Third, you'll get a view of sand dunes, wetlands, and a pond (if you're lucky, a heron will come into view). This is a delightful trail for a relaxing walk - and a haven for joggers, dog walkers, and photographers. I think the Gordons Pond Trail is one of the crown jewels in Cape Henlopen State Park.

There are lots of bike paths, hiking paths and a large camping area that looks very well kept. There is also lots of wildlife, both driving around in the park or in the ocean. I have heard that the traffic can be horrible sometimes but I tend to visit early in the morning or later in the evening. This is a beautiful place to visit and I would highly recommend, especially for sunrise and sunset.

Overall the walk was not bad and it was well worth it. I recommend bringing chairs or a blanket. If you plan to stay a while. On Sundays, they have a live band, ice cream for purchase, a playground, pond, and lots of open grass for family and friends to enjoy. Everyone's favorite part is the Sunday fireworks show. The show is great! We will continue to add this park to our Sunday fun day while in Ocean City.

Very spacious sites with the bathroom/shower reasonably close. Parking was "ok"..... but they fill up and then you have to use overflow. The bathrooms/showers were clean BUT I guess I'm used to sites that spray repellent because nature is boss. We drove through the comfort sites of D and they were too tight for my liking. They have yurts and cabins but for me a tad too close. They do have an Island camp site Loved it!!!!! That's a must do. It's 2 sites across a short walking bridge with water view and access. I would definitely go back.

One thing I don't understand is why the Park Maintenance people don't cut the Wisteria growth on the trees? Some trees have vines over two inches in diameter. Vehicle entry is $5 for Delaware residents and $10 for out-of-state to park here for the day. It is a huge parking lot but it's a beautiful area so I imagine it gets packed during the summer! Be especially aware of bicycles as there are hundreds of them and share the road. Joggers, too! Something about the sprocket was bent. Ugh! Instead, I sprayed some sunblock on my arms neck and face, put on a hat, and took a walk. The beach is stunning. Flat, warm, sunny and not overly crowded for a July weekend. While the beach is not step free, they're trying hard to make it as accessible as possible with mats and ramps that can support a wheelchair. That's awesome. I did see a bunch of offroaders. Apparently, you can get a permit to bring your 4WD onto the beach. Pretty darned awesome, that is! What are those huge concrete structures? They're WWII-era bunkers! Yes, these huge installations were built to counter the fear of German U-boats invading Philadelphia via the Delaware River. They have a smaller area reserved for only smaller children, which is nice when it's crowded with older kids and they have no regard for your toddler. The swings could use an update and the slides could use a deep clean, but everything was pretty solid. The castle has bricks around it with names of those who contributed toward or helped build it. It's neat to see some familiar names! I recommend this park and playground for those who have kids needing to get rid of energy or those who need to walk and clear their head.

When I saw that Brecknock Park had a wooden playground, I figured I had to check it out. The park is absolutely beautiful. There's lots of open space for throwing around a frisbee, jogging, picnicking, playing soccer - you name it! There's a small garden area to walk through that has the plants and trees labeled (always nice to get in a little outdoor education). The wooden playground was everything I'd hoped for - very well-maintained, lots of different jungle gym options, and I got in my obligatory swing set time on a nice, sturdy swing set. Whether you live in the area or are just passing through, I'd definitely recommend spending some time at this park. Wish I could have enjoyed it longer! I'll absolutely plan on stopping by again next time I'm visiting that area.

I was looking for a fun non-beach outdoor activity and discovered this playground only a few minutes away from our rental. When I got there I was so happy to see that a large portion of the playground was shaded. There is a huge playground area, a big gazebo with a book rental box, baby swings, tunnels to crawl through and a sandbox with a ton of toys. There is also a large clean bathroom with a changing table. Overall, it was the perfect park and my daughter had a really good time. I'm grateful that we found it! If you are in Dewey with kiddos and need a break from the beach this worth hitting up.

There is also a lot of wild growth there that can definitely contribute to your hay fever. I urge any of the five-star reviewers head out to California and visit any beach there. You will be amazed.
