    a sign for wine tasting

Verve wine is a wine shop with an extensive collection of wines that is tucked away on Fillmore street. While it didn't really seem like they had anything to eat, I ended up enjoying a wine flight while there. It was 3 glasses for around 32$. The wines were pretty interesting and the people working there seemed quite knowledgeable on the wine. The sitting area inside is quite nice and it's cool being able to see all the different bottles stacked up along the sides. There is also an option to buy a bottle, pay a corkage fee of 15$ and enjoy it in the shop. Will definitely be back for one if their events they seem to hold there and just for a nice spot to have a drink in the future

Date of Visit: 11/2/2022 Finally visit the cute wine shop on Fillmore Street. Besides shopping for the wines, there is a big marble table in the middle that you can enjoy a glass or two. I got the Wine Flight $24. The day when we visited it is Around the World flight, with 1 white and 2 reds. 2021 Andre & Michel Quenard Les Abymes 2020 4 Monos Viticultores 'GR10' Vino de la Sierra de Gredos 2020 Brovia Sorì del Drago Barbera d'Alba There is also an option of open a bottle. They charge $15 corkage fee if you want to consume in the store.

The bottle I enjoyed. Your selection will likely vary. Beautiful place!

Verve and I are going to be seeing a lot of each other. It's recently come to my attention, after a visit to Verve, that my favorite way to drink wine is pretty much anyplace I can purchase a bottle at retail cost and consume that bottle on-site with little or no additional mark-up. If I can do that in a place with a stunning interior, one that makes me feel better than I actually am, all the better. Verve and I? We're going to be BFFs. The original Verve is a wine shop in NYC's Tribeca. The concept is improved upon in San Francisco. Intimately surrounded by walls of wines, priced from completely reasonable (bottles can be found in the $20 range) to completely unreasonable, there's something here for every price point. The staff is well-versed in directing you to a selection should you be capable of describing what it is you like and throw no shade if you start by saying "I like something in the $40 and under range...". Once you've decided on a bottle, swanky glassware with the thinnest of stems is laid in front of you, and that bottle is yours to enjoy. Seated communally at the gorgeous natural stone tabletop that dominates the entire center of the shop, sharing wine with your friends, you will surely strike up conversation at some point with those nearby. What a lovely invitation. Verve has a couple of oddities that I think they could improve upon: * Wine flights can be had here but there's no printed information on pricing provided to guests; and * Food is of the cheese/charcuterie genre and they were out of much of it at the time I visited. That said, I wasn't interested in food or flights during my visit so I had nary a complaint to register. It's fair to say I have a big old crush on Verve.

This is a great spot on Fillmore! I came here with my boyfriend for a tasting before dinner on a Saturday. We walked in and didn't have to make an appointment. The ambience is incredible, the music great, and the service top notch. There were two staff on hand that seamlessly served us our different wines. We did a tasting of 3 wines. All 3 wines were truly something special and the portions were much more than you typically expect at a tasting. We ordered the trio of cheeses and crackers as well and were blown away by the relatively low prices for the area, as well as the unique selection of cheeses. You get a good serving of cheese as well! After the tasting, we were not pressured at all to buy any wine, which is always nice. I would come back here to buy wine in the future if I was not headed out to a restaurant afterward. Overall, I had a great experience at verve and will come back again!

This is the same Verve, as the one from NYC's Tribeca neighborhood. It's one of the new places now amongst other nice shops along Fillmore Street in Pacific Heights. Inside this beautiful new space, you'll find wines from all over the world at varying price points. I saw many in the $20 to $50 price range. Unfortunately, I arrived when they were just about closing, so I didn't get a chance to chat with them extensively, but if you're in the neighborhood, it's worth a peek inside. The huge marble table in the center is a wow-piece! I wish I had a kitchen that would accommodate a huge center table like that. If you want to rose all day this summer, they have a huge offering of rose wines out in front. I love a glass of rose in the warm weather, but I think it's really because I like the attractiveness of the pink blush hue in a wine glass. Their focus is on wines from smaller producers, which make your wine buying excursion ever more interesting. They also pride themselves on service and provide sommelier consults for you on wine selection and wine pairing. You can also book tastings and seminars with their sommeliers.

