Cape May Beach is clean, beautiful, and well maintained. I spent time relaxing, enjoying the ocean, and taking in the peaceful atmosphere. Walked after eating brunch, sat on a bench and enjoyed. The beach is spacious, the water was beautiful, and it's easy to see why so many people return year after year. Whether you're looking to relax, swim, or simply enjoy the scenery, it's a wonderful place to spend the day. Side note: Noticed chair rentals, street parking is metered. Excellent beach, one of best in New Jersey. Never disappointed when I vacation here, can hang out on this beach all day. Great crowd, usually a bit older and not a lot of foolishness going on here. Beach is always clean and water is great. For a one day pass it's $10 but well worth it. All you need is sun and good weather and you have a great day. There is good spots to fish here as well. This past July I got to experience Cape May for the very first time w group of friends for a week long vaca. The beach is absolute heaven though I will say because we stayed at the nearby Ohana Beach Resort we already had the day tags so did not have to deal with any of the purchasing. I love that those of us at the nearby hotels would set up the umbrellas early in the AM & lay claim to the spots closest to the water. This beach is large & though it def looks crowded it never felt it. There were singles, couples, families, lil babies, teenagers - you name it -- I saw it. The first thing to know about Cape May Beaches is that you are required to purchase a beach tag (if you're older than 12 years old). The beach tags are available for purchase by the entrance to the beach. A daily pass was $10 per person. This beach also has a paved path over the sand so that when you walk out without getting sand stuck to your feet. They also have a little shower station for both your feet and your body. It was surprisingly quiet when I went in July There is a lifeguard there. I also saw dolphins swimming close by which was very cool. They also have beach, tents, umbrellas, and canopies that are available to rent. They do not permit alcohol on the beach although I did see some people drinking. The only downside was I could not find a public restroom nearby. It was quite a walk to find one. Also, you do have to pay for parking by the beach. The meters are in effect from 10 AM to 10 PM. read more

CAPE MAY: the town has a lot of beach areas and the city beaches and promenade/boardwalk covers the 2.5 miles parallel to Beach Avenue. Information is a bit confusing because when we were there, the signage says dogs are allowed from 9/15-5/15. But, their website says "Dogs are permitted on Cape May City beaches only during the months of November, December, January, February and March." Use caution, keep your pup on a leash, and make sure you pick up after them. read more

How can you not write a beach up as five? No matter what you like or dislike about it it's still a BEACH. Cape May beach is small thus manageable and walkable. One of the good things about CM beach is being able to leave the beach to go and get a meal or meet up with friends for a drink and then you could just head back to your chair and finish your day. There is one thing that everyone is currently talking about - they are considering not allowing hotels to purchase yearly beach tags That the hotels handover to guests at checkin. They feel like they are losing revenue by not making every individual buy a tag. It all depends on what you're into but Cape May beach is hands down the best sandbar in New Jersey... if... what you want is a pristine, well manicured waters edge without the soccer riot histrionics and floating medical waste of the northern shoreline. Sure, it'll cost you a few bucks to get on but the fee is money well spent brother. This is definitely not the place that Springsteen sang about when he was chasing the factory girls under the boardwalk in Asbury Park hoping they'd unsnap their jeans. Put your corn dog away Boss and chill. Maybe in the evening you can roll your '69 Chevy into town for dinner at an endless variety of excellent restaurants that don't rely on the deep fryer for inspiration. Basically, you have to go to the southern tip of NJ to find a tranquil shoreline idyll not drowning in neon, hair gel and Axe Body Wash. It's so worth it, sorry Bruce. Love the easy access to get to this beach from La Mer- where hubby and I were staying during a long weekend. But if you're staying at one of the other Hotels or Inns along Beach Ave, there are several entrances you can use. Depending on either your long stay or just a day at the beach, purchasing Beach Tags are required to enter. Paddle boards are welcome, your own cooler, as well as music- just be considerate though- you don't want to start blasting your tunes- especially in this quieter section closer to La Mer Hotel. Hubby's family had direct access to Cabana service as well as food during our stay. Entrance is wheelchair-accessible and has convenient high and low freestanding shower heads to rinse yourself off or your feet. Keep your eyes open, we came across more than a dozen Dolphins and were a delight to watch. Wouldn't mind returning- this beach is extremely clean and sand is silky fine. read more

