1st time at Kilwins about a week ago. Asked to try a sample of a particular flavor and was told no. When I was asked why, I was shocked to hear the answer. Due to Covid...Meanwhile, the employees WERE NOT wearing masks. Shame on businesses still using the "Covid" excuse. I will not be back for a 2nd trip. read more

I stopped in here in the evening for a little treat. There have lots of chocolate options! I had a rice krispy treat dipped in dark chocolate and hubby had a twinkie dipped in milk chocolate. It was about $7 for the two items. This is set up like an old fashioned candy store with the displays in the middle of the room and the small tables with chairs. It kind of reminded me of the candy shop in the original Willy Wonka movie. They sell ice cream here as well as coffee, hot chocolate, fudge and other chocolate desserts. They have packaged items like chocolate cigars and caramel corn as well. Everything is all shiny and new and the employees are very friendly. This is located right at the corner of Hale and Front Street. There's a smaller candy and ice cream shop on Front Street, Graham's, and I would have to say that I like it better than here. The prices at Kilwins seem to be kind of steep. read more

This place just opened and I can't believe the mixed reviews it already has! I went in on a Saturday when they were very busy. I was pleased with my experience and I will be returning. Upon my entrance the friendly girl behind the counter explained a few things about their products and offered my boyfriend and I sampled of fudge. it was delicious. We talked to her briefly then head towards the ice cream where we each picked out some sample flavors and got a scoop to split. The ice cream was very rich and I'm not sure I could finish it on my own if even if I wanted! The store is clean, spacious and well organized, but since it's new, I'll check back in a few months to see if things are still the same :) The people behind the counter are young, and may be working their first jobs. They tried very hard and I'm sure with time, they'll get better; after all, the place is new, they're new, and things need to be seasoned! I purchased peanut brittle for my dad, because it's his favorite, and I've got to say it's probably the best peanut brittle I've ever had. I never liked what my dad would get until I tried theirs. It was sweet, very crunchy and not overly tacky where it sticks in your teeth and is hard to chew. I also think it was well worth what I paid because it was very fresh tasting and the portion was decent. Overall, I can't complain. I see other reviewers comparing this place to Graham's but they're kind of apples and oranges. Graham's is more "fine chocolates" and this place has more kid-friendly "fair" type treats. In my opinion they're both delicious and serve completely different purposes. read more

This place is amazing! I've lived in Wheaton for 18 years and Kilwin's is by far the best ice cream store that has ever been here. The owners are very friendly, and the treats are out of this world. I highly recommend stopping by if you ever get the chance. I love the 'Wheaton Mud' ice cream read more

I was meandering around downtown Wheaton with the bf when we happened upon Kilwins and decided to take a peek inside. We were immediately greeted by one of the workers who insisted that we try some ice cream samples. He was so friendly and kind that we felt bad leaving without buying anything. There were so many different ice cream flavors that it was hard to choose just one. Pistachio is normally my go to flavor, but it had a weird taste to it. We settled for the cinnamon crumb cake ice cream, which was satisfying but not spectacular. Everything at Kilwins is a tad bit pricey (it was $5 for just one scoop of ice cream). read more

Great Ice Cream. Faith was the best. We had a large order. She got everything right and was so happy to serve us. Faith made us feel welcome and took great care of our frozen treats. We love the ice cream, but we'll come backs because of Faith H!! read more

I'll admit, I'm pretty biased when it comes to ice cream parlors. They remind me of great times with family when I was a kid and it's hard not to like the environment they provide. That being said, Kilwins strikes me as a particularly great parlor. The selection of ice cream will abandon some popular flavor sets like sherbets in favor of some interesting originals like Wheaton Mud or Mackinaw Island Fudge. Although Sherbert fans will be disappointed, some unique features tend to make up for it. From the moment you walk into Kilwins, you'll be greeted by smiling staff members and a beautiful interior paying homage to the golden age of ice cream parlors. The waffle cones are warmed under a heat lamp which gives a unique touch to the ice cream. They're warmed just enough to not melt the ice cream. There's a selection ranging from bowls to your choice of cone (sugar, waffle, or cake cone). The flavors are rich, creamy, and overall some of the best ice cream I have ever had. Another unique feature is the combination of a retail store with this location (I can't speak for the other Kilwins locations). The ability to buy candy, syrups, malt powders, and chocolates alongside your ice cream is a great pairing. So what makes Kilwins lose a star? Although the flavors are good, there's not much variation for those that don't like super sweet ice creams like chocolate flavors. The lack of sherberts shuts out an entire market to Kilwins. Sure, there are flavors like lemon meringue pie, but these flavors won't care as much weight with sherbert fans. If you're in town, I recommend stopping in at Kilwins to at least look around at their chocolates, candies, and other assortments of goodies. Kilwins is a fun shop to check out if you're walking around town or driving through. If you want good, rich flavored ice cream this is definitely a parlor to not pass by. read more

Lucas is the best employe. Super kind person and calm and chill and because of him I will come back. Please give him a raise.