Beautiful wine shop with a great selection and impeccable service. The staff is very knowledgeable, helpful and friendly! Highly recommend Verve Wine to everyone in SF looking to buy wines. They also host a ton of food & wine events so subscribe to their instagram and website.

Street parking wasn't too bad especially compared to other parts of the city. Even on a Friday evening, I was able to find free street parking just a block away. The inside is very spacious. It has a rustic farmhouse meets warehouse vibe with a huge wall full of wine for purchase as well. I like that the tables are pretty spaced out so I don't feel cramped. Dinner was excellent! For starters, we had the scallop with beets and avocado. The scallops were juicy and paired well with the sweet beets and creamy avocado. For my main, I had the trout. It was cooked perfectly and seasoned just right. The small crispy potato chips on top added a nice crunch. The asparagus were delightful. They had a subtle "sweetness" that can only be found in fresh, high quality produce. For dessert, we had the olive oil cake. I loved that it wasn't too sweet and paired well with the slightly salty strawberry and the tart lemon curd. Overall, a really good meal! I appreciated that Ungrafted honors the ingredients and aren't trying too hard to be fancy or gimmicky. Service was also friendly and attentive but not intrusive. Would definitely recommend this spot to family and friends!

They are a great retailer, very knowledgeable of wines old world and new. They have a fantastic selection. My issue is with their auction business, which I think they have very little they can do about it as they are taking the word of the sellers that the bottles have been properly cellared. Multiple Aubert Chardonnays (2014-2017) bottlings, top end, have been clearly past their prime despite being in the start of the prime drinking window, and one bottle that was very tired. So it seems to be less of the "rare bad bottle" problem and more of a systemic issue with some of their sellers. I'll change this review if other such start-of-the-prime-drinking-window bottles through K&L prove to show they are drinking well and increase the ratio of good to bad items. I have a lot more of these bottles to test. Edit: may 2026 - a few more Aubert Chardonnay's going back to a 2018 Eastside were opened and we're all spectacular, crisp and peaked. Our stats are much better now on the aging of chards through the auction. Changing to 5 stars.

Part of the thrill, of course, is the hipness factor, the ego-inflating I-know-something-or-somebody-you-don't-know feeling that comes with being on a VIP list." So naturally, when the opportunity for me to eat at one of these "homegrown supper clubs" arrived I jumped at the chance, particularly since my friend and former colleague, James Stolich, was at the helm. I had no idea what to expect when I arrived at the beautiful San Francisco flat James lives and cooks in. After a tour of their home, I joined James in the kitchen to watch him in action as he prepared a six course meal for twelve. His marble counter and timeless appliances are the stuff self-professed epicureans like me dream about (while living in studio apartments with little counter space and undersized refrigerators.) Having known James in a primarily professional capacity (we worked together at a UK-based digital business consultancy during the height of the dot com boom) it was a joy to see he's as adept at cooking as he is as an interactive producer. The crowd on Friday night was as eclectic as it was international. As Pia is from Italy, the Italians were well-represented. Other folks hailed from a variety of exotic locales including Queens, Atlanta, Romania and France. While some folks congregated at the table, others mingled in the kitchen either helping James or quizzing him on his preparations. The night began with champagne and appetizers which included prosciutto and roasted cashews with olive oil, sea salt and lime. The subsequent six courses were wonderfully prepared, seasonally appropriate and above all, delicious! From the burrata cheese and golden beet salad to the restaurant-worthy sweet tomato gazpacho and the handmade gnocchi, I was thoroughly impressed at every turn. If you're growing bored of the restaurant scene or just want to try something new, I highly recommend Cook With James.
