The playground, piccadilly castle, is a large wooden playground that could use some updating. They have a smaller area reserved for only smaller children, which is nice when it's crowded with older kids and they have no regard for your toddler. The swings could use an update and the slides could use a deep clean, but everything was pretty solid. The castle has bricks around it with names of those who contributed toward or helped build it. It's neat to see some familiar names! I recommend this park and playground for those who have kids needing to get rid of energy or those who need to walk and clear their head.

So while we were sitting around the camp fire we both heard this loud kinda like a horse was snorting and stomping. Actually like 100 horses. And we were sober! I grab my flashlight and this thing was playing cat and mouse shit with me going from one side of cabin 3 to the other. But the one time I peeped it's hairy foot. Then came around and sure as shit it's BIGFOOT LIKE 8 FOOT TALL AND JUST MASSIVE. I SCREAMED LIKE A WARRIOR AND IT JUST RETREATED INTO THE WOODS. WE RAN IN CABIN 2 SO QUICK. THEN I STAYED UP ALL TILL NEXT MORNING ON BIGFOOT WATCH. JUST TO MAKE SURE IT WASN'T GOING TO MESS WITH US. WE HAVEN'T BEEN BACK SINCE

[Coronavirus review] Tons of people drive past the turnoff…read morefor this place on the way to the beach without ever giving it a thought. Is it worth making a detour? In our social distancing era, the calculus changes perhaps, as the beaches will be crowded and this place will not. Most of the actual preserve is a gravel road; you don't need four-wheel drive or anything, but you'll be dusty. Of several trails, the one at the very end, Ferry Point, leads through an interesting manicured landscape with gnarly trees encircling the path. The offshoot labeled "jack-in-the-pulpit trail" suggested some nifty pitcher-plant looking foliage, but I saw nothing like that. Maybe I just didn't know what to look for. There's a small beach, and some people were using it for boating or fishing. The water was as pleasant as I've seen on the Eastern shore; calm, clear, and with plenty of plant life. So much of the Chesapeake shore is private land that it's nice to be able to see what the scenery looks like without a McMansion, and this preserve is not a place where I'd spend the whole day, but it is convenient to stop at on the way to or from other things.

Recently visited this park and it's quite nice. Some things to consider. There is some type of mite…read more- possibly Oak mites - that bite everywhere, even under clothing. They don't seem to be chiggers because the bites are everywhere, head to foot, and spaced out whereas chiggers are usually many bites in one area. Itching lasted for about a week. Additionally, there is a huge bald-faced hornet nest on the blue trail as you're heading back. My friend who is about 6 foot almost hit their head on it. We were able to walk past without an issue, however. They aren't usually aggressive unless disturbed. These guys visit me on my deck and are quite chill if I don't swat them. People have already started using it as a landfill and there is quite a bit of trash on the small trail leading to the water. The hornets nest and mites were reported to DNR requesting they place a warning sign. The hornets did nothing wrong and hope they leave them to do their thing.

There is a canal running along one side of it, and a nearby bridge. The park has benches, picnic tables, and a playground (swings, slide, and wood pirate ship). A park this small is not really a destination, but it is nice to have as public space, especially due to the number of tourists visiting St. Michaels. The sitting places and waste disposal are very helpful for those needing a place to rest a bit while walking the town, or to eat lunch, or bring a blanket to picnic. I know that with a baby, stroller, and dogs, this kind of stop can be really helpful just to regroup and regain composure for the next activity. For those with older kids, it's a great spot to get energy out on the playground, or simply running in the grass. This would probably also be a good meeting place for visiting groups, or like a check-in location for a field trip. It is a peaceful little spot, and the harbor is directly across from it, so there are great water views!
