Parkview Manor - Interior hall

Parkview Manor

I recently had the pleasure of attending the wedding of the daughter of dear friends, with the…read morereception being held at Parkview Manor. It was my first time being here and I was impressed with the venue and the service. The name, Parkview Manor, suggests something exotic or traditional, maybe like an old mansion. Instead, it was a rather plain looking grey building with a large parking lot, in the middle of an industrial area. It was clean and in good repair but really had no character to it. Stepping inside, however, told a different story altogether. The reception/bar area was a bit small and cramped, making it a little hard for all the guests to move around comfortably. The passed hors d'oeuvres were plentiful, with a decent variety but tasted a bit ordinary. The main banquet room, with the head table, dining tables, and dance floor, was very spacious and beautifully decorated, with intimate lighting. Our meal was very good, maybe even excellent! We started with soup and salad, both served tableside. The main course had a properly cooked piece of salmon, a very tender steak, potatoes, and veggies. Dessert was chocolate mousse tart and creme brulee, served alternately. Other than the dessert being a tad sweet for my taste, the food quality was good. Kudos to our server, who was very friendly, engaging, and efficient! Having worked at one of the top banquet facilities in the GTA for ten years, the food and service here was top notch! If they had an area, indoor or outdoor, for photos, it would be perfect! The wedding, overall, was fantastic! Congratulations, Melissa and Brian!

I was teetering into 3-star territory because of how unimpressed I was with the entree. But then I…read morethought about everything else, the antipasto, the dessert, the food stations, the service, and the insider info from my friend about how great the coordinator is. So I'm thinking...meh, why bring down a decent venue over some overcooked steak? Parkview Manor, like every other banquet hall, has a fairly boring exterior, but the inside is clean and well-presented with your typical banquet hall decor and chandeliers. TONS of parking, which is an advantage of being in a bland commercial area. The building is split into two areas so it's highly possible there are multiple events happening at the same time. Food, of course, is the number 1 priority as a wedding guest. As stated up front, the entree was bad. Really bad. The filet mignon was tough like leftover meat from boiled stew. The chicken, already expected to be underwhelming at a banquet hall, was especially bland. I suppose that's the risk of a 2-meat plate. But everything else made up for it, I think. The antipasto was plentiful and delicious, especially the smoked salmon and the giant parmesan cheese wheel. The dessert was a wonderful creme brulee. The oysters at the oyster bar were fresh and shucked before your eyes. Even the sweets table had some tasty cakes. Servers were quick and unnoticeable, which is a mark of a good banquet hall server. You don't want plates clanging against each other during a speech. The bottom line is I had a wonderful time here as a guest; food, service, and coordination being a huge part of that. So I can live with a little chewy beef. If you are planning a wedding at a banquet hall, I wouldn't pass on this. I hear the guy that coordinates the venue is fantastic. (50/100) - 2018

Bayview Village

This was my first time attending an event at Village Loft, operated by Oliver and Bonacini. Wow!…read moreThe venue, food, and service were all on point The venue, located on the upper level of a standalone building in the parking lot of Bayview Village, was a warm and inviting space, with brick and wood walls, large windows, and very intimate lighting. We used two of the three available sections and it was more than enough space. The event was a baby shower luncheon and the menu was very appropriate, with a variety of roving hors d'ouevres, salads, sandwiches, and desserts that satisfied everybody's appetite. The salads were all colourful, fresh, and tasty, with a good variety to choose from. The sandwiches - salmon, chicken, pulled pork, and vegetarian - were all delicious, as were the desserts. Personally, I would have preferred a tad less dressing on the salads but maybe that's just me. The service was also excellent, from the moment I walked in and was greeted with smiles by all the staff. Used plates were cleared from the tables very efficiently and the buffet table was replenished quickly. Overall, this was a great experience and a very enjoyable baby shower!

I liked the fact they got an elevator to get us to the 2nd floor, as the venue is there. Then I found out this venue is part of the O&B group, there's a certain aura this venue signifies as well as a standard O&B represents. I like! I like the setup as the food came in the middle, and we serve ourselves. I like that configuration. I can control portion on my own. First came the appetizers and there's risotto ball, and warm salad. Surprisingly they taste quite decent even though it was mass produced. Then the mains came after about half hour and there's all three choices of beef, chicken and fish. So I am not stuck with one. The biggest surprise were the beef and fish. As I mentioned earlier, banquet food tends to flop when it is mass produced. But not here, the beef came out soft and juicy still and the fish actually tasted good. I didn't have chicken as I was full by then. Dessert were homemade doughnut balls and a tiramisu. These were dynamite. I had an extra serving of these wonderful goodies. Overall experience is very nice. Food was good and service is quite good.

