During a recent visit, I tried to purchase two items; one was unavailable in-store. The associate…read moreoffered me a free shipping card with a code to order the item. I thankfully made it a point to make sure the free shipping code actually worked while attempting to make the purchase via the Ulta App before leaving the store, and that's when I discovered it was expired--dated January 2026, while it was now the end of April 2026. The fact that these cards had been expired for nearly four months stood out to me as extremely alarming--no one had noticed until I flagged it. There were apparently no other shipping cards to provide me with and so I departed the store after 15 minutes of wasted time of them trying to sort this out only for them to tell me that there is nothing they could do. I contacted customer service upon leaving the store. After my first call, the associate disconnected the line. On a second call, another associate kept repeating internal processes, but eventually proposed a solution: I would pay for shipping upfront, and then they would reimburse me after the fact. Unfortunately, this is not isolated; previously, a few months prior I went to the store because a product I was looking for was listed as in-store, but the associate told me I couldn't buy it--even though it was right there on the shelf. I verified availability online, and still, I was misled. She stated that although it was on the shelf it was erroneously placed there and listed online as in store but could not be sold until a couple days out and that I could return when it is available for purchase or simply purchase online. These repeated failures--both in-store and with customer service--reflect a troubling pattern. In a market with competitors like Amazon and Sephora, Ulta has been falling drastically short. There has been a noticeable shift where basic customer expectations are simply not being met. I tend to go to Ulta because it is very close to my home but will not be returning as my first option/ go to any longer. I made this same commitment after my experience at Best Buy and I have only been there 1x in 20 years to buy something worth $6!

I visited the Pure Shea Store in Eastern Market a couple of weeks ago and was eager to purchase their whipped shea butter, but they did not have it in stock as it was too warm outside. I went back yesterday and they had the Coco Mango Shea Butter whipped shea butter (see picture) and their leave-in conditioner which I will get into later. Eager to test it out, I tested it out on my hands and it was nice, but I really loved it when I used it after I showered. There is nothing like smelling good with highly moisturized skin that DOES NOT leave a residue on your bedsheets. What made it better is that I still felt moisturized in the morning as my legs simply glided against one another when I was getting comfortable in another position. Moving on to the leave-in conditioner... The leave-in conditioner did not have a scent printed on it compared to their other products like the coco mango shea butter, but it is not really as important because it smells great nonetheless. Now, we all know that just because a hair product smells good does not mean that it will work for your hair, however, this is not the case for this product. I applied a small amount to the palm of my hands, rubbed them together as it melted like butter, and ran it through my hair (which I think is 4a/4b and high porosity, but is currently blowdried). This product rejuvenated my hair and made it feel so soft as maintaining hydration can be difficult for me at times. Pricing... At first glance, the prices appear a little pricey. The 7.5oz of whipped shea butter was $17 and the 15oz of leave-in conditioner was $14 (This is a more understandable price). However, given the quality of the products where A LITTLE GOES A LONG WAY...the prices are worth it (see second photo below which is how much product I used after my first official use). I have a feeling these products will last me a few months or more which is awesome to me! Overall opinion: These products hold true to their name regarding providing moisture to one's hair and body. Additionally, they have so many other products too such as soaps, hair and body oils for natural hair and locs, regular shea butter in many many scents, and more to try and possibly make a staple in your care routine. Please note that as you can take my opinion into consideration, I highly encourage you to try these products yourself as you may have a similar or different opinion than many being that not all products work the same for everyone. My review is my personal opinion based on my own experience. Enjoy!!!

I debated writing this review because some of my frustration is honestly with the lash industry in…read moregeneral, not just this particular appointment. I've been getting lash lifts/Korean lash lifts a few times a year for the past couple of years, and I really wish more providers communicated with clients throughout the service. The first few people I ever went to would explain what they were doing as they went--"I'm doing this step now," "next I'm going to do this," etc.--and I didn't realize how much I appreciated that until I started going to places where almost nothing is said. Unfortunately, at this appointment, the lack of communication actually affected my results. When I arrived, my name was called and I was told to get on the bed. There wasn't any consultation about what I wanted, what type of curl I was looking for, or what tint color I preferred. I assumed that maybe the provider was evaluating my lashes and would ask questions as we got to the relevant steps. That never happened. At some point, my lashes were tinted black without anyone asking me what color I wanted. I have naturally blonde lashes and would have preferred brown. More importantly, I specifically get lash lifts because my natural lashes stick straight out and I want some curl at the ends. I paid about $150, and unfortunately my lashes now look essentially the same as before--straight out--but black. The most concerning part of the appointment was during the tinting process. One of my eyes started burning badly, and I said that it was burning. Nothing really happened, so I said again that it was really burning. Water was then poured into the other eye--the one that was not burning. I explained that it was the other eye, but the incorrect eye continued to be rinsed. Eventually I sat up and said again that my eye was burning. After some additional confusion about which eye I was referring to, it was finally addressed. I've had some irritation during the tinting portion of lash services before, so that part itself isn't necessarily unusual for me. Other providers have sometimes given me a small fan during that step, which has helped tremendously. What bothered me here was having to repeatedly communicate that my eye was actively burning before the correct eye was addressed. I'll absolutely take some responsibility for not speaking up at the beginning and explicitly saying exactly what I wanted. I've learned from this experience that going forward I need to initiate that conversation myself rather than assuming there will be a consultation. But I also think a professional providing a service like this should be asking basic questions before starting--especially about the desired result and tint color--and communicating enough during the appointment that the client understands what is being done. I genuinely wish this were more common across the industry. At this point, I would happily pay more for a lash provider who starts with an actual consultation and simply communicates throughout the service. It doesn't need to be a chatty appointment. I don't need conversation for the sake of conversation. I just want someone to tell me what they're doing, ask what result I'm looking for, and respond promptly if I say something is hurting. Unfortunately, between the lack of consultation, the issue when my eye was burning, and the final result, this appointment was extremely disappointing.
