Love Broadkill Beach!!!…read more This is a Delaware Bay beach, between Slaughter Beach and Lewes Beach. It's my Bizarro World beach from North Cape May and Villas, across the bay. Unlike Jersey, I saw evidence of campfires on this beach, as well as 2 cars, and other ATV mule-type vehicles. While a fire on the beach at night seems SOOO fun, I respect why this is not permitted in NJ, and was a little concerned about the legality of it in DE. Cars on the beach are just not cool. It can severely damage the ecosystem and/or dunes, not to mention the hundreds of crab burrows I saw in the sand. And of course these idiots got their car stuck, and spent an hour pushing it out of the sand. Leave your car on the road. All that aside, Broadkill Beach is a very cool beach, in a small one-road community near Milton, DE. The beach itself is beautiful, with tranquil bay waters. I did not see any jellyfish, thank goodness, nor shark fishermen, like I do in Cape May County. This made me feel more safe with my toddler swimming. No lifeguards, but that means no beach tags. Just beware the current, because it's strong. You can get some medium waves, but not huge. Nice long stretch to walk. Many people had dogs with them. Most dogs were leashed, which was so appreciated, and showed their respect for the environment, and welfare of others. There is free public parking just off the road leading to the beach. Main beach entrance is right there. General store is right across from parking, with all kinds of supplies. This place has such a relaxed, safe, fun, beachy vibe!

In the winter months, the beach is dog-friendly and offers free parking. The shallow and calm water on the bayside is safe for young kids (ages 2-8 years). Easy to get to beach. Shallow calm water. There are many families and children (mid August 2024) and it was peaceful and chill. Clean gendered public toilets and outdoor shower if you need. Friendly life guards on duty. Lifeguard Trent was just wonderful to chat with and watch him help others with kindness and care. The Cape May ferry terminal is near and the ferry comes and goes. The Lion's club hosts a stand that rents umbrellas, rafts and other beach gear. They also sell hotdogs, pizza, icees and snacks. I had strawberry-lemon which was refreshingly perfect. Beyond-the-call-of-duty Lifeguard update! These pushy women sat beneath the lifeguard chair and after asking where the rental shack is about 10 times and being told--they said they couldn't walk there (it's not far) to get an umbrella. They whined and whined. Trent took the umbrella down from the lifeguard chair and set it up for them to use!!! So so generous of you Trent! I highly recommend this beach if you're looking for ease. Parking likely easier earlier in the day. I beached til evening!

This beach is decidedly sleepier than Ocean City, Sea Isle, and many non-LBI beaches, and most of its charm is from its inherent "coziness." The lifeguards were very kind and vigilant, making sure that the no-swimming zones were properly demarcated and that we could enjoy the offings of the beach. Free street parking and some mini golf and ice cream nearby. What more can I say? :)

Something about the sprocket was bent. Ugh! Instead, I sprayed some sunblock on my arms neck and face, put on a hat, and took a walk. The beach is stunning. Flat, warm, sunny and not overly crowded for a July weekend. While the beach is not step free, they're trying hard to make it as accessible as possible with mats and ramps that can support a wheelchair. That's awesome. I did see a bunch of offroaders. Apparently, you can get a permit to bring your 4WD onto the beach. Pretty darned awesome, that is! What are those huge concrete structures? They're WWII-era bunkers! Yes, these huge installations were built to counter the fear of German U-boats invading Philadelphia via the Delaware River. A series of tunnels connects the bunkers but those aren't open to visitors. I had a great visit and managed to not get any burn! [Review 18196 overall - 113 in Delaware - 1718 of 2022.]

It's neat to see some familiar names! I recommend this park and playground for those who have kids needing to get rid of energy or those who need to walk and clear their head.

When I saw that Brecknock Park had a wooden playground, I figured I had to check it out. The park is absolutely beautiful. There's lots of open space for throwing around a frisbee, jogging, picnicking, playing soccer - you name it! There's a small garden area to walk through that has the plants and trees labeled (always nice to get in a little outdoor education). The wooden playground was everything I'd hoped for - very well-maintained, lots of different jungle gym options, and I got in my obligatory swing set time on a nice, sturdy swing set. Whether you live in the area or are just passing through, I'd definitely recommend spending some time at this park. Wish I could have enjoyed it longer! I'll absolutely plan on stopping by again next time I'm visiting that area.

Maybe 7-9 spots I believe. If you go May-June you will see horseshoe crabs. There's a sign to show you how to turn them over so they don't die on the land if they're upside down. When we arrived, I was juggling a bunch of stuff and heard someone yelling from a house-like structure that we needed to pay. It was a little awkward since payment isn't collected near the entrance, but she apologized for shouting and explained they try to catch guests right away. Totally understood--and I had every intention to pay once I set our things down! The kids had a blast in the water and loved the volleyball net. We weren't thrilled about the ducks everywhere, but other families seemed to enjoy them. The snack shack had lunch options and snacks at reasonable prices. Just a heads-up: it's cash only for both admission and food. All in all, a great day outdoors with plenty of space and friendly vibes!

THE Best Beach in Delaware!!!!…read more Bethany Beach has been our family vacation spot for the past 32 years... and it has grown, developed, and maintained its family friendly vibe for all of those years!! Tucked on the coastal side of Route 1, the entire town of Bethany is an oasis of vacation. With only the Sea Colony condos as a building over three stories tall, Bethany is not your typical overrun East Coast beach, but maintains a feeling of small town family friendly atmosphere that keeps vacation calm and relaxing. With private gated communities to the North, quaint small town in the middle, and Sea Colony to the South, Bethany Beach has amazing options for every family!! The main street from Route 1 greets you with the totem pole and extends directly through shops, dining, and entertainment directly to the Boardwalk. Without many cheap hotels and mostly family house rentals, you see full families with generations enjoying vacation together.

Of the two, Bethany has a slower and calmer vibe than Rehoboth. Family friend and beautiful, clean beachfront just like Rehoboth. They had umbrella rentals where they handle placing it wherever you want it (they don't allow beach tents just like Rehoboth). Unlike Rehoboth they took electronic payment. The boardwalk was nice with a few shops (there are more shops along the main street). I could potentially see a parking issue if there was a large influx of people so I would recommend getting there early during peak season. So if you are looking for family friendly, relaxing, coastal town expereince this is the place.