Had my wedding here recently…read more What I loved: The venue itself. Gorgeous space, very versatile. The draping, lighting and sound were great and ran smoothly. The event staff on the night of were great, and the flipping of the room was executed in a speedy fashion. The staff were professional for the most part. There was a lot of turnover with venue staff initially while we were planning our wedding, but in the end, for the most part, Stacey was very reachable by email and dealt with our concerns in a timely manner. We used Zuchter Berk kosher catering who is also the owner of YMG. We liked the fact that all the tables, beautiful chiviari chairs, draping, and dishware were included in the price. The food: We had the beef short rib as our main which was well worth the money. The dessert (chocolate torte and warm apple crisp) were also fantastic. Our guests ravved about the main course. We didn't get much of a chance to try the h'ors dourves but heard they were good. We weren't too impressed with the passed desserts which we opted to do instead of a full sweet table...we had requested specific passed dessert items which were specified on our contract, and they ended up serving something completely different which we were upset with. If you have a choice between soup and salad for first course, I would say definitely go with salad. The soup was served cold, and the portion was small (although salad apparently is $6 extra per person instead of soup, which we thought was a huge rip off, so make sure you negotiate this upfront). What I didn't like: They didn't have a locked card/cheque box which some other venues have. Two of our cards went missing and when we returned to the venue the next morning, we found an opened envelope with our names on it, with no card or cheque inside. After tracing who the card came from, we found out their was cash in there, so it was stolen by someone because that particular envelope was given to us later in the night and we left it on the head table rather than locking it in the bridal suite. This was partly our fault, but nonetheless it did not feel good the morning after the wedding knowing we had been stolen from. Making any changes whatsoever to our contract was like pulling teeth with YMG/Zuchter Berk. It was a very frustrating process at times, and we felt like there was ZERO CUSTOMER SERVICE. Everything had a price tag attached to it. When we chose to have our wedding at the venue, we were promised a great deal and reasonable prices. We went on the word of one of the owners when he said "don't worry, you'll decide on the specifics later when you do your tasting". Along the way, when inquiring about different menu options (we were debating between chicken and beef, and were initially going to do a combo plate) we got differing information from different people we spoke with. One person said it would be $16 to upgrade to beef, another said $8. It seemed they were making prices up as they went along. We were even asked to provide written proof of a conversation we had with their old event planner who told us coat check was included, which we were definitely told, albeit verbally, that it would be. So the bottom line is it is a great venue, and if you are having a kosher wedding in Toronto, it is price comparable to most synagogues and you get a much nicer space. It is one of the hottest venues in Toronto right now. But, as a word of warning, if you have your event here, BE SURE TO HAVE EVERYTHING IN WRITING. Question everything on your contract at the get go, and make sure you have all of your questions answered in email or specifically stated on the contract in advance before you get in too deep.

Disorganized and rude team. Lack of communication between the owner and catering. Worst of all,…read morethey double booked us and notified us with the worst email with no details of alternative dates or when they would get back to us with dates. When we responded the caterer addressed nothing in our email other than providing alternative (earlier) dates and didn't include any other months that were outside of their "off season" dates or address if they would offer anything for other months. They stuck by their contract and provided a full refund, but provided no customer service. Owner has not even apologized or contacted us and hides behind the catering group. Look elsewhere first.

After all, worst case scenario was that I'd get a lot of wine for my trouble. The Metropolitan Centre in Scarborough is a fascinating event hall that wears its heritage proudly on its sleeve. It was a bit overwhelming - and a bit humbling to walk in here for the first time and take everything in. This is a sprawling space that offers some of the best food I've had at an event hall in a very long time, and the event was an interesting and fascinating experience. We enjoyed salmon, salad, roasted red peppers, mini potatoes and all the bread and wine we could handle. And the baklava. OH MY GOD THE BAKLAVA. And it was the nice, light baklava that was handmade. I ate like half the plate when they brought it - don't judge me, I'm a growing boy. I will be the first to tell you that I am not literate in Greek culture, so it took some time to acclimate to their customs. When in doubt, kiss the hands of your elders and hug everyone you can. It was very interesting to see the reverence the assembled guests (including several politicians) had for the academy, which is affiliated with Saint-Paul University and teaches young men to be priests. This was definitely an experience I won't soon forget, and the venue was classy and filled with good times and great food. If I ever have the chance to attend the Metropolitian again in the future, I'll be there without delay. Highly recommended.
