I called this office looking to get an appointment for my mother who had a toothache emergency. The office does take new patients and was in network with insurance. The receptionist is very nice and friendly. She was able to get my mom in to be seen right away. My mom ended up having to do a tooth extraction and it was done that same day. Pricing seem reasonable. Based on her insurance, she did not have to pay out of pocket today. Staffs are friendly. We are happy with the care given today. Overall, I am please with the office and will continue coming here for regular visits. read more

My wife went to Kiene dental group in Shawnee Kansas to have lower snap in dentures. Her decision was based off of the reviews for this dentist. Unknown to her the very high rating reviews were for the father who has retired not the son who now runs the practice. After having an exam, x-rays was told he could do the snap in dentures. They quoted her a fixed price for the entire procedure for $20,000 dollars, she signed the contract for the procedure. After removing her lower bottom teeth Kiene inserted four studs into her jaw and gave her a temporary dentures. She was told it would be 6 to 8 months before they inserted the permanent denture do to healing time. Approximately 2 months later my wife made an appointment because the denture did not fit correctly. Kiene made adjustments to the denture and then attempted to charge my wife an additional $2000 dollars for the adjustment. My wife said no we have a agreement for the procedure start to finish. For reasons unknow to me her husband she paid an additional $1000 dollars. The time frame of 6 to 8 months turned into Approximately 18 months. She was informed to come and have the permanent denture placed. She showed up and was informed that her permanent denture had not been received. Two weeks later the permanent denture was placed and the job was completed. We left town that afternoon for the winter season, she complained that the denture was uncomfortable. She called the office and left a message for Kiene to call her. A staff member instead of the dentist called and my wife was informed that it was due to the upper teeth and denture being not in alignment with her upper teeth. We went to another dentist and after new exams found one of the implants never was placed right and never made contact with the jaw bone. It has been a couple years and weare spending another $10,000 dollars to have bolt in dentures placed in her upper and lower jaw. The new dentist said that this was the worst job he has seen done in his career. If you are considering having bolt in dentures done in the Shawnee area I recommend going to Affordable implants in Raymore Missouri where I had mine done. Dr Frank did my upper and lowers for $35,000 and 7 years later no problems at all. I contacted my attorney regarding Kiene work and wanted to file a lawsuit against Kiene. That state of Kansas does not allow for damages or pain and suffering by a dentist in a lawsuit. It is my opinion that Kiene dentistry is inept and I would not allow this practice to touch any member of my family for even a exam. I am filling a complaint with the peer review board of dentistry in the state of Kansas tomorrow. I recommend that you go ANYWHERE else to have work done. I would go to Mexico before Kiene. I can't believe I have to give this hack a one star review to publish this. It should be a negative 10 star. read more

My long-time dentist sold his practice, and the new owner was not on my dental plan. I researched for weeks before choosing Kiene Dental Group, which had good reviews and was close to home. My first cleaning with Dr Howe was in Nov of 2023. I was pleased with his work and that of the dental hygienist. I had subsequent work done in Nov. and Dec. 2023. At the end of each visit, they calculated the amount I would owe after my dental insurance paid their portion, and I paid that amount in full. This is the first time in my life (70+ yrs) I have ever been asked to pay before the insurance has paid, but I figured times change. Then in Feb. 2024, when I received the Explanation of Benefits (EOB) from my dental insurance, I was surprised to see that the amount they calculated I owe after their payment was far less than what I paid. I overpaid $352.55 to be exact! How can the calculations from the dental office be so far off when this is what they do on a daily basis? I called Kiene Dental and asked them to check into the matter. Several calls later and little response, I finally asked to speak with the account manager. Kristy (Kerstin) said she would investigate the matter, but eventually decided she would only communicate with me in the future through email. That was April 4th. I straightened out one problem with billing they could have easily solved by simply making a phone call. I sent Kristy copies of EOB and payment she requested several times, to no avail. I have not received any communication or explanation from her since, nor have I received my overpayment of $352.55. I called my dental insurance, explained the situation, and sent them the same paperwork to look at to make sure I wasn't mistaken. They assured me Keine Dental had overcharged me. The agent and I placed a 3-way call to Kristy twice, but she never answered or returned the messages left by the agent. At my last cleaning in Dec. 2024 (I only went because I know my insurance pays for cleanings in full), I told the hygienist and Dr. Howe why I would not be back and explained why. They both said they had no knowledge of anything to do with the accounts. That part I understand, but the calmness and lack of concern over the situation was a bit surprising. Dr. Howe said he would gladly send my dental records to my new dentist and would pass along the reason for my departure, I assumed to someone in charge. If he followed through, that too has elicited no response. So, I will be looking for a new dentist. In the future, I plan to pay only a portion of the full amount up front. My advice: if you use dental insurance at Kiene Dental Group don't pay the full amount they request, because if you overpay you probably won't get your money back. read more

