I love Kim's Cuts. The owner is so accommodating, and has let me in after hours more than once. This seems to be the only place in town where you can almost always walk in without an appointment, and get seated for a cut right away. First let me start by saying They DON'T UNDERSTAND or speak English that's KEY to this review. Secondly they told me they "Only do TWO cut, Boy o Gorl" spoken just like that. There's a reason for that, the first time I got my haircut there was back in 2015 It was DEAD when I went in and The only person working was a younger guy who ironically gave me the best cut i ever got there Dude WREAKED of Vodka, I sat down & when I asked him if he was the owner? I kid you not he responded with saying "F*** no! I Sleep with the owner." And i dont think he was making a joke either. When he finished I paid then looked at the finished cut and to be honest it looked pretty good. I asked him where he went to beauty school at and he told me he never went to beauty school he was just "Filling in". That shits AGAINST the LAW! I dodnt say or do anything because the cut was $10 & looked decent so I couldn't complain. Fast forward to 2018. I go in and the atmosphere was completely different! All the hairdressers were old Women and a old man NONE of which spoke English! I sat down and as I was Trying to tell dude what how I wanted it cut he starts coming at me with clippers telling me "We only do two cut, Boy o Gorl" And cut a CHUNK out the back of my head! NO GUARD BALD HERE! I get up and EVERYONE of those old people start yelling at me in Korean demanding I "PAY $15 HE CUT YO HAIR." THey knew how to speak English then didnt they!? I told them no and that old dude PUNCHED ME IN THE FACE! I couldn't call the police because I'm tattooed heavily on my neck and under my eye and im extremely skinny due to having a feeding tube and No teeth because I had to have them pulled during Chemotherapy when I was a teen. So lets just say I look like a dope fiend, Who are police going to believe if I did call them? Sure as shit not me. With that said I go to walk out so I grab my walker & that old b*tch screaming at me the whole time SNATCHED IT AWAY causing me to fall! I still didnt call the cops because thats not me. She went from 12$ to 15$ to 20$ and now charges as much as a quality barber even tho her haircuts are frankly TERRIBLE. Uneven on both sides. TERRIBLE blending. Just moved to Petaluma from SF. Had an appt today with my barber in SF. Had a terrible accident so I looked around here. Salon after salon, after salon. As many will agree, It's always difficult and risky to go to someone new. Anyway happened to drive by her shop today at 8:30 am and the door was open. Walked in with my dog. Nice place though not 'slick'. She was happy to take me. Described what I wanted and she did it very well. While I have a full head (mostly) of hair with wavy curls, I'm considered a quickie. Not a 'review' type guy but in all fairness thought I'd balance this out a bit. I'm not easy and I agree with other posters that she's not 'polished'. And the 'Nam culture showed. But I'm not there to hob nob or tell stories and bullshit. Yet she did a very good job for $20 (with tip) under what my usual guy charges. I'm happy and will continue every 6 weeks or so. read more

The guy who cut my son's hair was hurting him, cutting with a razor. My son was in pain, saying No! No! but the guy kept cutting. He didn't speak English - which is necessary if a customer is saying what they do and don't want done to their hair. He just pointed to pictures of haircuts in a poster. The owner tried to fix it herself at the end but it looked terrible, and my son was in tears from pain. I demanded to see his license and she lied -- tried to pass off her business license as his individual license. Then she lied saying she was the one who cut my son's hair, not this guy. I was charged 20 dollars for using a #2 on my sides, i asked her about the top and she replied, "oh yeah, it is too long" she brought out the scissors and went at my top without any measurements. $20 for a clipper cut. Many places offer a lower priced cut if it's just a clipper head shave, it literally takes only 5 minutes and no skill - anyone with a clipper can do it. If you want to be treated like a farm animal, Kim's Cuts is the place for you. I know it's a $12 haircut, it's the covid era and it was done outside. I get it, and I was not expecting much, so to make it easy on everyone I asked for a simple clipper cut with a #6 clipper guard. No styling. Like basic training. Easy. She went at me the way a farmer sheers a sheep. When she was done (which was 4 minutes flat) I asked for a simple little snip in a