We visited this Kilwins with my daughter, who has celiac disease. We asked if staff could use a clean scoop and serve from a clean or unopened tub from the back to reduce gluten cross-contact. Staff told us they were not allowed to do that and could only serve from what was already in front. There was also a posted Kilwins "Handling Allergen Requests" notice stating that stores should not open a fresh tub, use separate scoops, or implement special handling procedures for allergy requests. I understand no ice cream shop can guarantee allergen-free food. However, families with celiac disease should know this location would not take even basic cross-contact precautions such as a clean scoop or clean/unopened tub. Because of that, my daughter could not safely order. Very disappointing experience. In Response to owner : Hi Ashley, I appreciate your response, but this actually highlights the concern. Saying that using a clean scoop or an unopened tub "would not make a product safer" is very troubling for families with celiac disease. Those steps may not eliminate all risk in a shared environment, but they absolutely can reduce one obvious source of gluten cross-contact: shared scoops and front tubs that may have been touched by cones, cookies, brownies, or other gluten-containing items. We were not asking Kilwins to guarantee that anything was gluten-free or allergen-free. We understand there is still risk in a shared environment. We were asking for basic cross-contact precautions so we could make an informed decision. What is disappointing is that Kilwins' policy appears to remove that choice entirely by refusing to take any special handling steps, even when a family clearly understands the remaining risk. For a child with celiac disease, being told that the store will not even use a clean scoop or unopened tub is not "keeping customers safe" -- it means the customer is effectively excluded from being able to participate. I appreciate that your intent may be to avoid misleading people, but the better approach would be to say: "We cannot guarantee no cross-contact, but we can use a clean scoop and unopened tub upon request." Families with celiac disease deserve accurate information and reasonable precautions, not a blanket refusal. read more

Understanding ADA guidelines is not necessarily something that the teen staff who were operating this establishment would know, but being told to basically deny even the opportunity to mitigate some risk of cross contamination for anyone requesting it is something that the management and owner should be better versed in. This place has lost quite a bit of its small-town heart and charm and the respect of those of us who might need to take even a bit of precaution before supporting a small business like this. Truly disappointing and disheartening to know that the owner would state to deny any considerations of an accommodation for those dealing with an autoimmune disease. read more

Food It's the vast amount of options for me. From many ice cream flavors to candy apples, chocolates and much more. Tried a few ice cream flavors and they all tasted incredible. Service Every employee we interacted with was nice and extremely helpful. They were able to suggest flavors based on flavors I've liked in the past. Ambiance There are different lines based on what you are wanting to buy. Couple of tables to sit at outside. read more

If you don't tip, you'll get the look. I went in today to buy a bag of caramel corn. I reached into the bin, grabbed a bag and paid for it. First question is....tip. I did not tip because nothing outside of doing their job needed to be acknowledged. I got the look. The other day it was the stink eye. I'm already paying an exorbitant fee for some popcorn. Why should I tip for that level of service? Their products are great but social guilt tripping to get a tip...? read more

I love the caramel chocolate. I didn't get anything else so I can't attest to a lot of things. But. The chocolate! Yes please!

While exploring Tennessee's downtown shops I stumbled upon Kilwin's. This place is an amazing little room from heaven! The smell of fresh made chocolate and fresh sweet waffle cones being made was tickling my senses and drawing me in, almost like I was hypnotized! They had buy two get one free huge slices of fudge, delicious dipped candy apples covered in all types of goodness, and white, dark, & milk chocolate treats and truffles as far as that eyes could see. There were three wonderful young ladies working here, who took the time to talk to customers, answer their questions and even make suggestions and give samples of their rich and creamy ice cream! Adelynn was describing the contents and scooping the ice cream with such pride (almost as if she made it herself), Ellie was making perfect waffle cones to accent the ice cream, in between serving up delicious chocolate treats and Olivia was amazing as she helped us make some great choices. All of the girls have been working here for a few years and they all love the management and the smiles they receive when they are serving people in this chocolate haven. Most of Kilwin's chocolate items are made and hand dipped in house and some are delivered fresh daily. If you're in the Franklin Tennessee area Kilwins is a must do, you'll love it! read more

