I was looking for a fun non-beach outdoor activity and discovered this playground only a few minutes away from our rental. When I got there I was so happy to see that a large portion of the playground was shaded. There is a huge playground area, a big gazebo with a book rental box, baby swings, tunnels to crawl through and a sandbox with a ton of toys. There is also a large clean bathroom with a changing table. Overall, it was the perfect park and my daughter had a really good time. I'm grateful that we found it! If you are in Dewey with kiddos and need a break from the beach this worth hitting up.

Visited Kiwanis Park this week after beach time at Higbee. My son needed play time to run out some energy because he is still getting used to the beach and it's not his favorite right now, much to my dismay. Kiwanis made my toddler's day! He had a ball on the playstructure, swings, and just running around on the lawn. He loved watching the fountain in the pond, which I was happy to see still running in November. The posted rules say dogs aren't allowed, but various locals were walking their dogs all through this park. The park isn't huge, definitely no walking trail or means of real exercise, except for the basketball court, which is a half-court size. For leisure, picnicking, playground, etc. it is a great space, cuted up with the pond view. Private parking lot is down Leroy's way, the small lane at the entrance.

On Sundays, they have a live band, ice cream for purchase, a playground, pond, and lots of open grass for family and friends to enjoy. Everyone's favorite part is the Sunday fireworks show. It was an absolute joy. I would've recommend this to anyone. Even the trails that were rocky that go outback through the woods we did on a street bike no problem. They seem to be very well-maintained trails. At one point you had the super long bridge that goes over a swampy area, which is really cool too. On the way up on the trail, we saw a turtle crossing the trail on the way back. We saw but I assume is the same turtle taking a hole with his back legs. I don't know why I spent my whole life going to the Jersey shore. You drive an extra hour. You could come down here and have a super nice beach that's not packed and the super nice trails that you can bicycle too.

First, it's dog-friendly which is a huge plus (be sure your dog is leashed at all times). Second, this is a lovely trail for hiking a couple miles, but it's not covered by trees, so perhaps it's better for a cloudy day. Third, you'll get a view of sand dunes, wetlands, and a pond (if you're lucky, a heron will come into view). This is a delightful trail for a relaxing walk - and a haven for joggers, dog walkers, and photographers. I think the Gordons Pond Trail is one of the crown jewels in Cape Henlopen State Park.

They were working on one small section, but it didn't disrupt too much. It doesn't matter which entrance you start at - there's not much of a hill, and there is park to walk in on either side of the zoo as well. The only animals we didn't see were the Spectacled Owl, Lynx, Prairie Dog, some of the monkeys, Ocelot, and Fox Squirrel. Everything else was out and mostly awake. My favorites were the Burrowing Owl, Peccary, and Flamingos. I've never been that close to a flamingo before and they sounded like geese! We'll definitely stop in again whenever we're in the area. (an EV charger nearby would be perfect!)

This is a cute little zoo that is free! Please do not go in with high expectations--this is a small…read morezoo. The highlight for us were the bears, as they were active during our visit. The alpacas were also active, and we saw bison, some birds, some reptiles, and a wallaby. But this zoo definitely needs some TLC as we did not see many of the animals expected as listed on the website. I know that animals might not be active during a particular visit, but there were enclosures that either had a sign on it or looked like there was definitely "no one home." There is a small cafe with hot dogs and hot pretzels, a slushie truck, and a small gift store. The adjacent playground is a plus, and the whole surrounding park area looks like a great place to walk on the trails. Don't forget to leave a donation so that they can stay open and stay free!
