I have taught here for a few years and absolutely loved the environment and support! The students and parents are all so friendly. This year my 8 year old was accepted on a performance dance team and started ballet class. He is really blossoming thanks to the care he is given by his instructors! Miss Susan takes time to help him and encourage him in class. He is the only boy in his class (but there a several at the studio) but feels included like everyone else! Awesome place! I've been going there for years. Great dance classes for my kids at Kick It Up. They have so many dance classes to choose from, Ballet, Tap, Jazz, Hip Hop, even Hula. I bought a groupon so my girls and I could come here for Zumba, and it did not disappoint. Karen, especially, does a great Zumba workout, and my girls are liking it so much! They are 14 and 15, and they look forward to coming everyday. We come about four times a week. They do offer different fitness classes in the mornings and evenings including whole body and spin classes. They even offer kids' dance classes. We've been enjoying it so much that we'll probably have to sign up. I just hope it's affordable enough for all of us to join! read more

Trying out this facility to see if I like it. I have taken Judi Thiel's spin class and i am now addicted. Judi is a professional motivator and makes working out something you want to do. She makes everyone laugh and feel comfortable like you are her best friend riding a bike outside next to her yet you get the most incredible workout. I have been going for about a month and I love it. There are a lot of different classes and the instructors are friendly and fun. The prices are also reasonable and the studio is nice. Ive only taken the following classes: Zumba: The instructors are really great and have their own style. Tiffany and Karen are awesome and do a great workout. I have only had one class with Betty and Clarissa but their zumba workouts are a blast and challenging. Cardiosculpt: Great workout/super challenging. Definitely sore the next day. I'm a dancer at kick it up (and always have been) and I love it!! I've been dancing here for 9 years. Kick it up is fun and I've learned and grown so much!! I've had so many opportunities like competing, going to conventions and master classes, and participating in every recital and tons more. So happy with this dance studio! My girls have been going here since they were very little and have pretty much grown up here. There are so many different types of dance classes offered so there is something for everyone. My youngest, who started dancing here at 3 and is now almost 13, discovered her love for hula and has been on the hula performance team for 3 years now. My oldest started with only one class when she was 6 years old, and is now 15 years old in unlimited classes and is competing for her second year. So far, so good! I've enrolled my son in the Boys Hip-Hop class and the instructor is great with kids! Very patient and makes them feel comfortable from the beginning. I loved the fact that they let him try the first class for free so that he could see if he would like it or not. He is now on his 3rd class and, he loved it! We have been clients of Kick it up for about two years now. My daughter has taken about three different classes and we really do enjoy it. This is non-competative and works well for exposing your child to things they (may) be intrested in without busting the bank. We have annual enrollment fee of about $100, then its $50 a month for a class a week. If you miss a class you can make it up in another group as long as its not completly booked. Baby girl has enjoyed her classes, here instructor Emi, and her once a year recital. We will continue to drive clear across town to keep it up and kick it up. :) read more

I just got back from my cardio dance party class and I haven't had that much fun working out in a long while! :) Prices are reasonable for the wide variety of classes that they offer ranging from tap to kickboxing. My sisters and I took the Intro to Spin class with Susan last night and had the best time! I've always been so scared and intimidated by spin, but Susan puts your mind at ease. She starts off the class by giving a little background on how she became a spin instructor and she also talks about how spin actually got started. Then she teaches you how to adjust your bike in 3 different areas to get you the best spin class experience. For the last 15 minutes of class, she has you get on the bike and do a few basic spin class routines! She is a great teacher and is so freaking hilarious!! I started going to this studio because I was looking for a dance class for my 4 and 3 year old children. They loved it. The monthly tuition was fair (less than $100 for two girls, once a week). Every week, they dance and exercise to music they know. My 4 year old is definitely picking up dance moves and she feels more confident. My 3 year old is getting used to working with teachers and being in class. She likes to dance more at home now. read more

It took me a while to write a review but I had to compliment the Kick It Up team. Last year during our 1950's inspired Volunteer Banquet at Long Beach Memorial Medical Center- Susan orchestrated an awesome dance performance with Emiliano emceeing the event. Susan and her team are fenomenal performers and choreographers- they were full of energy and creativity. The songs she selected were perfect, the dance routine rocked and of course they all showed up with cool 50's costumes! I highly recommend Susan and the "Kick It Up" team. read more

I take the adult ballet class here and I love it! This class is the highlight of my week. Susan does a great job of reinforcing what we learned in previous classes, as well as adding new elements for us to work on. I really enjoy getting my fellow classmates too! I don't understand why this studio doesn't have more reviews. The teachers are great with kids, and their parents!! They work with the kids that need extra help. Two recitals a year, for the kids to perform their stuff. An excellent check-in (key pass), ability to makeup for missed classes. Emi is awesome, acting class is great for kids, too! Kick it up dance studio is the best! I go twice a week with a coworker of mine and we do spin, spin core or spin upper body with Judi, who is the absolute BEST! Her music is great, she is always so motivated and it's contagious! I always walk out feeling like I got my A$$ kicked- but in a good way. I love Kick it Up!!! I belong to Fitness 19, but it doesn't offer classes. I run and go to the gym, but I like to take a class once per week and Kick-It-Up fills the void. The classes are really great! I've taken spin, spin and lift, and a total body workout class. I bought a pass on Yelp and Groupon and when I finish with the deals, I will sign up! The people who take the classes are very nice and friendly, not territorial like you find at a gym sometimes. I also like the spin class, especially the spin and lift which was part spin, part lifting weights. Sometimes an hour long straight spin class is too long so this breaks it up a bit while giving you a full body workout. The instructors are great and innovative. Kick-It-Up is a wonerful alternative to over crowded, dirty, 24-hour gym classes. read more