Food - Very Good; Service - Good; Ambiance - Typical ice cream parlor. Read on. After a nice full meal at a close by restaurant, I had my heart set on ice cream. However, I wandered into the wrong shop - this one - by ignorance. I had scoped out another sweet shop and thought that was were I was headed. Anyway, I did not realize my error until after getting home. Fudge was being made on marble slabs, the way it should be, so I went for the Mackinac Island Fudge Twirl. Fudge blended in with a nice creamy vanilla base with out over powering, but still providing a good flavor. In all honesty, there are a few gourmet ice cream parlor in the Nashville area that provide a better product. Since I was a chocolate shop also, I tried a few small pieces and found them better than average, but not great. Cleanliness is critical for any food service facility and the sparkling white decor highlighted what a good job they did. Along one wall was a shelf table with about 6 stools and two tables with chairs were outside for those wanting their treats al fresco. Several employees were behind the counter scooping ice cream and ringing up orders. They were all very polite and accommodating. Since I don't get to Franklin often, I'll try the other sweet shop. It is not because I did not like this place. I just want to see what else if available. read more

Sweet temptations of deliciousness! Every time we stop in here we walk out with more sweets than we really need, but we always love them all. This time we stopped in for some chocolate-covered strawberries for my wife for Valentine's Day. I couldn't resist picking up some fudge while we were there. In the past I've enjoyed their peanut butter cups and some of the other candies. The candied apples always look amazing but so far we haven't tried those. We have always been greeted by several of the friendly staff as soon as we walk in, and we are immediately overwhelmed by the very large selection of sweets to choose from, all of which look beautiful. And everything we've ever had here has been excellent. So, when you want to give in to your sweet tooth, this is the place to do it, conveniently on Main Street in the heart of downtown Franklin! read more

I like the ice cream here. My kids did too. They have fresh fudge and they also make coffee. They have a wall table with a few high top chairs inside and a couple of tables outside. I would definitely put a small table inside as they do have a little bit of space so it would be more comfortable to eat the ice cream, specially with kids. The service was friendly and I love they do give you samples if you ask. Take that COVID... I definitely will come back here to get more ice cream. They also have candies, caramel popcorn and goodies in packages. Come check them out definitely read more

Unbelievably good chocolate confections, and ice cream to boot! I visited with my daughter today because she just had to get a Carmel, chocolate coated apple with salt on it. That procured, she asked the nice lady to cut it for her because she knew that I'd eventually ask for a taste. I did just that, and boy, was it ever good! Having it cut is definitely the way to go. It turns a potential gooey mess into something a fine lady and gentleman could manage. Not suggesting that I'm in any way a gentleman, but having it cut keeps chocolate off the nose. I only wish that I could keep it off my shirt! You can do no wrong by entering Franklin's version of Wonka's factory. Who knows, you may even see an Oompa Loompa. A great stop on the main street of Franklin to get your sweet fix! Lots of options for ice cream, fudge, apples, candy, and other sweet offerings. I tried their buckeyes and wish I had bought more! Perfectly balanced peanut butter and chocolate goodness. I also enjoyed their version of moose tracks ice cream (they had a cute name but I can't remember it) to get my PB+choco fix in ice cream form. This is a really fantastic sweets shop that offers a great variety of dessert treats. They have a great selection of some quite flavorful ice creams with a marvelous texture. They also have quite an impressive array of fudge flavor options to choose from. They have quite an above average assortment of both commercial and their house made candies, chocolates and other creations on display. The delightful display cases wind around to lead you throughout the store in an ever growing lust for the goodies on offer along with tempting you with free samples of many of their delicious offerings. My last visit was during a cold snap and even the chilly weather couldn't keep large numbers of customers from waiting in line for the delicious items available here. While in Franklin we were looking for ice cream and decided to stop at Kilwin's. I had turtle cheesecake which was quite good. I did feel that it was a bit overpriced at $6.25 for a single scoop. Kilwins is always a favorite when you need a sugar kick! The one problem is that there prices are just so high for example $8 for two scoops in a waffle cone, for two people thats $16 for some ice cream! Dont get me wrong, Kilwins has fantastic treats and ice cream but just be ready to spend a little extra for the quality. Also in this specific Kilwins it can get extremely packed during lunch/dinner hours on the weekend but that is to be expected. Overall, if your okay with the pricing Kilwins will give your sweet tooth a joy ride read more

