When we called them to question why the car was making noise and overheating they gave us the runarounds. Also had us go to the DMV for our registration sticker ourselves. They were adamant that my mom didn't need the sticker as long as she had the paperwork. The worst thing was that when we brought our car back to be inspected, we saw 2 guys pissing by the back wall right in front of us. No shame. BUYER BEWARE: RUN, DO NOT WALK AWAY FROM THIS BUSINESS. What should have been a simple, straightforward cash transaction turned into a huge fiasco, with one lie after another leading to two full days of wasted time. I live on Oahu but travel to Maui a couple of times a month. I began renting electric Chevy Bolts from Payless at the Kahalui airport, and I fell in love with the car. It was quick, sporty, and free of gas, oil, tune-ups, transmission issues, and potential expenses. So, I started looking for one to buy. That is when I found Kihei Auto Sales, and I wish to hell I had never stumbled across their name! I found Kihei Auto Sales on Facebook Marketplace, and they had the vehicle that I wanted. I had cash in hand--no credit necessary. Subsequently, I got passed off to a salesgirl (and I use that term very loosely) named Ahnanda, who seemed friendly and pleasant. She offered to send me the Carfax on the vehicle I wanted and some additional photos within minutes. This was a 2:00 p.m.Thursday. I waited and waited for the email from her because I had sent her an email, so all she had to do was reply to my email. Yet nothing came. At 6:15 p.m., I called Kihei and asked for Ahnanda, but I was told she had gone home for the day. I asked the guy on the phone if he could forward me the Carfax and photos, and he said that he didn't want to "get into her files." About 9:15 a.m. Friday morning, I called and spoke with Ahnanda, who told me that her work email was "glitchy" and that she had emailed me the stuff the evening before she left. However, she said that she was with a customer and was in the middle of getting their insurance paperwork, but she would get the stuff sent through her Gmail once that was done. At 10 a.m., she texted me asking me if I had received the stuff, and I said no. I never received it, so I sent her another email she could reply to. There would be no possible excuse for her having put in the wrong email address. At 11:05 a.m., I received the Carfax. No photos. At 11:43, she told me she was finishing up with a customer. She thanked me for my patience and told me she would call once they left. Keep in mind that I only needed to know how to pay my money to them to pay for the car in full. That's it. There was no bickering, stories, or credit checks. It was just a straightforward conversation to pay them over the phone or through Venmo or whatever. Nothing more was necessary. Now get this... at 1:10 p.m., she sends me a text message and says she is finished doing the insurance and will be calling me soon. Now we have wasted another 4 damn hours doing a customer's insurance paperwork? I call BS! That is when I started looking for another dealer because if they are too damn busy to make a simple call to a cash customer in 24 hours, then they are disrespectful of my time and don't deserve my hard-earned money. After never hearing back from Ahnanda, I sent her this text message @ 6:22 p.m. Friday evening: "This is two days in a row that you have left me hanging waiting on you. You screwed up my entire day! I've got cash in hand to buy a car, and I just wanted you to call me to tell me how you wanted me to get it to you. I don't know how the hell you stay in business treating cash customers this way! " She responded, trying to make it my fault and claiming that I never gave her respect. I have given you the conversation to this point, verbatim, but here's what she had the gall to reply to me: "I'm sorry you feel that way. I've been busy all day with customers and have communicated with you about it. We're a small family owned dealership on a small island. We only have 4 workers. I have to help the people that show up on the lot. I'll have my manager contact you tomorrow. I have treated you with nothing but respect. I wish I got the same back. Thanks." The conversation got ugly after that, and I told her and her boss where they could stick that vehicle. I can't put the language I used in this review, or it will get denied. I was uber pissed. She wasted two days of my life when I was trying to pay CASH for a car. She kept trying to message me after I told her twice never to contact me again, so I blocked her. I would bet money she kept messaging me, but I don't care. This morning at 11:00 a.m., I will pick up my Tesla from a dealer in Honolulu. I have attached a photo. It's tax return time and graduation is getting close, so I feel it is a good time to share my experience purchasing a car. I would consider this a PSA of buyer beware. I found a car that I liked and it was in a good price range that is about all I can say that was good. When we test drove it, there was loud noise under the car. It turned out the car had been repo-ed and there was damage to the undercarriage. I was assured this would be fixed. That was the start. The finance manager is truly unethical. I had credit in the excellent rating however, he ran three hard inquiries, causing my credit score to go down 26 points. He also tried to finance in-house at a rate of 12%. I know the value of a good credit rating, that's why I have it. I ended up finding my own financing at less than half that. He was also very pushy and did not want me to read MY documents. Because I insisted on reading MY documents I caught that they were not going to pay for the undercarriage repair. I literally had to reach across the table to get that document and change it myself. He also tried to pressure me to sign