Kilwins has always been a vacation treat spot for us in MI so I went into the store knowing I would love the ice cream and it's a pricy treat. The store was very clean and the employees offered us a free sample of fudge when we walked in. The owner was also there and he talked to us about the stores in MI we have visited. He was very nice and seem excited the store had been opened for 3 weeks now. We shared the chocolate Carmel pecan ice cream which was really good. It has chocolate covered pecans in it which was a nice surprise. This is the first ice cream I've had at this location but the sea salt ice cream and Wheaton mud are also good choices (well at the MI stores at least). One scoop of ice cream was over $4 but it's large enough to share. On vacation I always buy the salt water taffy and fudge to take back home because it's a treat but I don't know if I would spend the extra money day to day on this. With all the other good ice cream spots downtown Wheaton this won't be the only place I would go but will had to our rotation of ice cream spots. I would say it's worth a stop in to try but go into it knowing it's going to cost a little more so you aren't surprised by the price. read more

DELICIOUS FUDGE. I had never tried it before and wish I had discovered it sooner. I appreciated getting to taste it ahead of time. I really liked the peanut butter chocolate fudge especially. I have been to the Saugatuck, MI location quite a few times and was excited that they came to Wheaton. It's a smaller store but has a good selection and the service was friendly. Try the fudge! read more

So Kilwins was very good. I love classic ice cream parlors that have different flavors and this one fits the bill. Inside smells sweet and robust just like their ice cream. My boyfriend and I came here after a date night and decided to get ice cream as we walked down the beautiful downtown Wheaton. When we walked in we were really excited about all their "different" flavors. I wouldn't exactly call them unique because they are pretty standard flavors, but not ones you would find at just any place. I got the peach flavored ice cream because I wanted something refreshing and a nice fruit flavored ice cream seemed perfect. My boyfriend go the butterscotch flavored ice cream. Both were very good, creamy and delicious. However, the ice cream was very expensive. For 1 single scoop and 1 double scoop ice cream in a cone with a can of Sprite it was over $15. As I mentioned, it is not as if the ice cream was unique, it just was not common. It was not worth the price it cost. Everything is way over priced. Overall, I feel there are better ice cream shops in the area and even after a few minutes of travel. While the ice cream was good, it was not worth spending the money to try a second time. read more

Thanks to Lucas who let us grab some some yummy treats minutes before they closed. He was so nice and helpful. Thanks for the late night treat! read more

Ohmygosh, this place is absolutely wonderful! We stopped in for ice cream yesterday and everyone agreed that it was the best ice cream we'd had in a long time! I got some banana chocolate flavor, with hot fudge on top. It was seriously to die for. My fiancé got the same, my mom got toasted coconut and my daughter had mackinac island fudge. They were all divine. Everyone was friendly and the store was clean and organized. The ice cream was very reasonably priced, especially for how good it was! My mom brought home some salted caramel fudge, which she said was great as well. This is the perfect place to go for a treat! read more

$17 for an 8oz box of turtles is ridiculous! The chocolate is milky, but the ratio of caramel and pecans to chocolate is much less, so all you taste is the chocolate. read more

This is my favorite ice cream parlor in the western suburbs. The staff there is very friendly and nice! Almost always they ask if I want to sample their fudge. I love their ice cream flavors! Kilwins Ice Cream - Chocolate - Fudge - Ice Cream & Frozen Yogurt Near Me - Wheaton, Illinois

Kilwin's has the best quality ice cream around. Though it is a bit pricey, the ice cream is so creamy and delicious that it is worth the cost. And the shop always smells like a chocolate factory. Would definitely recommend if you're willing to pay for some great quality ice cream! read more

Uhhhh hello, chocolate paradise! I had dinner with friends at Ivy on Saturday and they warned me during our meal not to look at the dessert menu, because we were gonna wander down the block to Kilwin's afterward for something sweet. I was intrigued and excited that an entire store was dedicated to my dessert selection. When we got down there, we saw that the place was bumping, so I knew they were doing something right. My sweets obsessed husband's eyes widened 3x their normal size as we stepped inside to see displays of candies throughout the brightly lit store, and a wall of cases full of candy and ice cream. The store is beautifully setup and although small and crowded, is visually appealing. As I wandered, my hubs went right to the candy case and began ordering things. When I got to it, he'd already purchased $30 of treats! I added a caramel covered rice Krispy treat and some chocolate covered orange slices to his mix. We got our bag and stepped to the left to order ice cream. I really wanted Rocky Road - which they did not have - but settled on their s'mores flavor, which tasted EXACTLY like perfectly toasted marshmallows. It was so sweet I couldn't finish my cone, but I certainly enjoyed the part I had! The next day, we sampled our take home treats and they were all delicious and decadent. Though the prices are a bit high here, the quality certainly matches that! I can't wait to come back and try more ridiculously sweet and creative goodies. read more

People are very friendly. Customers can have a lot of choices. Great place for chocolate and ice cream and more!