place she missed and she refused. She spun my chair around and pointed to the pile of hair she had just cut off and said she had cut off "enough hair" like it was a haircut by the pound. I'm a caregiver and I brought my client in here this morning. The lady acted like she was too busy. Then had my client sit down in the chair. Cuts her hair super fast getting hair all over my client even with the cape on! I'm a very forgiving and patient person but when you mistreat people and don't act professional in your place of business I won't stand for it. So I ask her nicely if she could clean up my 99 year old client who was so happy and excited to get her haircut. And the worker acts like "why?" And gives my client a quick blow with the blow dryer not doing anything. I think to myself okay fine I'll try to brush her off before we get in my car. We go to pay with my clients card and this lady doesn't know how to change the price on her the haircut using the app on her phone. Then her card reader isn't working. We wait patiently for her to do something about it and I'm ready to walk out but I'm a professional and I'm working so I can't.... we wait and she throws her hands up like "I don't know what to do it's your card" she kept repeating "we don't take this card" getting frustrated with us! (It's a redwood credit union credit card mind you) After about ten minutes of this I pull out my cash and give her twenty bucks for the haircut. No tip (usually I would be a very generous tipper!) we say thank you and she's ignoring us now. My client says thank you directly at this horrible woman and she waved her hand like "go away" she shoos us off like a freaking bug. My client asks for her name not to be rude but to come back again and she says "I don't work here" I tell my client let's just go. We start going out the door and my client asks me what she said her name was and I tell her she won't tell us her name. Only then does this lady tell us that she is Kim the owner and I can't help but just roll my eyes. I can't stand business owners like this. This has to be the first time I've experienced this in my hometown. I needed to share my experience because this is just not okay. I asked why and was told "that's the price, pay it or I'll call the police". They have no price list posted any place. The guy used an electric trimmer on my neckline, and on each side of my head, with a few scissor clips on top. The whole thing took less than 5 minutes, and left me with cut hair all over my face and down my back. Low budget place all the way around, I'll never go back. I have super straight, long, thick hair that's an easy cut straight across. Can't really mess that up or really think twice about it....but apparently a place like this can mess it up. At the end, the owner literally yelled at me and told me to get out after I told her she was not a good customer service representative and could have the decency to translate. The story: I asked my stylist if it was normal not to spray the hair with water when cutting it to get the hair slightly more smooth. I asked her if her employee understood what I was asking. It was clear her employee didn't speak English, and she was unwilling to help. She was so rude and so incredibly unprofessional. The worst haircut I have EVER had. The man that I originally spoke with looked hip and said he could do it no problem. Then he said my hair needed to be steamed. I thought to make it straight for cutting??? then some other man comes over and starts wiping this gunk on my hair. I asked him what he was doing but he did not speak English. Then he took me and washed my hair out with freezing cold water, I asked him to stop as it was too cold, but he didn't understand, then a woman came out of nowhere and told him to make it warmer, which he did for a minute, then back to cold. I was taken to yet a third chair as she started to comb it out, i had no idea she had scissors in her hand ( my hair was to the middle of my back) Off went 6 inches and a second layer was cut about 4 inches above that, and uneven. My beautiful ombre hair was now cut into three different colors. Dark on top then uneven blonde in the middle then dark on the bottom. To add insult to injury they charged me $35 for the steaming! Total for them to destroy my hair was $55. My hair has never been fizzy until now, she did not even dry it. The man that I thought was going to cut my hair did about 10 mens haircuts, they were not sent to the steamer. I feel ripped of and scammed. If you love you hair I like I DID, don't step foot in the rip off joint. I don't even think it can be fixed with out cutting my hair very short. Nothing about my haircut was even or symetrical.
