Just happened to be in Greensboro and wanted soul food, so I checked what was closest to my location at that time and Kim's Kafe was the closest. I went in and the lady that greeted me was very nice and kind. I waited a little longer than the wait time I was told but that was perfectly fine. When I got home my husband and I opened our meals and everything looked delicious and it was a great portion of food. We both enjoyed our meals because we were doing more eating than talking LOL. Safe to say we WILL be back. Sorry I didn't get any pictures, we dug in and forgot about a phone. We had fish dinner with baked beans, mac n cheese and cabbage. I knew I had to try this local spot when I researched Black-owned Greensboro restaurants and saw the photos. I'm happy I did. The owner immediately greeted me with a warm smile and hello. I ordered the whiting fish with cabbage and candied yams, plus a sweet tea. The fish was incredible, tender and flaky in the inside, perfectly seasoned crunch on the outside. The cabbage reminded me of "home," my elders who have long since passed. Just delicious! The candied yams were delicious, flavorful without being too sweet. To my surprise Miss Kim brought potato salad with my meal and it was incredible. Again, it was a reminder of the potato salad I grew up with. Perfectly cooked potatoes, well seasoned, all the right ingredients. The location is convenient, the restaurant is just beautiful. I like the decor and the gospel music was a comforting way to eat my lunch. What I loved the most was the fact that Miss Kim brought out a home cooked meal. Yes, it took a while for the food to come out, but that's to be expected when someone is cooking a made-to-order meal. It was 100% worth the wait. I wish she would move this restaurant from Greensboro to Charlotte. This is no hole in the wall. The restaurant is beautiful. I don't know which is better the customer service or the food. This was my first time coming here and I will be back , the fish was crispy and not overly seasoned. The green beans was hot and flavorful and the Mac n cheese was good I would give it a 6 out of 10. There's a clear no short dress code but I saw a young lady with leggings and she was denied service. She even stated she saw the no shorts and changed. I showed the young lady at the desk the messages she went and spoke with Kim who sent her to the front with a message "Kim said today ain't a good day because she has reservations coming"! What does that have to do with items that she still owes me? No refund, sorry or nothing. I said ok don't even worry about the order I was getting ready to place for the 4 people outside in the car. I will NEVER send anyone else there to support. This situation could've been easily corrected. I will take my money where it is appreciated!! We visited very recently with a family friend from Arizona. Our party was 6. I called before going and was told there was a party being accommodated but we didn't need a reservation. We arrived at 7:30 pm and the restaurant was completely empty. We were accommodated immediately by a very friendly waiter. We placed orders for pork chops, chicken wings and fish. My grandkids wanted burgers BUT first was told they were out of buns and would they take a sub roll instead. They agreed. Unfortunately...we later found out they were out of burgers. *strike 1. We all placed our orders with fries, baked beans, green beans, mac and cheese, yams and cabbage. We waited about 35-45 minutes for the food BUT we knew it was freshly cooked..so no issues with the wait. Our food was delivered piping hot. We didn't receive the cabbage but was given potato salad as a compliment. Okay... I didn't care for our meal being served on paper plates and bowls. We only received a plastic fork. Our pork chops were over an inch thick and we asked for knives. Unfortunately... knives could not be provided! Hmmmm I can't eat this thick pork chop without a knife. My husband had a plastic one in the car and they supplied a butter knife for our other guest. *Strike 2. But the pork chops were amazing. The baked beans were too sweet as also the yams. But...I had to eat the beans with a fork from a paper bowl lined with wax paper. *Strike 3. The food was overall good and the rating is for the food but a fair rating would've been 2.5. We had no other concerns about the food. However extending the menu would be nice. This restaurant went viral regarding dress code a few months ago and I advise if you want this restaurant to have a face of upscale and match the prices... they have to make some changes. My family and I are not from this area and wanted to try something new! The food was good and was ready at the time that they said it would be ready. There was someone who brought our food to us curbside. We ordered the fish and the chicken wings with 2 sides of macaroni and cheese, 1 cabbage, and 1 candied yams. The fish and chicken were really good. It was 2 fishes and 4 wings. I just wish the wings were slightly bigger. The sides were also good overall. Best soul food I've had in NC hands down. Service was amazing, ordered quite a few meals so it took quite a bit of time to make and it is just one woman in the back cooking. This was my very first time visiting and I'm sorry to say that due to my experience, it's unlikely I will go back. Here is my breakdown: 1. Kim is the owner. She was very abrupt when you called to ask a question, (which was due to the limited menu choices, and issues I was having with ordering she cut me off. RED FLAG! 2. They asked for you to order online, which was not as pleasant being that you couldn't get until, they opened at 530pm. (which online said open at 2pm) 3. Wait time was an average of 50 mins. 5. Organization was off, a young lady came to the car and asked for the name of the order and then when the order was ready, there was a young man yelling my name. Unprofessional! 5. An Unpleasant welcome was felt. When I spoke with Kim, I asked about dessert, and it was shared to let you know when to pick up the order. My order was complete. I never got to pick or get dessert. Overall, the first impression is everything. Based on the conversation and unpleasant welcoming, I should have not ordered but I was giving it a try. I also sent a text to Kim, about getting a dessert, NO reply about the dessert. VERY UNPROFESSIONAL To place God first, she showed no positive love of God through interaction. The online image was very different than in person. The food was served on paper plates and bowls, and plastic utensils were given. This was unexpected as the images on the website showed ceramic dishes and silverware. Also, there was a very long wait prior to receiving the food. About an hour long. I dined with my spouse and neither of us knew that the establishment only offered bottled beverages and no ice was available. The price of the food and drinks were high when considering the amount and quality of the food items. A beverage was $5 with no refill or ice. An entree was $20. My husband and I both were disappointed, and decided that this first visit would be our last. We will definitely spend that $56 elsewhere the next time. read more

Wait about 2 hrs for our food. Their app to communicate with their customers wasn't working. They didn't come outside to even check if there was someone in the to go parking. Then when we called the restaurant to let them know that we were waiting, she interrupted and said "we don't even take call ins." Instead of listening to the customer, when we were trying to explain that THEIR app isn't working and we did text back and tell what car we were in. I was so eager to try this place the food was basic not really pleasing she didn't seem to have any help so there was a long wait I also overheard conversations on the premises how she fires you if she finds out that you are gay or bisexual this is 2023 people have a choice to be who they are. Kim's Kafe, where do I start? My husband and I visited this restaurant for the first time and it was absolutely incredible. The ambiance was amazing and the restaurant was so clean. Let me begin by saying we were greeted with a smile and professionalism. We were seated right away, and that's when it all began. I ordered Fried Whiting, Fried Chicken Wings, Macaroni and Cheese and Candied Yams. My husband ordered Fried Chicken Wings, Green Beans, Candied Yams and Cabbage. The food was seasoned to perfection and it was delicious. The service was amazing and I would HIGHLY RECOMMEND this restaurant for any of the residents in Greensboro or anyone traveling, that has a taste for great Soul Food and Excellent Service.