This place has incredibly good ice cream. However, it is very expensive. Most items are $6 or more. With that being said, the ice cream is awesome. My personal favorite is the old fashioned chocolate soda. read more

The ice cream was fantastic. We had the fudge brownie flavor. The man handing out the fresh made mud fudge was very nice and personable. Everything was great except a snooty little girl at the ice cream counter named Paige. The people ahead of us had no sooner paid than she walked over and interrupted the guy serving us and in a sharp tone she ordered us to move down so they could serve other people. Sorry my husband, infant and I could not move fast enough for you little miss...definitely soured our whole experience. My husband wanted to complain to the owner she was so rude. read more

Loved this place on Mackinac Island and was excited to discover a Wheaton location. Had a scoop of the coconut ice cream with chocolate drizzle. Yum! Took home some chocolate fudge and imagined I was sitting on the porch of the Grand Hotel. If you've never tried Kilwins you are truly missing something special read more

So... Maybe there's ground up unicorn horns and flecks of kitten joy mixed in to this ice cream? Maybe they send it to the North Pole to be christened by Santa. I don't know... But 4 cones cost $20. And the glo-stick green of the pistachio leads me to question the actual ingredients. It was good, but then again it was ice cream. I can't imagine how horribly wrong things would have to go to make it bad. I can't go back, unless we win the lottery... At that point I'll also review the fudge. read more

The chocolate was okay but the service was not good. Staff ignored us at first and then rushed us once we said we were undecided. With such a big selection, you should give people time to decide instead of standing over them while they look at the options, also don't say in your most impatient manner "can I get you something (with "or not" implied)". Large selection but service will keep me away. read more

Been here several times now. Great ice cream! You have to try blueberry waffle, cake batter and strawberry. Great service to boot!

Going to this place took me back to the days of Tates ice cream (used to be down the street). It is a classic ice cream parlor feel that is perfect for enjoying a scoop and chat with friends while the kiddos run around. The location on the corner is great for sitting outside and enjoying those quaint little moments that we love Wheaton for!! The ice cream was creamy and delicious- I tried the cookies and cream and loved it-I was supposed to share it with a kiddo and luckily she didn't want much of it. Hehe. read more

I always judge an ice cream place by their coffee flavored ice cream. This one didn't disappoint. I also sampled their cake batter and it was really good. Not too sweet, just right. They also have fudge (yay) and other yummies. My cappuccino was lacking strong coffee flavor but had a good layer of foam and was still tasty. Overall this is a good ice cream place. My husband and I really have only been disappointed in one ice cream shop since moving to Illinois (looking at you Oberweis- chocolate chip cookie dough ice cream shouldn't taste like milk with chocolate and cookie dough chunks, ever thought of using some vanilla?). I'll have to try other things the next time we go. read more

I had a free sample of butter pecan ice cream and was impressed. My husband got a sample of the chocolate peanut butter ice cream and he enjoyed that too, but we wanted to share something. So we ordered a turtle sundae. My daughter ordered a chocolate shake. The charge was $16.50. Very steep in my opinion. My husband and I did not like the sundae at all. Vanilla ice cream was unusual and we didn't care for the whole peanuts on the top. It was served in a waffle bowl. We had a few bites and threw the rest out. My 11 old daughter had one sip of the chocolate shake and stated that she didn't like it. She said it was too milky and runny. So, we pretty much just threw our money away. I would not recommend this place. Pricey and not tasty. 1 pound of caramels was $28.00. Ouch. Who can afford this? read more

