I arrived on time, several ministers before my appointment. The front desk reception girl asked me for insurance which I provided. She said this is HMO not PPPO. Very rude tone of voice as if HMO is not welcomed. I said that I found your office on Aetna web site and that it shows you guys are taking new patients. In fact Aetna referred me ti your office. When I phoned this office, they booked my appointment with no issue. But upon arrival, the front desk receptionist is very rude. The receptionist said that I will need to call Aetna to verify if my insurance PPO or HMO. It was such a frustrating experience. After 15 minutes, I decided to leave. It is not worth my headache. As a new patient, I did not feel welcomed but judged. I was treated and talked to with disrespect and treated like a minority and outsider. The demeanor along was filled with discrimination and discomfort. So I told them that if you do not want my business, its Ok. im happy to leave. So I left. read more

Office staff have a bad attitude. We changed insurance providers and they claim to have made several attempts to contact us to get the updated insurance information for an upcoming appointment for my son. Neither my wife, my son or I have any record of a call or e-mail from them about this. So a week out from the appointment, I get an e-mail from them claiming that they have made several attempts to reach us, that we have not responded to messages, and demanding that we provide insurance information at least 2 days prior to the appointment, or else we will have to pay in cash and pay the cash price. The message goes on to tell us how difficult it is for them to have to process the pre-approval on the insurance and that they refuse to do same day insurance checks because of how difficult it is for them. I really don't I need communication from them about how difficult their job is and making demands and treating us like we are something they stepped in. I am now getting repeated phone calls from them at work demanding the insurance information and reminding me of the deadline to submit it, or else. Because while I am busy at my job earning the money to pay for my insurance benefits and pay them for the "service", I really don't need to be hounded by someone who wants to avoid the parts of their job that frustrate them. Most practices now have the ability for patients to go on-line and provide the information and are able to also provide this through an on-line pre-check in process and avoid the phone calls. But Olathe Smiles believes its better to have their staff spend time acting like debt collectors for a loan shark and threaten consequences for clients who fail to meet their demands to make their jobs easier. I have never had any issues with my teeth and have been told often how great my gums and teeth are. My last visit was frustrating. Had my x-rays and was waiting for my cleaning, they did the Perio Probe, which was rougher than normal. Suddenly I have pockets of 5's and I am bleeding. I am now a Perio patient, I still wanted my regular cleaning because I don't understand how you can have such drastic changes in 6 months. They could have done the requested cleaning and put it in as 4045 for insurance. I was basically brushed off and sent up front to make an appointment for $800 in extra cleanings. In disbelief I asked the front desk lady, with the eyebrows, if I can just have my cleaning. With no remorse or care for anyone in the lobby, she rather loudly told everyone that I was "Now a Perio Patient and didn't qualify". I have waited 2 months to leave this review. The front desk lady mentioned above is NEVER pleasant. The other staff is fine, I have never had an issue there and have been a Pt for a while. No one in my family is a huge fan of the dentist, but every experience at Olathe Smiles Dentist has been such a pleasant one from the front desk, billing, dental assistants and the dentists! My sister saw Dr. Theresa Rawalt, who is such a sweet and informative dentist! She came in for an evaluation and teeth cleaning. Due to her gums sitting on top of her molars, she developed cavities. Dr. Rawalt explained the filling process and numbed her up very well as she did her teeth cleaning. The overall procedure went by smoothly all thanks to Dr. Rawalt and the dental assistants Denise for the x-rays, Benita for help with the filling and Annie for the polishing! Overall, my family will be coming here for any of our dental needs and will recommend anyone else looking for friendly dentists to do their or family dental work! read more

I went in for my first appointment and they didn't even clean my teeth. Instead, they did 20 xrays and poked at my gums making them bleed. Followed by saying I need extensive care and additional cleaning appointments for my "bad gums". Which in my 20 years of going to the dentist every six months I've never once been told I have bad gums or need to come in more for extensive care. I asked if I could do a basic six month cleaning and they denied me that because my gums don't qualify. To top it off, I was never given the choice of not getting the extensive gum check AND was not made aware that I would not be getting a cleaning while I was there for my scheduled CLEANING appointment. First of all, Dr. Robert Fechner is terrific. I have been very happy with the dental work he has done for me over the last 3 years. He is pleasant, helpful and extremely competent. His office manager is another story. Every time I have been to Dr. Fechner's office they appear to be training a new person for the front desk. I suspect that is because Dr. Fechner's office manager is difficult to work for. She has a very abrasive personality. She is not customer friendly or helpful at all. I spent 40 years as a sales manager in a customer interactive environment. I know what a good customer service experience looks like and feels like. Communication with this person is difficult at best. There have also been instances where I felt like my concerns weren't taken seriously or addressed with the level of professionalism I would expect from a healthcare office. The last conversation I had with her, she hung up on me abruptly which is what caused me to write this review. In positive reviews I have written for this office in the past, I avoided discussing the office manager. While the dental staff is friendly and skilled, I believe the office manager's condescending attitude and poor customer service impact the overall experience. I hope they take this feedback seriously and work on improving their communication and approach with patients. read more

