Crumbs and food all over the floor in the 5th floor hallway.

We visited again in November after the manager reached out with a discount for our next visit due to our complaints from last time (thanks Darius!). We like the area so we figured we would try again. We noticed an improvement of cleanliness and the front desk was super helpful -- they quickly brought a dog bed to our room and even kept my birthday cake in the freezer for me. I will likely come again with hopes that the standards of cleanliness continue to be high.

The view was beautiful and the place was peaceful and walking distance to my business trip. Definitely would stay here again.

Stayed here for a 1-night staycation during President's Day weekend. We had dinner plans in the Sunset and with a massive rain storm coming in we figured it'll be best to stay in SF a night. Plus, it gave us more time to explore Japan Town during the day! Hotel Enso is within steps of the Japan Center Mall, with tons of restaurants and shops. They have an underground, gated parking lot that connects right into the lobby. There seems to be sufficient parking; however at night the lot tends to get full. It doesn't help that Teslas park in non-Tesla spots while charging. Fine, I'll just park in the Tesla-marked spot in the adjacent spot since the hotel charges parking and should guarantee guests a spot. Lots of things to love about the hotel itself - big, clean rooms with nice Japanese vibes. Friendly service. Exceptional location. Plus, free late checkout if you simply ask the front desk. Why only 4 stars? After my stay I've been getting emails from the front desks from various Klimpton Hotels with receipts - except there're from other people! Not sure if they put my email along with others on some mailing liat or whether this is attempted spam or phishing, I started blocking emails from Klimpton. I have never had this issue with any other hotel chain, so -1 star. If I stay with them again, I'll ask for paper receipt.

City view room, you can see into neighboring rooms and you are easily visible by people on the street.

Stayed here for two nights recently and we paid extra for a city view room. The room was minimal but we knew that going into this. The bed was super comfortable and we slept great. The bathroom was also nice and we had no issues with it. The location was great with lots of restaurants and things to do either nearby or easily accessible. The free wine was also nice. Overall the stay was pleasant but there were a few quirks: 1. You're provided a single robe. It's cool that this is offered but there should be one for each guest. We just took turns wearing it. 2. Like i said we paid extra for the city view but the view was partially obstructed by a tree and you're actually able to see into neighboring rooms viewing nooks which sort of kills the mood. A bit more privacy from neighboring rooms would be nice, we ended up holding the curtains up with some clips to get that. You're also pretty easy to see from the street so while you get a (subpar) view, you don't get enough privacy to actually enjoy it imo. I would recommend against the city view rooms. 3. The walls were super thin. We could hear people in nearby rooms, in the hallway, everywhere. It wasn't the worst level of sound ever but it felt equivalent to a college dorm. I'm not in a rush to rebook at this hotel for my next sf stay, but I'd still consider it given the location and the room overall being comfortable.

Only stayed for one night but all went well. We picked the kimpton because it's pet friendly. We got a great room and all the other logistics worked out well. The location was great and parking was not a hassle. They honor the kimpton specials for every season and we got to play the plinko game at check in and ended up getting some additional bar credit. The room itself was perfect and had a great view of the city (once the clouds parted). If we were traveling to SF with out dog we would most definitely try to stay here again. Our 70lb pittie is a softie but at first glance she can appear to be menacing. Thank you to the staff and team for making her, and by proxy us, feel welcomed.

Perfect location for Japantown. Clean, safe with a peaceful vibe. Front desk was so welcoming and knowledgeable of what was available in the area. Water pressure in the shower's PERFECT!!!!

We loved this little boutique hotel. It's in a great location, right by Japantown. They are casually dog friendly, no stress, no additional fee and they offered bowls and beds. They also have a small secure parking lot, with a few a Tesla chargers. The room was clean and nicely decorated. Good shower pressure, USB and electric outlets right in the nightstand, small fridge, umbrella. I loved the blue and white indigo decor, the carpeting and the yukatas. The filtered water dispenser in the hallway was really appreciated. There is a complimentary wine offered in the afternoons, and coffee in the morning. Stevie, at the front desk was very helpful and friendly. We will definitely recommend this hotel in San Francisco. So nice to be away from the hustle and bustle of the city!

