This is a stunning and beautiful store that stands out in the hustle and bustle of SF Chinatown. This is not your place to go if you're in the market for a cheaply made satin robe that will fray with 1 wear. But if you're looking for a capsule wardrobe piece made of luxurious, hand-painted silk robes as a gift or for yourself, this is your place to be. I have traditionally thought of robes being bedtime attire but this store has changed my mind. They have shown me just how chic these comfortable and beautifully crafted robes can look so well put together when paired with the right outfit (eg jeans, heels, and blouse or a silk dress). The store and staff are welcoming and I appreciated that they carry a range of sizes (petite to plus size) and prices (~$100-300 range). Their inventory changes but they do always have cute accessories like jewelry, incense, candles, crystals, books, and lotions for sale as well. A bit pricey, but with the right color, right length, and right print, I truly believe the kimonos here are so worth every penny you spend. I initially bought a light blue, long kimono from them years ago, which garnered many comments while I did errands or walked the dog around my neighborhood. Unfortunately, when I had a huge renovation project in my home, the kimono's threads were pulled and ruined the kimono, which I consequently donated to Goodwill. I still think about the kimono a lot and when I passed by the shop again while walking through town this week, I bit the bullet and went in after a couple of years since the absence of my beautiful kimono and refusing to buy another one since the loss sat pretty heavy with me (it was a real shame and I never recouped the loss of the pricey kimono as well as other ruined garments that I owned from the general contractors who ran that remodeling project for my home). The lady manning the shop the morning I went in was extremely friendly and helped me ultimately pick out my new kimono, a black one with hand painted cherry blossoms. I will definitely be more wary of and careful to handle in the event I have another huge home cleanup or project. Be sure to note, unless you're buying the thicker kimonos, all of the others are 100% silk and are recommended for dry cleaning ONLY (but also, make sure to read up on reviews of cleaners ruining finer, more fragile fabrics, as not every cleaner has the same quality of care, as I've learned). So far, I'm very happy with my new kimono and intend to wear it out more as a fashion statement rather than a home or errands-around-the-neighborhood kind of robe. read more

I wanted my mom and I to have something nice to wear for my getting ready photos on our wedding day. I was on a time crunch and didn't have time to visit the store in person, so I ordered two kimono robes (Peony and Butterfly in white for me, Aimi in blue for mom) online. They were sent and received quickly. The packaging was very nice and thoughtful, and the kimono robes look just as beautiful in person as they do in their pictures, if not more so. My mom and I are both very petite (5'0" and small framed), so I did wish that there were more sizing options other than the one size fits all. Maybe the silk robes are worth it but at $150.00 for polyester this robe is a nightmare!!! Thin tie that's more like a rope around the middle , absolutely nothing stays in place ! So if you want to keep adjusting one side over and over . High price point for a Kmart robe . Cute selection of kimonos. I bought several in the past few years for gifts. The staff is friendly and helpful.

Some robes are silk, others are 100% polyester. The cost difference is negligible which seems strange and can make it easy to make a mistake on the fabric you want. The return policy has a $20 charge associated with it and the instructions are needlessly complicated for returning just one clothing item: the instructions are on the same sheet as the "return note" that needs to be sealed in the return envelope which seems a bit cheeky and inconvenient. The response from the Kim and Ono rep is appreciated in terms of clarification on materials and cost--thank you. However regarding the shipping, the other cheaper return options are not available to people outside of the US (I am a customer in Canada). The process to return a product for people outside of the US is in fact inconvenient. Many of the robes are very pretty and seem high end but, especially close to the holidays, with online-only shopping sometimes being the only option (to both obtain products and to support businesses), having to follow a page-long list of instructions and being limited to shipping the package back via DHL makes for a bad experience with returns. Returns are pretty standard parts of shopping online; customers like me who made a mistake on the type of material they want for example, want to come back again. However, when the return process involves paperwork, and out of pocket DHL shipping costs on top of a CA$21.19 fee shaved off the total returned cost, what should be a simple process offered by the store arguably becomes excessively inconvenient and barrier-ridden for the customer. I would have very much liked to keep looking at the silk robes Kim+Ono offers as that is what I originally wanted--it's hard to find pretty colours and designs like this, so I wouldn't have minded in investing in one at a higher cost. But after making a mistake on the material and this wanting to do a return, the return process has been both inconvenient condescending so far. read more

Was in San Francisco for a few days and came across this little gem of a store. The ambiance is very modern and hip. They sell an assortment of silk and polyester Asain style robes for day wear. I guess you could use them as robes around the house too. They also sell other items such as essential oils and senté, crystals and Jade rollers for your face, which is love. The staff was not very helpful, probably because they were very busy. But I was able to find something I liked and pay with no problems or hassle. The young lady at the register was able to provide me with a freshly packaged product instead of the one that was on display. This was a wonderful experience and I enjoyed the unique designs of products this store had. I will definitely be back to buy another! read more

Stumbled across this store while walking through Chinatown. What made it stand out was that it didn't look like it belonged there, but in a good way! Beautiful, open, airy and light inside the store. A large selection of kimonos and I felt the prices were reasonable too. As low as $35ish to $120ish. They even had a clearance rack, which is my favorite part of every store! You don't purchase the kimono you pull off the rack. To my delight, you are provided a brand new and still in the plastic wrapping kimono. It is packaged with care and inserted into a thicker bag. There were racks of various patterned kimonos organized by colour. The store was well laid out and felt spacious. They also sold other items such as essential oils, candles, and rollers for your face. Trying on the kimonos was so fun and I eventually settled on a beautiful mint green floral pattern. I ordered the midnight color yuri silk short robe online. The robe I bought said 100% silk but it's actually artificial silk. The quality is not smooth as the genuine one although the yuri print is ok. The lustre and weave is even just like the polyester one I got before. Beautiful robes. I ordered one online for a birthday gift for a friend. It's unfortunate that I cannot order one for myself as they are not size inclusive. Their 'curve & plus' size robes are not large enough for us plus size girls. Also the longer robes are too long, so only option for petite is the short robes or having a longer one cut & hemmed, potentially destroying the beautiful designs. When I made the comments directly to them, their response was to say that they did study the sizes & basically that was that. Very disappointed that a woman-owned business has no concept of All women's body types & not just the limited models that they use. read more

Very elegant boutique located in the heart of Chinatown in San Francisco. I went in looking for a nice kimono and they had many coolers and styles. They are made of 100 % of silk but my only question or concern is that there's no brand tag only a white little one on the bottom where it says from China and is made of silk and dry clean only that's all the information you get from a $120.00 piece. If I pay that amount at least put a tag on the neck to make sure is authentic not a piece that look like the neighbor stores that were selling them for $25.00. I don't know I am not about brands I am just would like to see some kind of label when you purchase them and then it's up to the buyer if we want to remove it or not. Staff is outstanding very nice girls and the place is ridiculous beautiful and modern. I got a grey Kimono and the staff recommended me to wear it with jeans and to be honest I word it the moment I left the store and someone ask me where I bought it. I will go back next time I visit San Francisco is a must go see and buy next time you there but please add a brand name tag to the neck thanks. read more