The dental assistant helping us was sweet and very nice to my 3 year old who was there for a "Happy Visit" (only there to get comfortable with going to a dentist). She was working very hard to let my daughter be comfortable and stepping her through some introductions. Then, a very young dentist walks right in and almost immediately sticks his fingers in my daughters mouth to check her teeth. I couldn't believe it but in the moment couldn't react the way I would have if I could do it over. He didn't have any introductions, didn't tell us what he was doing or why, and most importantly, didn't ask permission first. This type of interaction is unacceptable, especially for a 3 year old and a "Happy Visit". My daughter gave me the look of wanting my help so I told him that we were all done. Couldn't be more pleased with this dental office! From the moment I stepped in to the beautifully appointed waiting room with the beautiful artwork, until I walked out I felt as though I was cared for appropriately. I was seen at my appointment time and Cameron did an excellent job with my xrays (even though the machine was being ornery!). She remained patient and pleasant throughout. Dr. TJ is extremely thorough and spoke to me throughout my exam explaining what he was seeing and how we could address my many issues. Too many staff changes like new hygienist every time I go there. New dentists to often as well. PLUS they always seem to want to up-sell me on other services. Had a broken tooth extracted here. The front desk girl was very sweet and did a great job, but that was the best of it. Dr. Tu and his assistant were both very short, unfriendly and kind of rude at times. Had my procedure on a Wednesday and by Saturday was in excruciating pain. Called and spoke to Dr. Tu on the phone the Monday morning after the procedure and he didn't really listen and brushed me off saying everything was "normal". The next day I called back as the pain was getting worse. Got an appointment that day but was made to feel like I was complaining about nothing and like a drug seeker (I never asked for pain meds). Was told it was "absolutely not" a dry socket or infection and was sent to a different doctor who gave me antibiotics and steroids and said I was infected and had a partial dry socket. Within 3 hours of starting these meds, my pain was almost gone. I missed 2 shifts at work and paid $475 out of pocket by the time all was said and done. Super frustrating and will never go back or send anyone I know to them. read more

In a word FANTASTIC! While on Wedding week I broke a tooth. It was significant and very painful. From the moment I walked in until they were friendly, helpful and kind! It was like I had been a patient for years! They took me back did requisite X-rays and had me in a chair being examined within 30 mins of opening the door. Just a little over two hours later I walked out with a brand new crown and though a little numb happy and ready to get on with the week. I'm in the Army going to the Command and General Staff College at Fort Leavenworth for this year. They don't allow us to miss very much class time, so finding a "one stop shop" for my dental needs was extremely important. The dental office on post lost my trust after the dentist there and his assistant (who are super nice BTW) dropped instruments during my appointment to get a temporary crown. Not only that, but after 3 days the temporary crown fell out when I was eating a sandwich (not something that was even that hard)!! Additionally, when I called the Fort Leavenworth clinic about it, they said that having a temporary crown fall out after 3 days was normal! I just don't see that as being the case. All these shenanigans was after getting referred for a root-canal that should've been followed within 3-6 weeks with the temporary crown. Fort Leavenworth forced me into the above appointment 7-8 weeks after the root-canal and basically told me "tough" at their front desk and to "just be careful" with the tooth that just received the root-canal. Needless to say, that's when I started wondering if I could go somewhere else. The on post dental clinic is severely lacking in customer service at their front desk and a level of competence that I'm comfortable with. After calling TRICARE (insurance) for my procedures, they gave me a list that I whittled down to a couple places. I eventually chose Olathe Smiles Dentistry because they could do all of the procedures I needed AND do them all in one day with NO follow-up appointments (pending any unanticipated complications). The dental clinic (Ebony) on post very begrudgingly set up the referral for me. No one likes confrontation, but I am SO glad I put an end to my suffering at their hands. Olathe Smiles Dentistry was great from when I checked in (Ebony screwed up the insurance referral paperwork that Olathe Smiles front desk ladies fixed PROACTIVELY), to the assistants and the doctors. First, I saw Trish who works with the periodontist Dr. McKenzie. She got me x-rays and helped out during my root lengthening. "Root lengthening" really should be called something else because it's when they cut out gums from around your tooth and sometimes grind down bone. I was nervous going in. However, both Trish and Dr. McKenzie were hilarious and their conversations REALLY set me at ease and took my mind off of the procedure. Immediately following that appointment (same day) I moved from one room to another for the permanent crown to be put in. Dr. Rawalt and Benita (I think) were the ones helping with that. They were both great as well! I can't express how thankful I am to go to one place for fixing the shenanigans related to that one tooth. Even with a sore jaw right now, I am extremely relieved to have gotten the procedures done by a staff that was not only VERY customer service oriented, they showed empathy through distracting and hilarious conversation (anthropology, Star Wars, toddler hyjinx...), and they were competent as well as efficient. All the dentists here are amazing and so is most of the staff. However, the general operations manager Brandi is unprofessional. She speaks a mile a minute, doesn't like to answer questions, and walks off. I was going to get a crown and asked her the prices. She told me that you must pay $1,000 there are no other options. Well, I knew from going to this dentistry a long time that there are are a variety of prices. I had to ask another staff member the prices of a crown and she quoted me far less expensive prices than Brandi the operations manager. Bonita was friendly and helpful. In addition, today my sister called Brandi to give her information and she needed. My sister told me that Brandi acted like she didn't want to be bothered and rushed her off the phone. She needs customer service skills and possibly a demotion to a position that doesn't involved working with people! I would have given this practice 5 stars if it wasn't for the operations manager. read more

