Ms. Kim is FANTASTIC! Quick, well priced and so friendly. I take all my alterations to her and recommend her to all friends and family. She knows what she is doing and will not steer you wrong with a suggestion. That being said, she will turn away an alteration of she thinks the quality of the garment would be compromised with the alteration. A friend took her wedding gown in (handmade from Etsy) to have some changes made and Ms. Kim declined because she did not think the garment could hold up to the changes. Although disappointed, my friend completely understood. Ms. Kim is about quality! I would tell everyone to go see her but then I would never get in for my items!! As a note, Ms. Kim has a heavy accent from her native language so sometimes that can make it difficult to communicate but she will always make sure you understand what she is doing before she starts working. read more

Best tailor I've been to in the city. Expertly tailored 5 pairs of Jos A Banks pants I'd bought online for my (very tall) hubby. We weren't in a rush for the pants, and they were ready within a week. Kim lost my husbands wedding suit jacket. Worst Experience! We purchased a suit for our wedding on sale in March, in May we took it to Kim to be altered for our July wedding. When we went to pick up the suit she tried to give us a jacket that didn't even match the pants. While we understand mistakes can sometimes happen, she accused us of bringing in a mismatched suit. After many trips back, and tears she did give us some money to replace the suit (even though Macy's had sold out of the suit by then). I would NEVER recommend her to anyone. read more

I am more than please with how my gown turned out. She hemmed three layers of fabric and tightened the bust area for me within 2 weeks. Price was very fair and she was so kind towards me throughout the entire experience. She also seemed very honest about what she can or cannot do based on the fabric. When I went to pick up my dress, she gave me some recommendations on how to hang my dress to avoid pulling at the straps (which are beaded). Really cannot recommend her enough! read more

I checked out Kim's on my lunch break to get a bridesmaid dress altered. She was the sweetest woman! She joked and laughed the entire time while pinning up my dress, and provided quick, affordable, and quality service on my chiffon dress. The only *slight* downsides are the location (Court Street parking can be a pain during the week day), odd hours (10am-5pm leaves you no choice but to go during a week day) and you are required to pay in cash. But despite those things, I'll still be bringing my business back to Kim Dao's! read more

Super fast service with a great smile on the face & understanding my situation! I was in Cincinnati for a conference, and had forgotten my suit back home. Kim Dao does amazing work. As a new Cincinnati resident, and needing a bridesmaid dress altered, I wasn't sure where do go, but got lucky with Kim Dao's as I ended up just picking a place with a location/hours that would work for me. She's very precise and does quick, high quality work, for a great price. She's also very friendly and great to work with. I had a long 2 layered dress that needed hemming and also needed the bust area taken in, but in a unique way as the cut is very different. I wasn't sure it would be possible to fix, but it was no problem for her. will go to kim for all future alteration needs. and she's right near some great lunch places, so it's a convenient stop during the lunch hour while at work. read more

Kim Dao is incredibly quick, indeed. I had three pairs of pants that needed a hem and she completed the work in just over three hours! Now that's service. The hems appear to be of acceptable quality and the price was very reasonable ($8). read more

I took my wedding gown to Kim to be hemmed, have the top taken in and the lining of the skirt let out. It was not a good experience at all: -She took in the top in, but just sewed the layers together on the side rather than taking it in at the side seam. It was still too big in the bust but she wouldn't take it in any more. She suggested I get a strapless bra, which I did but that didn't correct the problem. The boning in the bust was still sticking out. When I told her I didn't like it she said she couldn't take the boning out, that no dress was going to be perfect and I should just be happy. -When she let out the lining in the skirt and added panels, the new seams could be seen through the skirt, so she had to tear it out. So I paid for something she had to undo. -She also didn't properly hem it- a layer of netting was longer than the top layer of lace. -She never even asked me if I wanted a bustle. -She doesn't take appointments. She suggested I come either as soon as she opened or right before close when she would have the most time for me. At my last "appointment" three men came in to have suits tailored and she juggled all 4 of us so I felt I wasn't getting the attention I needed. Basically I paid $160 to have nothing done correctly. I have taken my dress to another seamstress who couldn't believe the shotty work Kim did. Kim has a lot of business but it seems to be mostly men's suits. read more

Awful. She never listened to what I needed and was focused on every new person that walked through the door. Several tmes I had to assertively express my concerns as she was clearly distracted. I told her at the time she pinned my hem that I thought it was too long. She told me it would be fine. When I picked it up it was dragging the ground and I could not walk without tripping. She redid but pointed out that it would need to be picked at mid day on a work day for me as she was leaving on vacation. In addition I had asked for a strappless bra to be sewn in to replace that which came from the manufacturer in order to offer better support. She said that I should just wear the bra I brought with me under that which was already sewn in. Let's just say in the pictures it was not the look I had hoped for. She might be great for a pants hem or loose button- but otherwise stay away! read more

Do not go here. The place is filthy, you risk getting dirt and grime on the bottom of your clothing when trying it on. It's dark and hard to see detail in here. Lastly and most importantly Kim doesn't listen to what you want to be done, and does minimal work. After paying 90 bucks to have a gown slightly altered on the hips, literally taken in with basic seam it was still too loose. Waste of money. Had to take it to another seamstress who might I add did an amazing job. I've also taken jeans to her, she did a lackluster job. I had taken a color block dress to her recently, she said she could not alter it bc of the color block might not match up afterward. Basically, she is grumpy and unaware of any style of clothing other than traditional formal wear of Middle Aged businessmen. Blah lol. Look at my reviews and you will find an amazing seamstress, who by the way, made my color block dress fit like a glove! Viola baby! read more

I started visiting Kim Dao's shop about 2 years ago. Since then I have had nothing less than superb service. She is polite, funny, and professional. She will tell you honestly what you should and should not attempt with a garment and what is the most flattering fit. She has saved several of my favorite pieces by repairing or updating them. She also takes brand new pieces and tailors them to perfection. Her location and hours are very convenient. I have been satisfied with every job I've taken to her. She does not disappoint! read more