If you are looking at this office for a new dentist, please find another location. The first time I came to the office, it was to do a filling. The hygienists were behind the room I was in, talking badly about my dental health and being completely unprofessional, I left in tears. After speaking with a member of office staff, I agreed to finish the filling and return. I attempted to book an appointment today because I had to cancel my last appointment. Due to not telling them, they asked for prepayment. I didn't show up to my appointment due to my son being attacked at his school that day and in an emergency, I wasn't thinking about calling them. Prior reviews are for his father not him. I had lower snap on denture placed. It took two years to get the lower plate. They are still uncomfortable, food gathers underneath to the point I need to remove them multiple times when eating. They are painfully to wear and are being replaced by another dentist. The contract for the lower denture was for 20K. Then they proceeded to charge me another 3K dollars. Beware of choosing this dentist for snap on dentures. My experience was horrible. read more

Here is my honest opinion and experience at Kiene Dental, I called there needing a root canal in late January, they let me know that they didn't do root canals on the tooth I needed done but told me of a place that did. I went to the recommended endo; they did a fantastic job so I thought I would go back Kiene dental because they had recommended me such a nice place. From the start of my appointment, I was nervous dental work is never fun. I let the doctor know I had sensitive teeth, the whole experience was pain beyond a normal crown I was in tears, I asked the doctor to numb the roof of my mouth and when a topical didn't work the doctor said there wasn't much they could do. I was in a lot of pain, but we continued, towards the end of my appointment the doctor completely stopped and left the room with the nurse. I was still in tears talking to my fiancé who had been present for the whole process when the office manger walk into the room telling us the doctor would not be finishing, they informed me that I might have been having a flare up, mind you I was still in terrible pain four or five nurses along with her were yelling questions at us and telling us we could not leave and we would have to sign forms, then it went to she couldn't let us leave because my tooth would ger infected to I had to leave to go see an endo, the whole thing sent me into a Panic attack in the room. I begged to leave and just be done for the day I was in pain beyond belief, they would not let us leave and kept asking me to just take a walk and come back. I asked for a refund and to please just leave, they would not let us. In the end it was decided that they would give me a crown to take with me to the endo. The only appointment the endo had was 4 hours from us leaving so I sat in pain for hours after leaving, on the way to the endo hours after my appointment at Kiene the office manager called me and let me know if I took done my bad review that they would give me a "full refund of and dismiss me as a patient" at this point I was in the parking lot of the other doctor still in pain and told her I would need to think about it because it was an honest and truthful review of my experience and what happened. For weeks ( 2.29 2:19 pm/ 3.5 8:46am-9:29am / 2.28 9:25am/ 2.23 9:22am/ 2.12 11:15am/ 2.9 12:15pm.) now I have been trying to reach out to talk this office manger and have only gotten voicemail until today where I was met with lots of attuited and " we won't me giving more than $$$" because you didn't take your review down until the 2/29". Which I respond to with why I would take my review down if I haven't been able to get a hold of you. This is a long review but necessary to explain and hopefully help people from having a similar experience, the Dentist should be a place where you don't have anxiety attacks and incredible amounts of pain. I'm extremely disappointed with their approach to customer service and to patient health. The dishonesty of people in charge of care and helping you to feel your best is appalling. read more

This group is state of the art! They have all the latest equipment and the friendliest staff I have ever met! You can look out the window while you are getting your teeth cleaned which puts everyone at ease. New patient and was able to fill out all my paperwork online before my appointment so the day of the appointment I got in quickly! They have a large staff and all of them were so nice. I wrote a review for Holbrook at Kiene that was glowing since his presentation was exceptional. But after treatment I've changed my mind about them. The PRP graft that was put into my gum was Sutured loosely and it fell out the soon after. The suture was so loose the knot wasn't even onto the gum, I could feel it with my tongue. They are inexperienced and I will never go there again. I sent an email to him about charging me for a shoddy job without any response. They also have you sign multiple paperwork before getting anything done, more than any dental practice I've ever seen. An expensive mistake to go there. read more

Office staff was very friendly and professional in setting up the appointment. Day of appointment I checked in and spent about 1 minute in the waiting room. I went for a cleaning and they made mistakes, causing permanent damage and a great deal of pain. I was told to make an appointment to follow up. They wouldn't fit me in and I had to wait two weeks. I was then told that they had an emergency show up, so they were going to take that person ahead of me. They had me wait more than 5 hours! It wasn't an emergency when they damaged my tooth and made me wait weeks. I finally gave up. My impression is that this practice is incompetent and greedy. read more

I just moved to the area and picked Kiene Dental Group based on reviews. I have seen Dr. Sousa twice so far -- once for a cleaning and once for a cavity fill. He was very personable and immediately put me at ease. Dr. Sousa made sure I understood everything that was going to happen, which was nice (nobody likes to be surprised during a dental procedure!). He talked to me through the whole thing and also made sure I had all my questions answered before he moved on to his next appointment. The filling was easy and stress-free. The staff are also top notch! The hygienists are so friendly, and after my appointment, they brought me to a separate office to discuss billing, insurance, etc. SO much nicer than discussing those private things at the front desk like with most offices I've been to.