Kilwins is a great and perfect place to visit for some quality ice creams, chocolates, handmade sweets, and etc. Their place was really good and they have a lot of selection of flavored ice cream. This place is really cute and amazing shop full of delicious desserts and candies. Their best seller in ice cream is the chocolate peanut butter, it is so delicious, so sweet, a little bit salty, and very tasty. Worth a try and very yummy ice cream. They also have amazing assortment of chocolate, all of it are reasonably priced, and made to perfection. Really great sweets. The staff here is very attentive, friendly, nice, and all of them are extremely knowledgeable. They are willing to help and assist all of their customers all the time. They also know how to treat all of their customers so well. If you are looking for great spot to get some quality and amazing desserts and ice cream this place is waiting for you. You will absolutely love all of their produce. This place is exceptional! Thank you Kilwins! I will visit again when I have some free time. Thank you for wonderful experience! Keep it up! This place smells AMAZING when you enter, like pure heaven...or, chocolate. I've been a fan of this place forever as the only location I've visited was in Saugatuck, Michigan. I'm so happy that they are making their way to the suburbs of Chicago. Kilwins is different than Dairy Queen or Oberweis so you really can't compare. I'm a fan of their "mud" flavored ice cream, at this location it's "Wheaton Mud" in Saugatuck it's "Saugatuck Mud" don't be thrown off by the "mud" name, it's quite good. There are many different flavors of ice cream available, candy, fudge, chocolate covered popcorn and more! My first visit consisted of a cup of banana chocolate fudge something or other. Yummy!!!! The second 70 degree day of the year and the place was somewhat crowded...every table was taken but minimal wait in line. I think this place will be booming during the summer months! I cannot wait to return!!! Kilwins...thank you for settling so close, I will be back. read more

My fiancé and I stumbled upon this place while on a nice long walk from Glen Ellyn in search of ice cream. (I don't understand why downtown Glen Ellyn has zero ice cream shops and Wheaton has several great options! Why?!) In leu of driving, walking or biking, you could also get there on the Metra as this store is located across the street from the station. I cannot speak to their other confections, but the fudge they were whipping up in the window looked delicious! We were pleasantly surprised with the selection of ice cream. Since I'm new to the Midwest, I was unfamiliar with this shop/brand and their offerings. The owner told us that he ships in the ice cream from Michigan while the chocolate offerings are made in the store (typically in the large window adjacent to the sidewalk). Pros: they have a large selection of unique flavors and they give you free samples before you pick your flavor(s). (In my opinion, if you don't take a sample and order a flavor you haven't tried before, it's really your fault if you're unsatisfied with the selection.) I tried the cake batter, which tasted more like raw cake batter than anything I've tried from other stores like Cold Stone. I wasn't really a fan. I also tried the cookies & cream which was awesome -- very creamy and lots of Oreo-like cookie pieces. Mmm! I was also a fan of the espresso chip ice cream. There was almost too much chocolate in it, though. I wish they would offer a plain espresso/coffee flavor. (Or a cookies & cream in coffee ice cream! Please!) My fiancé ordered his double ice cream in a waffle bowl, which he said was delicious. I had my double in a regular bowl. I agree that the price is a little high (it was around $12 total), the serving sizes were large and made it worth it. We will definitely return! read more

Tasty ice cream, fudge (you can see them making that right in store). Even coffee tastes like coffee, not like charcoal powder mixed with water. read more

I buy ice cream from Kilwins every winter on vacation in Bluffton, SC, love it. Furthermore, they have my favorite flavor, Rum Raisin. None of the Wheaton ice cream stores (Grahams or Tates) have this flavor except for a week or two in December holidays. When a few months ago Kilwins opened a store in Wheaton, I was delighted. Rum Raisin is not one of the flavors permanently in the display counter, but the proprietor, who was very friendly and obliging, told me to just phone her an hour before coming, and she would thaw some for me! Now, that's real service! I've patronized them in Wheaton four times in the past three months, and always been treated extremely well. I hope they never leave. read more

I went to Kilwins with the kids I babysit and they absolutely love it there! they talk about it every time we drive past. Any time the topic of dessert or ice cream comes up they automatically ask if we can go to Kilwins! The quality of the ice cream and variety of food items make it a very unique and overall more appealing place to go downtown Wheaton. It definitely surpasses the competitors that are in close proximity. Since it is a new store, it is very impressive that it has had so much success, but they deserve it! The staff is friendly and helpful and they are always happy to see new customers.. The inside of the store is bright and clean and the ice cream and chocolate is amazing. Always fresh and always worth it. The location of the store is right in the middle of downtown so it is easy to find parking and family friendly. I love sitting outside of the store with the kids I babysit and they have tables and chairs for people to do so. It is a bit pricy, but you get what you pay for. Kilwins is always the go-to ice cream place at home! It is definitely the most popular of all the similar stores around. read more

This place seems like it has a decent selection but the prices are OUTRAGEOUS. A single scoop of ice-cream in a cup comes out to $5.35. I would NEVER pay that price when I could buy two ice-cream containers each containing 1.5 quarts. I'm sure the quality is fine but I'm perfectly content eating grocery store ice-cream if it means having ice-cream for a month rather than one day, all for the same price. read more

Grabbed a late evening ice cream stop to take home tonight. They were out of the quart of cookie dough and still took some from the ice cream in the front to fill the order without even asking.