We visited a number of different boardwalks and beaches while touring the New Jersey coast, and Cape May Beach was our favorite! First, while it can get a tiny bit crowded (we went during peak season!), we were always able to find decently priced parking without too much trouble. The first time we visited, we stayed in a church parking lot by donating $10 (they provided envelopes and a drop box and everything!) for all day parking. The second time, we found a street metered parking spot and ending up paying ~$5 for 3 hours. So you can find a variety of parking options here depending on how long you're planning on staying. Both parking spots we found were easily within walking distance of the beach. Importantly, there are chair / umbrella rental stands with reasonable prices all over Cape May Beach, so you don't have to worry about buying your own beach gear if you're just an infrequent visitor like us :) They set everything up for you! Perhaps most importantly, while the beach wasn't desolate, it was always easy to find a nice spot with an excellent view of the ocean. The sand was pristine and everything felt really clean. We did have to buy beach passes but they were affordable and the quality of the beach made them well worth the purchase. Overall, we are planning on coming back here, and we would recommend Cape May Beach to our friends and anyone looking to have an excellent, relaxing beach experience :) read more

Nice quiet beach on an off-season Saturday. Lots of wooden "stakes" in the water in groups of 6-8 (I assume as markers). Beach was clean and sand was soft-ish (for an East Coast Beach) sans the little sticks poking out of the sand and shells/rocks. They've got cleaning stations, with clean bathrooms and hose-off areas. Cape May Beach is absolutely gorgeous (like your mother was last night) and a very special place to me. Cape May just wasn't what we expected. Perhaps its because I live and grew up in Hawaii with our beaches and this is all folks in this area have, but I thought this place was very one dimensional and didn't have any warmth or hospitality to it. Additionally, what is this concept of paying to access the beach? That's just wrong, a beach is a public asset everyone should enjoy! My fiancé's sisters heard from her friends that this was a great place to go, even better than Newport, for a weekend getaway, so we decided to take his mother here for her birthday weekend. Perhaps we didn't go to the right places, which seemed kind of odd to us because there wasn't many places to go or see that was recommended on TripAdisor or Yelp. The beach was ok, litter was pleantiful, and it was freakishly cold the weekend we went, and we thought there would be some kind of boardwalk but its really a line of shops an hotels a street before the beach. Congress Hall's coffee shop and Angelo's Mussels, were the highlight of our trip. We were so underwhelmed we decided to cut our stay short and move on the next stop of our road trip. I love Cape May. The beach probably deserves 4 stars, but due to nostalgia, I'm giving it 5 stars. The cons: The sand is a bit pebbly, and when you enter the ocean the stones can be a bit uncomfortable. Sometimes the water is on the cold side, but it feels great on a warm day. On the weekends in the summer, this place gets pretty crowded. And sometimes there are bad rip tides, and they won't let you out past the first wave or so. I think a weekly beach tag is around $15. That being said, we always have a blast when we're in Cape May. It's relaxing, the lifeguards are great, the beach is fairly clean, the shops and restaurants nearby are great, and frankly it's probably one of the best beach towns on the East Coast. My mom has been coming here since she was young, and I'm sure I'll be bringing my children here as well. Rent an apartment in a Victorian house nearby to get the full Cape May experience! read more

Quality: Cape May Beach is everything you can ask for in a high quality beach. Plenty of sand to camp out on, water that is rough yet still enjoyable, and lots of food spots within close walking distance. The rules on the beach are very relaxed, and unless you are causing problems you can eat, drink, and chill all day. They also have umbrellas, chairs, and water gear available to rent right on the beach. And the water temperature is just right during the summer months. Quantity: The main stretch of Cape May Beach is about 2.5 miles. Value: $15 for a 3-Day Beach Pass. $6 for a Daily Beach Pass. Ambiance: Cape May Beach is located along the Atlantic Ocean at the bottom of New Jersey, right before it enters the Delaware Bay. It is a gorgeous beach in a historic resort town. The picturesque beach has a boardwalk parallel to it with a few different restaurants and shops. The water is calm enough to swim, but at points provides large enough waves to surf and boogie board. Just watch for the warning flags to stay safe. Crowd: Busy during Labor Day weekend, but not near the normal levels due to COVID. Very pretty town and a lovely place to visit. I came in off season where there were no crowds. We found a parking spot not too far away from the convention center, so I'm sure it's not that easy during prime summer tourist season. I know some beaches here require tags and such, but we didn't pay attention because it was off season and people didn't seem to care. Boardwalk is not huge but the usual suspects are there - souvenir shops, ice cream, etc. The beaches seemed very clean and at least during off season, very quiet and relaxing. read more