Stopped by today. Walked in with my family. Dark haired girl behind the counter said, "how are you?" I said, "great, how are y--"... she cut me off and said rudely "just so you know we are trying to close." Lol, okay. We had seen the "closing early" sign on the door but didn't realize it was after five. There were plenty of people still in there and your door was still unlocked. MY BAD. I understand businesses need to close sometimes early or just close in general. But when you have employees that cannot communicate in a nice way to potential customers-- that's unfortunate. Especially in this climate, you probably don't want to be rude to people when so many small businesses are hurting. Just a thought. My family and I are locals. We aren't tourists. We would have been potential reoccurring customers. Not anymore. Again, this review is on the "service"-- not the product. Your ice cream could be great, who knows? read more

The traditional Gatlinburg sweet shop comes to Franklin! If you grew up in Tennessee, you probably made a number of pilgrimages to Gatlinburg where the family ate their quota of fudge, taffy, and other sweets. But no longer will we have to drive four hours for the thrill of the old style sugary outlet. Kilwin's has it all; caramel apples, ice cream, salt-water taffy, numerous flavors of fudge, and pretty much chocolate-covered everything. The maple walnut fudge is soft and melts in your mouth. I LOVE fudge, but I hate the fact that it gets too rich and sugary after several bites. Not Kilwin's fudge, striking the perfect balance between being richly flavorful and humbly tame, not overwhelmingly sweet. Rather than peddling some mediocre dairy product from a big corporation, they make their own ice cream. And it's REALLY good. The mint chocolate chip should be renamed mint chocolate CHUNK! Those are the biggest chunks of chocolate I've ever discovered in my favorite flavor of ice cream. But the caramel flavor was out of this world! So creamy, so smooth, so buttery. I'll certainly be back. read more

Ice cream! We want ice cream! And fudge! And chocolate covered popcorn! And truffles! And candies! Yes, yes and more yes! Walking in to Kilwin's, you will be overwhelmed by the smell of the sugar being cooked and baked and rolled and frozen. It's all the desserts going on here. Ever dream of being the proverbial "kid in a candy store?" Well, dream no more....just amble on over to Kilwin's on Main Street in historic Franklin and 'live' your dream! Unless you are a candy cynic, you will be blown away by the variety of sweet treats, goodies, gummies, and downright decadent desserts available. And before you even get your ten toes inside the door, you'll be tempted to a sample some of their oh-so-creamy-dreamy fudge. From double-dark chocolate to toasted coconut to my wife's all-time favorite, old fashioned Marvelous Maple Walnut. It's creamy perfection that perfectly pleases the palate as it melts in your mouth. Down the aisle a bit you'll meet mounds of crunchy caramel corn and ... oh, my goodness, my mouth is watering like a bubbling brook as I write this. Candied apples, dipped and rolled in an assortment of sweet and crunchy "add-ons" stand at attention, sticks straight as they compete for your attention..."Pick me. Pick me," they seem to say. Then, vying for your attention (and personally having worked in a boutique, hand-made chocolate company many, many years ago, they succeed in getting mine) a marvelous assortment of Chocolates, Caramels, Clusters, Creams, and Brittles call out as loudly as any sweet in the shop. A Star Trek Episode many years ago was titled, "The Trouble with Tribbles." Well, at Kilwins, my trouble is with Truffles...I simply cannot make up my mind which ones I want to take home. And, I'm not even sure that they would make it as far as the car...they're that tempting, tantalizing, delightful, and oh-so-delicious. So, be that kid in the candy store and dream on... Better yet, follow your dream with a marvelous mixture of candy creations from Kilwin's on Franklin's Main Street. read more