completely blank documents. When I was getting ready to leave with the car, I asked for the second key. It was only at that time that I was told there wasn't one. So I asked for one and Matt, my sales person, said he would look into it. I did not hear back from him the next day so I contacted him and was told I would not be receiving one. I asked for his supervisor's contact information which was also ignored. I followed up by saying I would be contacting the Better Business Bureau, which I did. The dealership ignored the complaint, and it was closed due to no response. In the meantime, the part that I was told would arrive in a couple days kept getting delayed. When I looked at my paperwork, the repair document states that if it's not completed within 30 days, the dealership is no longer responsible for doing it. When I read that I was concerned because the part would arrive after 30 days. I felt this may be a tactic for them to get out of the repair, so I filed a complaint with the office of consumer protection. I also I found the president's name and contacted him and felt like I was getting somewhere until the general manager, Javin, who was looped into the emails, denied receiving a Better Business Bureau complaint but when I provided the complaint number with the closure statement the president of Kihei auto sales stopped communicating with me. Several weeks had gone by by this time and I had a slow leak in a tire and had it repaired by my trusted mechanic. He saw that the clips the dealership had installed on the damaged undercarriage were not doing the job and he needed to repair it. At this point I had zero faith in the company at all. (The part had not arrived yet). Another important factor in this sales transaction was my car was never registered correctly with the dealership and I was driving an illegal car. Approximately four months later, I was provided with the correct registration under the dealerships name. This nightmare that I had experienced lasted almost 6 months and I did not trust Kihei auto sales to repair the undercarriage. My office of consumer protection complaint included resolution that would have my mechanic do the repair at their expense. The dealership refused to agree to this $72.50 repair bill. It was only when they needed me to get the safety to put the car in my name, which I would not do until that was agreed on, did they agree to it. The Kihei auto sales license plate frames were in the trash almost immediately. Don't forget to ask about that second key. read more

Go Somewhere Else For Safety Inspections The guy doing the Safety Inspections needs much better support via customer service training. Both vists (over three days) were weirdly clunky. I arrived at the designated spot and there were 4-5 guys there and no one acknowledged my presence or existence for a couple of minutes. Worried that I had somehow become invisible, I had to ask three times if the right guy was aware that I was there. He was one of the guys, five feet in front of me working on something. He clearly didn't want to be bothered. Finally, in a tiny display of frustration, threw his rags on the ground, more clunky communication, and then he helped me. Seems like a nice guy but every customer facing employee in that area needs more training from the company. read more

In the process of a warranty claim on a '16 Honda CRV. The AC stopped working after we bought it from them after one year and they initially tried to make us pay $1600 out of pocket to fix it. We called them out on their BS and they ended up replacing it but charged my girl friend who doesn't know anything about cars $245 to replace the cabin air filter. Less the 6 months later the evap core breaks. Because it was less then a 1 year from when they replaced the part they are saying that it's not covered by the warranty we purchased from them and can only cover the parts cost and make us pay an additional $1200 because we are now living on Oahu. Their story changes and every time we talk to them and won't stand behind their work. It's been 2 weeks with our car at the shop. I feel as though we are getting passed from person to person and are being made to call around their office and are always "helping other customers and unavailable." I hope they see this review and start acting with integrity to make this right. I will follow up in a week to give an update. I hope management makes the right choice of not condoning this and that we are able to talk to someone that has the ability to resolve this issue. Update 10/8: Management still has not returned my many calls. They will are not honoring their warranty and will not credit me fair market value of labor to replace. Just found out that this company scam my husband and I of 17000. The car they sold us was a pure lemon. Byron sold us a car station g it was in excellent condition and it ended up having fuel line problems, oil leaking, electrical problems. We just found out that inspection did not pass before we bought it! We thought they would step up to pay for the problems we found but later, they asked for additional payment for fuel line issue and other things. They are expecting us to also pay for safety check that did not pass before purchase and not telling us it would not the 1st place. Please see other review. Both 2 jobs decided to purchase a car through them. First car, in 2 days inorperatable ( we lost work ) then came the 2nd, 3rd, 4th loaner all with severe issues and again wouldn't take us to work ( we now miss work and verge of being fired ) we were also strong armed, treated like complete garbage, and we had no choice to return all cars and then release a van which we were forced to live in because as you all know the island has no rentals and every landlord only wants "single occupancy" but we are not transient, drug