Had my second visit today, and went smooth and was right on point once again. I had missed my last two appointments and Dr. Marengos Staff followed up with once again to schedule appointment and got me in two days later. I have a busy lifestyle and tend to put things off so I can't thank them enough for their persistence. Staff has been super nice and professional both visits. Had to bring my 4 year old this time, and Sarah was super nice and understanding with him being in there. The office is always Super clean and a joy to be in. The dentist is very good. I did not have a good experience with the assistant who usually does the billing. I am not sure she knows what she is doing. She could not get a temporary crown off and proceded to tell me she hadn't done that in a while. She got a more experienced person to do it. That took about 20 minutes. It felt like she was going to slip and hurt my mouth. That's just not professional. She had me sit there for a long time. Please don't tell me you "used" to be able to get crowns off. I would like someone that is current with their skill. Also she did not give me water to rinse when she was done drilling. Had cement all over two other teeth that was not cleaned off. And did not try to get my bite right even though I said it was off. She said the black paper looked fine. Not a good experience. Came home with my bite not correct. read more

I went to their office for a standard cleaning and for a tooth that had partially broken off. They told me I NEEDED a root canal and without explaining the cost they filed my tooth down and put in a temporary crown. Then instructed me to make an appointment to the oral surgeon across the parking lot. When I went to check out I was told that my insurance didn't cover all of the cost of the temporary crown and I owed another $850.00 plus but they were ok with me paying $100.00 a month. I'm still paying after 9 months! The temp crown fell out after 2 days. I went back and they replaced it. That one lasted for 3 days. I was in the hospital when I had a follow up apt. and since I didn't show they charged me another $60.00. BTW: the root canal was going to be over $1,500.00 after Ins. I found another DDS and was told I DID NOT NEED A ROOT CANAL but eventually I would be he didn't like to perform unnecessary surgery. He put in a temporary crown that was covered by my insurance. Cost ZERO! He took a mold and when it came in he put in a permanent crown. It fits perfectly and the total cost after ins. was just over $600.00. STAY AWAY FROM THIS OUTFIT!!!! Had to reschedule an appointment (cleaning) because of military duty (pre-mobilization training) that was beyond my control. They advised they could not schedule for a couple of months as a result. Explained that I had a window and would come in if there was a cancellation. Unfortunately, they did not seem concerned or willing to work with me. My family had been going to them for years. I was extremely happy going to Dr. Marengo for my dental work over the past 2-3 years. Then for some reason He pawned me off to the younger lesser experienced dentist. He inserted a crown in my mouth that didn't fit. I let him know but instead of whittling it down and making it fit like Dr. Marengo does, he sent me home with it. Within the hour it had broken not only the crown but also my tooth so now they want me to get a $5000 implant. That's shady. Not to mention that when I had the tooth pulled he threw in some plastic fake tooth and charged me an additional $500 I didn't even know I was spending for a tooth that never fit and went in the back where no one would see it any way. Typically I don't review private businesses or services on Yelp...it seems a little too personal. But after checking out Dr. Marengo's Yelp page, I felt compelled to share my great experiences about his office. The only "published" review of one-star is just ludacris. I suggest that you scroll down to click on the option to see the other 18 reviews of his office that are for some reason "not recommended" by Yelp?!?!? After moving back to KC, I struggled to find a dentist office where I felt comfortable, calm and cared for. Office after office proved to be just the opposite. That is, until I visited Dr. Marengo's practice. The office is so warm and inviting and the staff is always so welcoming. I actually get EXCITED...yeah, I said it...EXCITED to visit the dentist now. It almost feels like a spa day treat! They even offer up hot towels after cleanings and blankets if the office is chilly. And the staff is definitely the best there is. I've been scheduled with a few different hygienists and each one has always been incredibly friendly and gentle. When I have needed more than just a cleaning, Dr. Marengo and his associates have done a great job and it' s always quick and painless. And if you've been burned by insurance issues in the past, I feel your pain. You will not have to deal with that sort of headache at this place. The staff does an excellent job of actually EXPLAINING the billing to you so there are never any surprises. And better yet...they are always giving away free stuff! I once scored a gift basket filled with treats. It's like the adult version of the toy chest or lollipop!!!!! Honestly, no one likes going to the dentist. As a customer for 17 years, I only recently had a bad experience. I want to start by saying Dr. Marengo is a great dentist and I will continue to go to him. Today's visit was fine, but what I want to write about here is the way I was treated between appointments for my temporary crown and my permanent crown. First of all, they made me wait 5 weeks between those appointments. Normally, you shouldn't ever have to have a temporary crown on for more than 2 or 3 weeks max. After nearly 3 weeks, I called to ask if I could come in earlier because the temporary crown was really causing me a lot of pain and was sensitive to hot and cold. The receptionist, Emily, told me there are no appointments available and that I probably need to have a root canal and to go see a specialist for that! I told her, no, it's likely the temporary crown causing me pain and normally I don't have to keep temps on for more than 2 weeks - I've had several crowns done before, so I know this. I told her again I have been in pain and don't want to have to wait another 2 weeks. Anyway, she offered no empathy and I ended up waiting the full 5 weeks for my appointment and I was in pain the whole time. I understand being busy and booked up, but when it comes to crowns, they NEED to be able to fit patients in for that second appointment timely. And I don't think a receptionist should be telling me I need a root canal when I clearly know I don't. read more