We loved walking over to nearby Fillmore street for shopping and good local eats, as well as seeing the Japanese shops across the street at the Japanese mall.

I met here with an acquaintance to discuss something important over drinks & we had a special time. The nature of our discussion was certainly influenced in a relaxed manner by the mild volume music playing, soft lighting, and high ceilings. The interior was beautiful, very custom lighting covers & wooden racks. Somewhat large selection of wines/sake but it wasn't overwhelming due to the simplified menu that they provided. Service was top tier, a server stopped by about three times to collect empty containers, refill water, and check-in about how the drinks were. With a friendly expression on their face each time. The lucky dog sake juice box and beer combo was SUUUUCH a good move! I've been a fan of the lucky dog/cat/chicken brand, for their fun packaging of beers. However, I did not know that they craft sake wine boxes too. That is out of this world! And I believe that, to use a baseball metaphor, they "hit the ball out of the park!" On this one. The beer wasn't half bad either. Would I recommend going to Millay? Hell yeah dude!!!

It's not too far from the main street in the area, and the moment I got out of my uber, I knew this place would be a vibe! I came here at 7:30pm the day after Christmas, so it was empty. I love the vibe of Millay - artsy decor, pink neon lights, and cute seats to sit in. I tried two different types of clean + fruity sake, and it came in such a cute ceramics! The cashier helped us choose, and we were able to taste it before purchasing. I also loved their basket of Asian chips! They even made it a lil fancy by cutting the top and making it look like a bowl haha. A great spot for a small social gathering of 2-4 people. I love the chill vibes and intimate setting. I will defs be back!

The brewery and tasting room is located in an industrial part of the city. Upon arriving you walk right into the brewery and head to the tasting area in the back where tables are set up right next to the actual brewery. Flights are $15 each and we worked our way through all of them. They offer quite a range and our favorite was the spicy flight. Each flight came with a detailed explanation of what we were tasting... covering the brewing process, alcohol content, and food pairings for each sake... and there was plenty of room for questions. That kind of walkthrough makes a real difference, especially if you're newer to sake. You leave actually knowing something. A few things: there's a small bites menu, but you can bring your own snacks as long as you take your trash with you when you leave. Dogs are not allowed. There's plenty of free street parking. Tastings are only on Saturdays and first come first serve. I also can't rave enough about the owners who have a way of giving each group their full attention even when the room is full. Pricing is fair for what you're getting. The sake is genuinely good, and joining the club was an easy decision... members receive perks such as free flights and a discount when purchasing product. We can't wait to visit again.

The tasting room and distillery are all in the same building. I don't think the tours run daily, as there wasn't much going on when we went, but still fun to do a tasting. You don't find a local sake distillery in the states very often! They also offer a small menu of snacks to go with the tasting, but I found the pricing pretty expensive ($18 for half a tiny round of Mt. Tam cheese and a handful of crackers). We did the Sequoia and Seasonal flights. Really liked the nigori and kimoto (aged 5yrs) -- all the sake had nice, crisp, and clean finishes. The umeshu in the seasonal was pretty good, but probably my least favorite of the samples.

Staff were friendly and knowledgeable as well. I came in with a specific ask and they pointed me in the right direction. I also asked for some recommendations and he pulled a few bottles, all under $40. A super fun shop in Pac Heights. Two things that I wish were different, but perhaps just isn't written in the cards: (1) A lot of the wines are very high up on the shelves, which makes casual perusing very difficult. Asking the staff to climb up and grab random bottles just feels like a big ask. I personally like looking at the importer, ABV, and other details on the label to help me shop and this is only possible for about 50% of the wines that are accessible without a ladder; (2) Unfortunately, they no longer allow guests to purchase a bottle to drink in the shop, which is unfortunate because I love browsing the shelves at Ferry Plaza Wine Merchant and finding a bottle to open up in the shop to drink. If you're looking for a great bottle shop to pick up something to drink at home or to give as a gift, this is a great spot. Where else are you going to find old bottles of vintage Cinzano?!
