We just enjoyed a two night stay at Killens Pond SP Campground. We had Site D-1, which is in one of the improved loops (water and electric hookups). We are tent campers, and there were several other folks in tents on Loop D, but also a number of RVs. There is a separate tents only loop, Loop G, but it is farther from the bathrooms (latrines are by the Loop G parking lot) and you have to carry your gear in (They do have some wheelbarrow style carts there). So, here are the pros and cons: Lovely park with a path all around the 55 acre lake. Loop D has a boat dock for kayak and canoe access. The bathrooms were really kept clean by the Camp Hosts. (I can't remember ever seeing them cleaning campground bathrooms several times each day). Sites are level and really nicely shaded. The camp store & hosts sell firewood ($6 per bundle) and ice for $3 per bag. Our camp host, Tom, delivered the firewood to us in his golf cart. Nice family camping--quiet hours were observed. Cons: Not too many. Site D-1 backs up to a couple of sites on E loop so we were kind of surrounded. Flies--our citronella candle and bug spray were no match for the numbers of flies (not biting types, but annoying at the table). People next door to us put a screen house over their picnic table. We did not rent canoes or kayaks and we did not visit the nature center or water park.

    Awesome water park!

One of the nicest state parks I've visited. The trails are awesome. The place was clean. Easy camping with being hardwood cover. A massive variety of trees on the property. Great water park with friendly staff & super affordable. History too. Fantastic place.

Overall, Killens Pond State Park has a very nice camping area. I stayed here just one night prior to Memorial Day weekend. It was peaceful and not too crowded. I have a 35' travel trailer and was able to fit in my spot on the B ring just fine, but there wasn't much room to spare. The campsite was nice and clean. It wasn't quite level, but nothing terrible. There seems to be a lot to do. Several activities are posted. There are well-marked hiking trails around the pond/lake. There is also another part of the park for picnics and day activities. The bathhouse could use a little TLC, but that's about the only "bad" thing about this park. I'd definitely recommend Killens Pond State Park. It's a very nice break from the city!

Spent a few days in cabin #9. Was fairly clean and provides you with a fridge, freezer, stove, and plenty of cabinet space. You have your own private fire pit out front and a closed in porch. Located right next to one of the hiking trails. Great location.

The park is over crowded, and you almost feel like your just standing side by side, once it turns noon.

It's a nice rural park not far from town. Makes you feel like you are away from it all. Relaxing and enjoyable.

Been here a week in late April. Cool and windy but a great place. Especially love the woodpeckers and the pond trail.

They have a smaller area reserved for only smaller children, which is nice when it's crowded with older kids and they have no regard for your toddler. The swings could use an update and the slides could use a deep clean, but everything was pretty solid. The castle has bricks around it with names of those who contributed toward or helped build it. It's neat to see some familiar names! I recommend this park and playground for those who have kids needing to get rid of energy or those who need to walk and clear their head.

When I saw that Brecknock Park had a wooden playground, I figured I had to check it out. The park is absolutely beautiful. There's lots of open space for throwing around a frisbee, jogging, picnicking, playing soccer - you name it! There's a small garden area to walk through that has the plants and trees labeled (always nice to get in a little outdoor education). The wooden playground was everything I'd hoped for - very well-maintained, lots of different jungle gym options, and I got in my obligatory swing set time on a nice, sturdy swing set. Whether you live in the area or are just passing through, I'd definitely recommend spending some time at this park. Wish I could have enjoyed it longer! I'll absolutely plan on stopping by again next time I'm visiting that area.

A paved health trail, multiple playgrounds, and a little lending library (books ranging from the Magic Treehouse to Bill Bryson and MFK Fisher) make this a family-friendly spot. The amphitheater view of Watts Creek was a great spot to recharge watching fish jump, hear frogs, and spy a lizard or two creeping the trees. Denton has groceries and other amenities within driving or biking distance, and The Martinak Boat and interpretive signs were neat. Alas, the nature center by the pavilion was closed during the week, and Martinak is rehabbing trails and the boat launch--no sunset views from the Point Trail at present. The park is at least up front about these two bummer's and hopefully work will be complete soon. We still has an excellent camping experience despite the construction. Use the dump station at nearby Tuckahoe State Park as the Martinak dump station's closed. Bring a kite to fly in that nice field by the park entrance, and enjoy bird watching. Woodpeckers, song birds, river raptors, even a blue bird appeared in our short stay.

The visitor center has a small exhibit and an introductory film which is nice but the guide prefaces by saying it "focuses too much on John Dickinson" (?) The exhibit focuses more on the family and the enslaved/servants who lived there, which really rounded out the property, but we did come here because we wanted to learn more about John Dickinson. No gift shop, which was disappointing. The tour itself was very informative, and there was a big crowd visiting when I did. Again, the tour seemed to want to downplay Dickinson and his role in the American Revolution. Likely because he thought the colonies weren't prepared to go to war, he abstained from voting for independence, he is less remembered than other Founding Fathers, but I came to learn about him, and the guide wasn't all that interested in talking about him and what he did accomplish. Still, the furnishings were nice, and we got to learn about Dickinson's father, his wife and family, and his brother who all lived there with a focus on the lesser-known residents. I think that could have all been balanced better. The view of the river is lovely, and there are some out buildings and a garden to stroll through. It's a nice outdoor site, and for free, it's still a good site to visit to see history being preserved.

The guide was nice and interesting. That is saying a lot, because I can get bored very easily. She spent an adequate amount of time in each room. Before we took the tour, we had to see a movie, that was about 15 minutes long, mostly about history. We were the only people there, and I got up during the movie and looked at the other exhibits in the room. I would say travel here if you like history or old houses/furniture.