I had a "smile" makeover of front upper teeth. Well it is a night mare not a smile I feel. First of all they don't tell you that the prep is to grind your teeth down to toothpicks. (which ended up having me to pay 1100.00 to a oral surgeon for repair nerve damage on top of the 8,000.00 for the makeover. They state that they ensure that the teeth won't be seated until your happy with smile. It has been since April 2022 and I have had nothing but pain in my mouth and my bite messed up. the first set of teeth didn't fit so had to remake them. the next set came in and we're placed. you can't see your smile before seating your mouth totally numb and can't lift your lips. When I called after they were seated to speak with Dr Sylvester (my dentist for many years) couldn't return my phone call he was with patient. doesn't over 8,000.00 make me a patient? I was assessed and claims were billed to correct problem that they caused. I feel so violated since my teeth hurt everyday and my bite is off. PLEASE Beware of Smile Makeover. Check out what really happens beforehand. Know that if you do have problems they will not ensure your happy and will charge your insurance and yourself to repair their mistakes. Money becomes the goal not the patient in my case. I really like Dr. Sylvester but he has not done right by me. ( by the way the grinding down of your teeth done by dental assistant not the Dr.) Billing me, and my insurance for a job not done correctly is not the way to do business. He only works a few days a week. so getting an appointment when your in pain is not an emergency to him. read more

Due to hygienist not properly evaluating my existing medical record that was transferred in from another office, I was not given the correct treatment which resulted in me paying high out of pocket cost - without insurance coverage . Due to incorrect treatment, I believe my oral gum health is not as good as it was before. I tried to explain this problem to the staff and they incorrectly explained, I had to go my old dentist office if I wanted to continue to get correct treatment needed - even though I had my medical records transferred. When contacting my insurance they explained I should be able to get the expected treatment I needed due to my health record - regardless what office originally did the diagnosis. I asked the person over the phone to cancel the rest of the treatments for rest the year for treatments I thought was incorrect. She then asked me if I wanted to be removed as patient - which I thought was rude. I responded "yes" and then, asked her could she remove my family as well. I would not recommend this place to anyone as a result of the incorrect treatment and rude demeanor the hygienist and the patient coordinator had. read more

I ran into the same issue as a few other reviewers, they will quote you a price for a major procedure, you pay "your cost" upfront and the insurance company will pay the other half. Well it ends up either they only quote what they want you to hear or their receptionists need to go back to billing school. I was suckered into getting major, necessary, work done but ended up pay $500 more than what I was advised up front. The staff is friendly however so if you don't mind your wallet weighing less than expected then this is the place for you. Also, I was billed for a cleaning that never existed. How can I prove that to my insurance company that paid for the maintenance cost? I will be trying a different, reputable, dentist in the area. read more

I had an older crown break off with the stub. Luckily Dr. Marengo was able to rebuild a stronger core and attach another crown, thus saving me the cost of having to extract that tooth and replace with an implant. This is the second time Dr. Marengo has saved a broken crown in the past year! I will also say he has a first class office staff who work with your insurance and provide accurate co-payment information before any procedure is performed, so you are never sticker shocked with your dental bill. Dr. Marengo takes pride in his work and you will always get his BEST from a simple filling to an aesthetic crown. He explains in detail what the procedure entails and constantly ensures you are comfortable during the entire procedure. He is up to date on latest dental info, and keeps his office current with the newest product/procedures to ensure you have an awesome smile with quality workmanship that he stands behind. If you don't like something, they will fix it. His assistants and hygienists are very personable, they get to know you and have a genuine concern for your oral care. In response to Dr Marengo's note left on my initial review... I did call the office and try to work this issue out. I spoke with a lady for a very long time who said that she would discuss the issue with the doctor and call me back. When she called me back she said that the doctor agreed that the charges were correct even though they misled me on what was covered. I am not sure what calling the office again would do. As far as I am concerned this issue is resolved by me never returning to your facility and making sure I share my experience. read more

I went for implants got through the extractions went to get my implants done and was told that there was a down payment. I was not told this prior I was told I can make payments before when I asked why I was not told about the down payment the billing lady said because we were not at that part yet. However if they told me in advance I would have had the money saved up and ready. I thought they were a god sent to help with my failing and infected teeth but now I am stuck with poor fitting temporary dentures because they were not upfront with me. I am still trying to get all of the rest of the money for my implants so I can just pay them completely and be done with it. Other than them not being up front with payment information and price seems to keep going up the hygienists are nice. read more

My husband called to get a detached crown taken care of. They gave him an appointment for 1:40pm. Turns out they lied, knowiny and by policy. They intentionally set it for that time knowing that the staff is on lunch until 2pm. Wasting patient time is rude and highly unprofessional. Today while at my appointment, I noticed some TV's in the patient rooms had the news or some other show on for the patient to watch while they were being worked on. I did not have that and I would have liked to. I faithfully go to the office every 6 months and I keep getting the room where the only thing on the TV screen is my x-rays whereas I see other rooms have shows on. That would be a nice distraction. Recommendation: ask every patient if they want to watch something on the TV. Dr. Marengo's office is nice, professional and the employees are very nice. They are always prompt and courteous so I feel I'm being picky over the TV. Because I have a recommendation I'm giving them 4 stars instead of 5 but this is really a 5 star place. read more