addicts , displaced by these type of colonists profiting and scamming Hawaiians. Moving forward from that strong but very true statement we went with the van, and sadly this van transmission was bad, car not operatable, took to mechanic who stated " I get many cars from kihei" another dealership so kind to tell us to report to Rico. So those of you with similar experience call Rico. My husband and I continued to make our timely payments and Kihei auto took grands from us, without any remorse that they made us lose our jobs since busses as you know don't run late night and we work hospitality. Worse is how they mocked my profession when I said I am a health aid and clients depend on me and stated that my husband served, we did nothing to deserve you displacing us after so many chances. They mocked us and literally said " who's life are you really saving" . We dealt with everyone to the owner all ruthless, and if you are an intellectual woman they won't even talk to you at all. They continued to mock me to my face and look at my husband and only respond to him because well he doesn't have the level of legal education I do so they even tried to manipulate his nativity. This was my husbands first time with dealership and they ruined our credit severely and never even reported all our timely payments and put us as repo although the car was bad transmission immediately and we did a legal willful repo due to lemon car . I should of went with major dealerhip as I was approved but made such a fatal mistake and now can't even be approved and forced to transit and pay cut cause have to work around bus schedule. Worked with Ben, who was helpful at the time of the sale. Late Friday night sale, and they wrote and shredded several copies of the contract they were trying to write. Should have been a red flag. I asked to be a co-signer on my granddaughters loan; without my knowledge, they made me a co-owner. Big, big difference. Hooked me up with a finance company on the West Coast that has over 1000 negative comments in the past three years. Added $3000 service contract without asking me (my bad, I should have looked more closely at the contract), but our copy was hard to read, and at this point, we had signed and signed and signed, both my granddaughter and myself, and not paying attention. Now, 4 months after sale, the paint is pealing off. We can now tell it was a new paint job and can see the blue paint underneath. Bens' only response to the co-owner vs co-signer problem was that we said we were probably going to refinance at some time in the future. What we were GOING to do does not correct the current problem, also not relevant. And, he has not reacted at all to all the other problems. They really represented the bad reputation used car dealers have. Even though they have lots of good reviews, they totally messed up with me. I purchased a 2003 Mazda Protege from Kihei Auto Sales on 8/16/18 from one of the salesmen, Rex. I paid cash, in full. It was $2,500, my entire budget for a vehicle. Three weeks later, the very first time I drove it outside of Kihei, the car began overheating and died, leaving me stranded on the side of the road in Lahaina until the tow truck could come and tow it back to the Kihei Auto Sales service center. It took the service center a week to look at the car, and Ethan, the service manager at KAS, has now informed me that the radiator is cracked in half, and the head gasket is so blown it is "blowing bubbles". He said the car is totaled, as this repair would be many thousands of dollars. I'm not saying they knew about this before they sold me the car, but I can't say for sure they didn't either, because a car shouldn't break down to the point of being totaled just three weeks after you buy it from the dealership. So far, Kihei Auto Sales is offering nothing. They said the best they can do is "try to get me in another car for no-money-down financing" aka sell me another car. Also, Kihei Auto Sales attempted to blame me for driving if after the radiator died, which is a lie. Before I purchased the car, Rex was telling me what a great car it was, and how it should last for a long time, awesome car... yada yada yada. I purchased a used car and was advised of the list price and monthly payment amount. On closing I was advised by the finance department Zalo it "comes with a 3 year warranty" however he never went over terms interest rate or any of the paper. Instead signature lines appeared on a screen and I was told to sign here. Only when a few weeks later I was attempting to refi with a personal loan for much less interest did I see the numbers weren't what I was told by the sales person only to find out the warranty wasn't "included" I was buying it for almost $4K! The warranty company agreed to cancel but needed paper from the finance guy which they emailed me and I handed to Zalo. 9 phone calls later and 2 personal visits I'm still paying for a policy I was not advised I was buying and was cancelled 4 months ago. Zalo keeps saying he will take care of it and doesn't dispute the fact I should see a principal balance reduction but he never has taken care of it. Now I have damages as the interest rate has gone up and I can no longer get the low rate of 4 months ago. Beware consumers. It's obvious I need to go beyond trying to work this out in house. read more

Ben at Kihei Auto sales was amazing!!! Super helpful and went above and beyond to get me my Rav4! The car was is pristine condition when I picked it up. It looked brand new and drove great. I mentioned when I test drove it that it might need an alignment, although it was slightly off they took care of that for me. He set up my car shipping and delivered it to the port since I live on a neighboring island. Great communication & delivery through and through. Definitely recommend! read more