cape May is not an EV friendly town. Chargers are in 3 different hotels, but you cannot use them unless you stay at the hotel. Found a fast charger 50 kWh on Exit 10 and paid double the normal price. At the time I came to Cape May, it was a little cool for me to hit the beach (below 80 Degrees) for relaxing and splashing. So what did I do instead of that? I biked along the beach and boardwalk. Let's pedal. I've always wanted to bike along the beach in a nice shore town, and thanks to the bed and breakfast that I stayed at, I was able to do so. During my experience, I biked on Beach Ave., which was where the beach itself was located. I enjoyed biking past the scenery and attractions that were available in both directions. Feeling the cool, sea breeze was pleasant during my outing. Bike racks were available in different sections of the beach. I pulled into one, got off, and locked my bike. Then I walked to the the beach itself. Because the beach badges weren't required at the time I was there, I was able to walk on and off without paying a fee. The beach itself looked nice and clean. If this was the perfect beach day for myself, I would have came in my swim trunks ready to relax and jump in the ocean. After snapping some photos of the beach, I headed back to the bike rack. That's where things got a little rocky... When I returned to the bike rack, I noticed that someone didn't park his or her bike properly as it was lying sideways, which resulted in the handlebar interlocking with the front wheel on my bike. While I was able to unlock and remove my bike from the rack spot, the other bike was still attached. I kept trying to dislodge the other bike from the tire, but it was still stuck, which really infuriated me. Soon, a beach employee saw me angrily struggling, and walked over to assist me without saying hi. She was able to dislodge the bike properly with no damages. Surprised, I asked her politely if this was hers, and she replied no and apologized for the inconvenience. She also said that people shouldn't be parking their bikes like that at all. I thanked her for the help and left. Folks, be considerate when parking your bikes at the beach!!!! In regards to vehicle parking, you have to feed the meters on the street. Beach Badges are required during the Summer. BUT, if you don't want to pay for parking or badges, then go to Sunset Beach, where you don't have to pay to park or set foot on that beach. The location for Cape May Beach is convenient for those who are staying in hotels on the main road. Maybe I'll come back again someday. read more

The other mile marker Zero at South end of Jersey is a beautiful spot. Out of the way enough so it's not so convienient for large crowds. A small quaint boardwalk, many cool old historic Bed & Breakfast homes, a small mall area full of bars, restaurants and all sorts of collectibles, souvenirs,antiques... One of the nicest sunsets I've seen ever was here with the Cape May Lighthouse as a backdrop. 1/2 hour to Atlantic City if you'd like donate some funny money. Great fishing if your so inclined. Ferry ride to Delaware is a great little cruise and you can take your car. Great Restaurants. Lots of high quality golf in the area. Fun, relaxing great little shore town! read more

The cape may beach is the most relaxing in south jersey. It's not wild like wildwood and doesn't have all of the people like Avalon and stone harbor. It's a calm and relaxing spot which even some good surf waves if you head to tresales or the cove. I watched the fireworks here and I must say, it was absolutely amazing! It was my first time at an actual beach (bc we all know NY has lakes, not beaches) and I can't believe I waited so long to experience this. I know I'm sounding a bit overdramatic but I've always wanted to see what the hype was about regarding NJ beaches and I see it now. I have to make another trip back here because unfortunately, it was rainy so our visit was kind of ruined but not so much because we still got to see the amazing fireworks display.. And close up! Hand's down the best beach in South Jersey. Great Walking beaches (the beach between the Cove and the Lighthouse is a great place to walk), not horribly overdeveloped like the Wildwoods, Sea Isle or Ocean City, and has that old Victorian Historic feel. Also there is NO Boardwalk, they have the Promenade which is so much nicer. We love it so much my wife and I got married on the beach there in May 2016. One word of advice (after reading reviews about the various great restaurants and the such in Cape May), many places do NOT accept Credit Cards in Cape May so be sure to bring cash. read more

This place is so.... charming. It has this lovely quaint feeling with all it's low-rise shops, trolleys, horse carriages, bed & breakfasts and friendly, mostly older people. I lovingly dub it "Town of Grandmas". And the beach lives up to it's solid reputation. Pristine and relaxing.