So I found this place off of my insurance website and I am so happy that I did.. I made an ER appt over the phone as I was in so much pain.. They got me in same day and when I showed up I maybe only waited like 2 min. They had already processed insurance and I was able to do the new patient info ahead of time. My Dentist was Theresa Rawalt. Omg she is amazing she is so nice And caring. She took the time to listen to what was wrong. I had a root canal, but the next day I am having NO PAIN.. which is amazing. She even called the next day to check on me. All the staff is so nice and caring. I chipped a back tooth and stupidly put the repair off because of my busy schedule. By the time I called, I was in excruciating pain and absolutely miserable! Olathe Smiles was able to get me in within a couple of hours. From the moment I walked in, I felt comfortable and welcomed by the office staff and atmosphere. Dr. Fechner was able to "help" with the immediate pain (my goal) AND was able to fix the entire problem same day! He was very patient with the numbing (I kept becoming unnumb) and he was a perfectionist with his work. I could not be happier with the results. Immediately afterwards, the surrounding gums/mouth area were barely sore from where the shots and other work were. (Which would be a normal thing -esp because I was so sore before!!) I will DEF. be going back and recommending this practice to everyone I know! And finally, the support staff was great! I was there all afternoon and they continually checked on me to see if I needed anything and was ok. I never felt like I was squeezed in or an inconvenience. I would give it no rating. Had a consultation on June 12th 2019 for a root canal. After paying the $65.00 consultant fee, was told the next appointment available was July 12th 2019! I needed a ROOT CANAL that day. Will not recommend and will file a complaint with my dental insurance company. read more

I had an appointment on Friday that was canceled by Dr. Fechner and his team. The reason they gave was a lie, and I now know this for a fact. Most people these days are incredibly busy and make arrangements well in advance for their appointments. They expect their dentists to honor their commitments the way patients have always been asked to honor theirs. That did not happen in this case, and it seems as though my time and the plans I had made were easily tossed aside, and I can only assume it was only for a slightly longer weekend. It's clear I was not valued as a patient. If you desire a dentist you can trust and that respects your time, you better look elsewhere. read more

Prices are always a plus and let e tell you this place has great prices and really great financial plans but prices aren't always everything. All of the staff here are extremely friendly and welcoming. Ralph did my X-ray's and he was extremely friendly and kind. Not to mention, they don't treat you like garbage when you tell them you don't have insurance or a lot of money up front, they are understanding and helpful. VERY slow service for families. I was there for over 2 hours with 3 children. The actual appointment time was less than 30 minutes.

During my first visit today I felt very comfortable with Dr. Fechner and his office. He was professional and personable. The staff, from the front desk to the assistants to the financial person were experts in there perspective support roles. I was impressed how smoothly everything went. I went in at 12noon and was out at 3pm with a new crown that fixed a broken molar. Since our previous dentist retired, I think this will be our new dental office. read more

Smiles Dentistry has impressed me so far. It started when I was having severe wisdom tooth pain which was also causing me jaw pain. I had already had an appointment else where but they couldn't get me in for another week. So I filled out the emergency appointment paperwork online through Smiles Dentistry and got a call within 30 minutes. I got an appointment in the next day to be looked at and had an exam, a cleaning, and X-rays. The whole deal they fit me right in! I was impressed by that. Yesterday I went in for my Wisdom Tooth Surgery and Dr. Vogl made me feel so comfortable and reinsured me that there wasn't going to be any problems and the surgery would go smooth. He was one of the best doctors I've seen. He was able to joke and be funny but also be serious about his work. I am happy with Smiles Dentistry and their work.