Enrolled my daughter thru the city of Lakewood into their Shining Stars Musical class and it was underwhelming at best. It appears that they are really into their established dance classes and their Shining Star and Pop/Rock Singer classes are just extra side classes. From the beginning there was no introduction by the teacher to the parents, the kids were put into a separate other room that the parents were not allowed in. They said that this was to prevent shyness of the kids but yet there was never any kind of verbal report after by the teacher on what was going on or what the goal was or even what was accomplish that day in class. There is alot of activity in this place with all the other dance classes going on and you can see that this is their main priority. The kicker was when we showed up for a scheduled class and the place was empty except for a person at the front desk and we were told that the days class had been canceled because EVERYONE had gone to some special dance competition. We were tuned away with other parents and kids in our class but we were all a little disturbed that we did not even get a courtesy call that class was to be canceled that day and thinking about it if this was such a important dance competition I assume this would have been on their calendar and we could have been told at the last weeks class that there was to be no class the next week but that was par because the teacher for this class that I saw never communicated with any parent on what was going on from class to class. In a nut shell, if your going there to enroll in their "dance programs" I'm sure you will be fine because the instructors, parents and kids all look hard core and really into it but if your looking to get into the Lakewood sponsored class don't expect much. By the way, My 7 year old did have fun while in class so I'm just looking at it form a parents perspective that this program could be improved upon. read more

We just had my daughter's 4th birthday party here. The theme was Pineapple Princess Hula. There were 2 teenage girls running the party. They were terrific! They gave the girls stick-on earrings, painted glitter polish on their nails,sprinkled fairy dust in their hair, and pinned in giant flower hair clips they could keep. Then the girls chose their hula skirts and learned to hula! They had a blast. When they got bored hula-ing, the instructors had them dance different, fun dances. Then we had cake and opened presents. The gift bags were the best. Purses with iridescent hearts on them, chock full of themed, age-appropriate gifts. I didn't have to do much but show up. It was great! read more

I just finished my 20 Groupon classes plus 1st free class. Judi does a fun Cardio Sculpt class - every class is always different. She usually does a total body workout with an emphasis on a certain body part - upper, lower or core. She doesn't repeat moves too often and a lot of exercises I've not seen anywhere else. Heidi's fusion Spin class flies by as we switch between the bikes and weight workout. I agree with the reviewer who said the bikes are old and most of them rusty. The room is very small and when it is a nearly full class it gets very cramp and smelly; part of the problem is that the clients need to wear anti-perspirant/deodorant! It's hard to work out when I'm inhaling someone's odor for an entire hour. There are a lot of fans but they don't help with the smell; if anything they help to blow the odor in my direction making it worse for me and my nose. When a lot of people show up, there is not enough floor space in the bike room for everyone to work out off the bikes. Barre class wasn't all that challenging. Dance studios usually have at least intermediate barre workouts. It was also 10 minutes late to start even though I was there a few minutes early. I noticed a lot of client's coming in late so the instructor started late waiting for them so it must be a habit but it's not fair to those who are on time. I got a 50 minute workout even though it's supposed to be an hour long class. I also did not like having to go next door to grab equipment and obviously having to return them next door at the end of class. The room was also very small and some of us had to leave equipment out in the hallway. I noticed several other instructors also start 10 minutes late. There also needs to be a lock on the restrooms! Several times, I was walked in on because there are retarded people who don't know how to knock on a door! This would not happen if there is a working lock on the door. It is difficult to use the toilet when I have no privacy!!! Most of their classes require you to bring your own mats but they have loan-er mats which I did not know about until I had a few classes left.... 2 stars for the 2 awesome instructors Judi and Heidi. read more

Our experience with the studio started with a comedy improv class thru the city of Lakewood. My then 9 yo daughter enjoyed it so much that she tried out for the performance troupe. She was chosen, so we added that and a pop rock singing class to her schedule. The people at the studio are like an extended family and we love it. This year there is no more pt, but show choir instead so she opted to try tap and now I catch her tapping everywhere we go. She even sings herself to sleep to my mom's enjoyment. The classes have helped her come out of her shell and display more self confidence and this is priceless. Her teacher, Miss Mary has been instrumental in this. Miss Stacy and Miss Tiffany have been wonderful helping us newbies navigate the team app and I am grateful to them. Miss Grace is my fixer in directing me to answers to all my questions. Miss Susan is like the energizer bunny who never stops and all in the best interests of the students. She is amazing. read more

I LOVE this place!! my boyfriend and I went last night to the Intro to Spin class-- AWESOME! It's taught by Jan who is super informative without being overpowering. She definitely gets you excited to ride! It's a very small class (I think she said 12 bikes) and the room is clean and fresh. Jan walked us through the history of spinning, the bike mechanics, we adjusted the bike to fit each person, she talked about using heart monitors and about 10 mins before the class was over - the lights turned off, the music started bumping & we were riding! she showed us a few techniques they do in the actual spin class.. I'm so pumped to take a Spin Class at Kick It Up! The pricing is definitely reasonable and you get a more personal class-- how can you beat that?! Plus if you take the Intro to Spin, pay $10, you get a free class so it's like 2 classes in one- you get to learn how to ride the bike & then you GET TO RIDE IT! ;D I'm stoked! definitely recommend this place ;] read more
