This park is nothing grand to see. In fact, I have seen the park with derelicts and with children. I don't think I'd want my kid here if there are folks hanging out of the car and sleeping (like I saw earlier today). I can not say that I found any swing sets or anything for the kids to play with anyway. Dover could really stand to clean up the trees and shrubberies in this park. There are areas that are picturesque (as shown). As stated, this is an ok park, but there are FAR better parks that represent the City of Dover better than this park. It has a purpose....I am assuming Fishing :)

It's a smaller State park and slightly confusing with the direction's but the staff was helpful just get a map. We camped in a "walk back" section of E. Very spacious sites with the bathroom/shower reasonably close. Parking was "ok"..... but they fill up and then you have to use overflow. The bathrooms/showers were clean BUT I guess I'm used to sites that spray repellent because nature is boss. We drove through the comfort sites of D and they were too tight for my liking. They have yurts and cabins but for me a tad too close. They do have an Island camp site Loved it!!!!! That's a must do. It's 2 sites across a short walking bridge with water view and access. I would definitely go back.

One thing I don't understand is why the Park Maintenance people don't cut the Wisteria growth on the trees? Some trees have vines over two inches in diameter. The fields are always taken, though, by leagues. It would be nice if there was a track here and an outdoor basketball court. There's a recreation center in this area that is free to residents of Dover, and $3 for non-residents. They have schedules online on when they have open gym for basketball and volleyball for youth and adult. It's never packed and the front desk receptionists won't let you deviate out of their schedule even if the gym is ghost empty. Definitely should allow for more flexibility because the schedules really suck.

We unfortunately arrived after the visitor center closed but called before it closed to ask for the passport stamp to be on a piece of paper and left outside for us and they DID!!! Also Included was a brochure with two stickers of the local wildlife. The horseshoe crab is the official marine animal of Delaware and plays an important role in Delaware Bay ecosystem. Also a sticker of a red knot. It's one of the longest annual migrating birds on Earth traveling up to 9,300 miles and during their spring migration most of them can be found in the Delaware Bay region. It was nice to enjoy the auto tour. We did hike up to one of the observation decks for a video and view but it started to rain so we took advantage of the paved auto tour. Bombay Hook National Wildlife Refuge protects one of the largest remaining expanses of tidal salt marsh in the mid-Atlantic region. The refuge, located along the coast of Delaware bay, is mostly marsh, but also includes freshwater impoundment and upland habitats that are managed for migratory birds and other wildlife. Established in 1937 as a link in the chain of refuges extending from Canada to the Gulf of Mexico. It is primarily a refuge and breeding ground for migrating birds and other wildlife. The value and importance of Bombay Hook for migratory bird protection and conservation has increased through the years, primarily due to the management of the refuge and the loss of high quality habitat along the Atlantic Flyway.  Very happy we came today. First, it's dog-friendly which is a huge plus (be sure your dog is leashed at all times). Second, this is a lovely trail for hiking a couple miles, but it's not covered by trees, so perhaps it's better for a cloudy day. Third, you'll get a view of sand dunes, wetlands, and a pond (if you're lucky, a heron will come into view). This is a delightful trail for a relaxing walk - and a haven for joggers, dog walkers, and photographers. I think the Gordons Pond Trail is one of the crown jewels in Cape Henlopen State Park.

There are lots of bike paths, hiking paths and a large camping area that looks very well kept. There is also lots of wildlife, both driving around in the park or in the ocean. I have heard that the traffic can be horrible sometimes but I tend to visit early in the morning or later in the evening. This is a beautiful place to visit and I would highly recommend, especially for sunrise and sunset.

That is the one draw for nice sunny days. That said, this place is freshly redone, looks beautiful, and has made excellent use of its acreage, to get a variety of recreational options into every corner of the space! Port-a-potty restrooms off the parking lot. Playground has a SUPER HIGH slide that is pretty friggin exciting. Plenty of play structures, swings (one all-abilities swing), and rubber turf. Pavilion has a number of picnic tables and trash cans. Adjacent green lawn space can be used for picnicking or chilling. Not enough room to fly a kite, but the beaches are so close, they're much better for that anyway. Sport courts (tennis, basketball, pickle ball) are gorgeously surfaced, and well-netted/-fenced. Dog park is all fenced, bag station, benches, and rules clearly posted. Great find in Cape May County!!!
