This was my first time camping at Martinak S.P. I was tenting in the Acorn loop. The park has nice amenities down by the water--rental canoes and kayaks, a boat ramp, and a special kayak launch. The bathrooms were clean, with flush toilets and hot showers. The rangers drove by regularly to check on things. I would not choose Site #33 again, solely because the view there is mostly of the base of the big blue water tower. There is electric on sites #32 & 33, however, if you need it. Recreation, retreat, and history--this is an excellent spot to camp! Electric hookups in Butterfly loop, clean, hot showers, cabin rentals, and on-site firewood make this a comfy spot whether you're vacationing or just passing through. A paved health trail, multiple playgrounds, and a little lending library (books ranging from the Magic Treehouse to Bill Bryson and MFK Fisher) make this a family-friendly spot. The amphitheater view of Watts Creek was a great spot to recharge watching fish jump, hear frogs, and spy a lizard or two creeping the trees. Denton has groceries and other amenities within driving or biking distance, and The Martinak Boat and interpretive signs were neat. Alas, the nature center by the pavilion was closed during the week, and Martinak is rehabbing trails and the boat launch--no sunset views from the Point Trail at present. The park is at least up front about these two bummer's and hopefully work will be complete soon. We still has an excellent camping experience despite the construction. Use the dump station at nearby Tuckahoe State Park as the Martinak dump station's closed. Bring a kite to fly in that nice field by the park entrance, and enjoy bird watching. Woodpeckers, song birds, river raptors, even a blue bird appeared in our short stay. read more

Great state park on the Eastern Shore just outside of Denton, MD. About 1.5-2 hours from the DC area, depending on where you are. The park itself is not that big and really only has 2 camping loops, a picnic area, and a boat ramp, but it's very woodsy, very well kept, and very convenient to Denton and the bay. A great place to spend a weekend! read more

Nice small park to take kids for a quick play date. They have fun and parents can sit back and keep an eye on them. Or go for a walk and find painted rocks that's always fun. read more

Went to Martinak over the weekend of 7/13/2018 and it was awesome. While there were some reviews that there was not much for kids to do aside from the playgrounds, we managed to stay busy fishing (channel cats are good here), biking, and just hiking around. Our family brought their kayaks so there was that too. Weather was warm for us, but the constant shade made it nice and cool. The bathrooms in our loop were very nice and redone. Can't wait to go back here again. read more

A fabulous spot to take in the great outdoors! Access to the water and great hiking trails make it the perfect spot to get out and about.

I loved going to this state park as a child! It's fun for the whole family.

The best review I can give to Martinak State Park is my reluctance to write one. Living less than five miles down the road, I make at least one visit a week and usually two or three. The park has become an extension of my back yard and that tends to make me feel protective of it. In the warm weather I ride my bike and in the winter I love to take walks and have some hot soup or beverage. In addition to camping, picnics, boating, fishing, and social events so nicely covered in the previous reviews, there are lovely nature and fitness trails. If you like photography this is the place for you! Try to snap a shot of a Bald Eagle Soaring or perched in a tree. Just last month I came face to face with a Mama deer and her two youngsters.The trees and plant life are not only beautiful but some are most intriguing. In one of the camping loops there are tiny, chalet type cabins that are perfect for those more challenged with tenting and do not have a camper. The Park is currently working to make more accommodations for the disabled. So In the spirit of being a good neighbor I am putting out the welcome mat and I hope others will come to enjoy "my" beloved park. PS. I grew up less than a mile from Martinak and I still find it to be an awesome state park. They are the site for a lot of events like bluegrass concerts, small town festivals and Little League games. It has 2 camping loops, one with electric and one without - and you can't beat the price. The playgrounds are fairly new and the park is small enough to camp and let your kids run to the park without much worry. It's right on the Choptank River which is beautiful. Perfect for kayaking, canoeing, jet skiing and the like. Good fishing too! read more

Awesome little place to spend some time. Plenty of walking trails including a loop that has some exercises at each of the 19 stations. Dog friendly. Boat friendly (boat launch on site). Bike friendly. Some trails in the woods and a old ship that was discovered is out for public viewing. Will return! read more

I appreciate all parks that allow me to bring my pup, automatically giving Martinak a "one up". Having visited both Tuckahoe and Martinak, both within close distance to one another, I'll say I rather enjoyed Tuckahoe better. However, there are two very different distinctions between the two. Tuckahoe State Park has a small/marshy/"off-the-beaten-path" river run, while Martinak is a wide open area for motorboats and kayaks alike. Either way, different, but both are enjoyable. I am a little disappointed that at both of these parks, there is no swimming. Makes for a sad day when the kid just wants to jump in the water and can't do so. The camping sites were average: pretty well spread out and in close proximity to the bathrooms. Bathrooms were a little under-maintained in my opinion. The bugs were booming in there, but I guess bugs are to be expected in the woods. Only two showers and two bathroom stalls to accommodate over 10 campsites located around the loop... which totally makes for tight quarters and long waits. Martinak did have a super cute chapel area tucked away, which had amazing views during the sunset though. Also, close by in the small town of downtown Denton, there's an awesome main st. that set off fireworks for the annual Caroline Summerfest, which were enjoyable to watch on a nice cool summer evening. read more

Went canoeing here over the weekend... we paid $15 for four hours of canoeing on the Choptank River. Not only was it an excellent deal, the river is beautiful! We took the dog which was an adventure in itself... it was very nice to find a place that was dog friendly, though. If you have a canoe or a boat, there is a boat ramp that allows easy access. There were lots of boaters -- kayaks, canoes, jet-skis, motor boats, water skiers, etc. But the river is big enough that it didn't feel crowded. I highly recommend this place if you're on the eastern shore -- dog or not! read more

Though it was a nice setting, and Ranger Dave was friendly and very helpful, I give two stars because the park is infested with deer ticks and chiggers. I'm guessing Maryland doesn't spray the way other states do. I will avoid camping in Maryland in the future. I'm riddled with chigger bites, and keeping a close watch on my ankle where I pulled a deer tick from my skin. read more
