We visited this Kilwins with my daughter, who has celiac disease. We asked if staff could use a clean scoop and serve from a clean or unopened tub from the back to reduce gluten cross-contact. Staff told us they were not allowed to do that and could only serve from what was already in front. There was also a posted Kilwins "Handling Allergen Requests" notice stating that stores should not open a fresh tub, use separate scoops, or implement special handling procedures for allergy requests. I understand no ice cream shop can guarantee allergen-free food. However, families with celiac disease should know this location would not take even basic cross-contact precautions such as a clean scoop or clean/unopened tub. Because of that, my daughter could not safely order. Very disappointing experience. In Response to owner : Hi Ashley, I appreciate your response, but this actually highlights the concern. Saying that using a clean scoop or an unopened tub "would not make a product safer" is very troubling for families with celiac disease. Those steps may not eliminate all risk in a shared environment, but they absolutely can reduce one obvious source of gluten cross-contact: shared scoops and front tubs that may have been touched by cones, cookies, brownies, or other gluten-containing items. We were not asking Kilwins to guarantee that anything was gluten-free or allergen-free. We understand there is still risk in a shared environment. We were asking for basic cross-contact precautions so we could make an informed decision. What is disappointing is that Kilwins' policy appears to remove that choice entirely by refusing to take any special handling steps, even when a family clearly understands the remaining risk. For a child with celiac disease, being told that the store will not even use a clean scoop or unopened tub is not "keeping customers safe" -- it means the customer is effectively excluded from being able to participate. I appreciate that your intent may be to avoid misleading people, but the better approach would be to say: "We cannot guarantee no cross-contact, but we can use a clean scoop and unopened tub upon request." This place has lost quite a bit of its small-town heart and charm and the respect of those of us who might need to take even a bit of precaution before supporting a small business like this. Tonight, I had the pleasure of meeting Abbie. She was the most sweet and welcoming person. She was at a station making pecan brittle. She asked us if we wanted to try a sample and just like that I was hooked. I had to have a bag to take back with me to jersey. While exploring Tennessee's downtown shops I stumbled upon Kilwin's. This place is an amazing little room from heaven! The smell of fresh made chocolate and fresh sweet waffle cones being made was tickling my senses and drawing me in, almost like I was hypnotized! They had buy two get one free huge slices of fudge, delicious dipped candy apples covered in all types of goodness, and white, dark, & milk chocolate treats and truffles as far as that eyes could see. There were three wonderful young ladies working here, who took the time to talk to customers, answer their questions and even make suggestions and give samples of their rich and creamy ice cream! Adelynn was describing the contents and scooping the ice cream with such pride (almost as if she made it herself), Ellie was making perfect waffle cones to accent the ice cream, in between serving up delicious chocolate treats and Olivia was amazing as she helped us make some great choices. All of the girls have been working here for a few years and they all love the management and the smiles they receive when they are serving people in this chocolate haven. Fudge blended in with a nice creamy vanilla base with out over powering, but still providing a good flavor. In all honesty, there are a few gourmet ice cream parlor in the Nashville area that provide a better product. Since I was a chocolate shop also, I tried a few small pieces and found them better than average, but not great. Sweet temptations of deliciousness! Every time we stop in here we walk out with more sweets than we really need, but we always love them all. This time we stopped in for some chocolate-covered strawberries for my wife for Valentine's Day. I couldn't resist picking up some fudge while we were there. In the past I've enjoyed their peanut butter cups and some of the other candies. The candied apples always look amazing but so far we haven't tried those. I like the ice cream here. My kids did too. They have fresh fudge and they also make coffee. They have a wall table with a few high top chairs inside and a couple of tables outside. I would definitely put a small table inside as they do have a little bit of space so it would be more comfortable to eat the ice cream, specially with kids. Unbelievably good chocolate confections, and ice cream to boot! I visited with my daughter today because she just had to get a Carmel, chocolate coated apple with salt on it. That procured, she asked the nice lady to cut it for her because she knew that I'd eventually ask for a taste. I did just that, and boy, was it ever good! Having it cut is definitely the way to go. It turns a potential gooey mess into something a fine lady and gentleman could manage. Not suggesting that I'm in any way a gentleman, but having it cut keeps chocolate off the nose. This is a really fantastic sweets shop that offers a great variety of dessert treats. They have a great selection of some quite flavorful ice creams with a marvelous texture. They also have quite an impressive array of fudge flavor options to choose from. They have quite an above average assortment of both commercial and their house made candies, chocolates and other creations on display. The delightful display cases wind around to lead you throughout the store in an ever growing lust for the goodies on offer along with tempting you with free samples of many of their delicious offerings. My last visit was during a cold snap and even the chilly weather couldn't keep large numbers of customers from waiting in line for the delicious items available here. If you grew up in Tennessee, you probably made a number of pilgrimages to Gatlinburg where the family ate their quota of fudge, taffy, and other sweets. But no longer will we have to drive four hours for the thrill of the old style sugary outlet. Kilwin's has it all; caramel apples, ice cream, salt-water taffy, numerous flavors of fudge, and pretty much chocolate-covered everything. The maple walnut fudge is soft and melts in your mouth. I LOVE fudge, but I hate the fact that it gets too rich and sugary after several bites. Not Kilwin's fudge, striking the perfect balance between being richly flavorful and humbly tame, not overwhelmingly sweet. Rather than peddling some mediocre dairy product from a big corporation, they make their own ice cream. And it's REALLY good. The mint chocolate chip should be renamed mint chocolate CHUNK! Those are the biggest chunks of chocolate I've ever discovered in my favorite flavor of ice cream. But the caramel flavor was out of this world! So creamy, so smooth, so buttery. Noel and I went to the Franklin Theater to enjoy holiday viewing of "HOME ALONE" and when we came out of the theater it was dark and all the pretty holiday lights were all lit up. It gave you the urge to sing Christmas Songs and twirl...only think missing was snow..it would have been postcard beautiful with the snowflakes. We stopped into the Kilwin's Candy store...and OMG...a Fat Girl's Heaven.. the girl behind the counter said..."HELLO would you like to try some fudge?"....OMG..would I !!!!
