While exploring Little Tokyo, my daughter and I stopped into Kiddleton. We've done a few claw machine style games in Vegas, so it was cool to see a stop in LA as well. This place also has some dance and rhythm arcade games in the back as well. Inside the claw machine games, there were plushies, anime figurines, collectibles and more. You do have to exchange the cash for tokens to play throughout the Kiddleton game area. There are a lot of different games to choose from. Most range between 1 to 2 tokens per claw machine game. It was a fun stop to go inside while exploring Little Tokyo LA. It's kid gambling that gets addicting very quickly if you're not careful. Many little claw machines to try to get trinkets, but as usual, the claws are calibrated too weak to pick up anything other than the lightest prizes. I snagged myself two little chicken danglies in one go on one machine! And wasted the rest of my $5 trying to get other cute things that get gripped but the claw but then immediately dropped when the claw violently shakes at the top of the cycle. Shady? Maybe. I want to preface this review with the fact that YES, you can win from these crane games, but it's best to survey the machines first before committing. As many other Yelpers have stated before, the machines are pretty cramped with prizes and the grip strength isn't the strongest, so I would recommend finding machines that are a bit more sparse and prizes that are a bit smaller and an added bonus is if the prize isn't bundled up and there's some "looseness" to it (meaning that the chain or strap isn't wrapped around the prize and is accessible to the crane). It's $1/token, so definitely keep this in mind before you go into the PG lite version of gambling. Most of what I've won here are only the smaller prizes. Random note, I have won more from these Kiddleton crane games that are located at grocery stores than I have here, so just gauge everything before you dive in! read more

You basically HAVE to hit payout in order to win because the way most of these prizes are shaped there's not really any tricks to use. I visited Kiddleton at the Westfield Sherman Oaks Mall with my kids, expecting a fun experience. Since it was our first time, I asked an associate how the coin machine worked so we could get started. Instead of explaining, he simply pointed at the machine. The display is very small and not intuitive, so it took me couple of minutes to figure out that the machine exchanges into 1, 5, 10, and 20 coins. After finally getting coins, we tried several claw machines. After multiple attempts, it became extremely frustrating to watch the claw pick up a prize, lift it, and then drop it every single time right before it started to move reaching the drop-off. This happened repeatedly across different machines. I asked the employee about it and explained that it felt unfair. His response was that this is how they make their money and that I should expect to try 4-5 times before winning. That was very disappointing to hear, especially when kids are involved. My kids keeper wanted to try and won only 2 prize. At this point I spend $30 fo a toys I know cost less than $1 each. It felt like the machines are intentionally designed to make you lose money rather than give a fair chance to win. I've honestly had much better luck winning prizes at Knott's Berry Farm than here, far better. In the end, I stopped playing and took my kids to MINISO USA, located on the same floor near Macy's, where we were able to buy better-quality toys and plushies for the same amount of money we would have lost at Kiddleton. We were about to exchange some money for tokens but decided to look around before doing so, and boy am I glad we did. We were watching this guy try a few times on the machine until he was one try away from getting it. He ran out of tokens, so we told him we'd watch the machine while he exchanged some more. Within 30 seconds, the Asian guy with a buzz cut (the owner, according to the front desk worker) came over, unlocked the machine, and moved that EXACT toy way back and rearranged the whole machine. I told him that wasn't cool and that we were holding the machine for someone to come back and win. He didn't care and just walked away. People typically spend $5-10 or more for a toy worth a few cents, and if you're going to be this greedy or "xiao qi" in Mandarin, forget about it.
