felt. When I spoke with Kim, I asked about dessert, and it was shared to let you know when to pick up the order. My order was complete. I never got to pick or get dessert. Overall, the first impression is everything. Based on the conversation and unpleasant welcoming, I should have not ordered but I was giving it a try. This was unexpected as the images on the website showed ceramic dishes and silverware. Also, there was a very long wait prior to receiving the food. About an hour long. I dined with my spouse and neither of us knew that the establishment only offered bottled beverages and no ice was available. The price of the food and drinks were high when considering the amount and quality of the food items. A beverage was $5 with no refill or ice. An entree was $20.
