This new dance studio and ballet company is a blessing to our family. Unfortunately Covid and a…read moreserious back injury left my daughter without a studio for the last year and a half. We visited Premier Dance and met the owners Mr. David and Mrs. Renee. Right away they took my daughter under their wing and created classes for her to start dancing again. They are a breath of fresh air and extremely talented duo. My daughter is now taking classes 3 days a week and we love all of the different teachers and genres they have to offer. Wish this could have been our studio when she was little due to the extremely professional training she is receiving now, But happy that her teen dance years will be with Premier Dance.

My daughter was a part of another much larger program in Long Beach for 4 years prior to coming to this ballet school in Los Alamitos. After last season she did not want to return to ballet. She wanted to quit. We truly honor our kids wishes and so I was ready to let it go but then I did some research and found LABS. So far my daughter LOVES it. If you truly do not love the art I believe that you are never going to push yourself to your potential. Renee teaches my daughter and she is so kind, thoughtful and most importantly invested in my daughter being the best version of herself. She takes the time to correct her without making her feel bad about herself. She respects where she is at. To have a studio like this is Los Al is very rare - their values align with ours and to have a role model that my daughter can identify is worth its weight in gold. I am excited that my daughter is finding joy in ballet again and I hope that she continues for years. Our experience at our old institution was so impersonal and often times rooted in fear of not following rules or asking for flexibility. To come here is so refreshing but more so what the world needs more of - a place to feel like you belong. Thank you Renee for allowing my child to be a child and bringing the joy of dance back to her life. Running a small business like this is not easy but adds so much value to our communities and it is equally important to support them back.

First, I'll say this school has solid dancers in it - if your child is a good dancer, is wanting to…read moredo this in middle/high school, compete, etc; I do believe this school would be a good choice for you. If your child is starting out in dance, you are looking to get them "into" dance RUN FROM THIS PLACE AS FAST YOU CAN! They are HORRIBLE. Flat out the worst business I've dealt with regarding my kids outside school activities. So my daughter is 5 - she is horrible at dance - who cares, she is 5. The teachers there are not very patient with the younger kids - and they mix kids with 3 years of age gap, so when you get to 5 you are in class with 7 year olds...could be almost 8. So there is an obvious gap in just skill set and physical ability. Now, the only reason I pay this school any money for a 5 year old is to literally give her exposure to dance and to take cute photos at a recital with her dressed up to put on our xmas card or whatever...thats it. And I'd assume their mission as a dance business for a 5 year old would be relatively the same (overcharge for costumes, that I'm sure they get a cut of and charge every human being full price for a ticket to the recital, even my 2 year old --- all that is fine! And maybe the kids goes on to be a good dancer...maybe) My daughter has missed very few classes over the last semester - we have been there loyally and consistently which is half the battle . We come to find out last week, from the teacher that the school somehow decided, without us knowing, to pull my daughter from the recital b/c she just wasn't good enough...we found out b/c my daughter was at dance practice and all the girls got their costumes for the recital but her! She was the only one that didn't have it...and come to find out the teacher said, well its ok, b/c she isn't in the recital...we were surprised by this b/c no one ever told us about this, and the teacher said that is why there was no costume . Of course we go to admin and they said we never measured her for the costume and that she could go to the lower class (3-5 year olds) which she had been in for 2 years already and hadn't been learning that routine for the upcoming recital (but they said its fine, shell be good. Huh? How about just tell me you don't give a F*ck but you want my money The school never had any intentions of putting her in. The best part is when my wife confronted them, 1 of the admin tried to cover it up and the other 1 basically said she remembered them measuring her months ago for this, in front of them...and they were the ones who measured her...wtf?!? Not only was my daughter embarrassed , her self confidence was effected a bit - no biz should do that to a child...especially a biz focused on children. We pulled her because this school doesn't' deserve another penny from us and I hope everyone who reads this sends their young aspiring dancers elsewhere. Also, as other reviews have said - their teachers are meh - the instructor came up to my wife and flexed her Masters of Ballet as a something that would quality her to pull my 5 year old from a dance recital...I won't even say what I think about that...

Our oldest daughter took a one-time class here with her Girl Scout troop…read more It was just one class, but I was profoundly impressed. Strong Dance is located in a strip mall on Walker Street in Cypress. There's plenty of free lot parking nearby. When you walk in, you'll most likely be greeted by a friendly person at the desk just to the left. The studio itself is deceivingly large. There are a few dance rooms and TONS of sitting room for parents and siblings. It's clean. And tastefully decorated with large framed black and white photos of their students with their dance biographies. Our daughter brought her own jazz shoes, but the studio also had some available for the girls to borrow. Ms. Esther was our troop's patient and enthusiastic instructor. All the girls seemed to enjoy her style of teaching. If we didn't live quite so far away, this would be a spectacular place for our daughters to learn and grow!

Two years ago I wrote a review about how true this studio was to its motto - Building Confident…read moreKids. Now, I think the owner Rachel should consider changing it to "Building Confident Kids, and then Breaking them Down." Last season, after being at the studio for four years, my 12-year-old daughter was frustrated in class because she felt like she wasn't improving like she wanted to. She thought it was because there were too many girls being promoted before they were ready. I heard this same complaint from other parents. The teachers were great, but the over-promotion lowered the quality of the classes. I grew to believe that the focus at the studio was on the younger dancers, and that the promotion helped them feel motivated to stick with dance. While I wasn't happy about how this younger-child focus served my older child, I respected that it was the owner's choice to make with her business. I sat down with the owner Rachel, who I considered a friend, to discuss my daughter's frustration. She said she could relate, and that when she hit that point at her own studio as a kid, she started taking a few classes at other studios. She said my daughter might consider that soon. It was an unusual suggestion, although I told her I appreciated her giving her blessing. I appreciated that she was willing to acknowledge the limitations of her studio, and willing to suggest a solution that would allow my daughter to transition to the next level with dignity. At the beginning of this season, my daughter said she did want to try one class at another studio. Since I already had Rachel's blessing to try a class at another studio (which I didn't technically need since there was no policy against it), I let her know via email that we were doing this, but that we were still planning on staying at her studio. About two months later, I received a surprising and carefully worded email from Rachel. She was "disenrolling" my daughter, effective that day, for trying a class elsewhere. After 4 1/2 years at the studio, without any problems leading up to that, she was kicked out without discussion. For 4 1/2 years, my daughter strived to be a role model at the studio, with Rachel often requesting her to apprentice the classes she taught. I paid by auto pay or prepay consistently, volunteered backstage, and was supportive of the environment she claimed she wanted to create. It was a shock to our family, and to many others at the studio. But, I'd been warned by multiple parents that Rachel held grudges against dancers who tried classes at other studios. On the one hand, I regretted not listening to the advice to keep it a secret. The silver lining, though, is that I am no longer lining the pockets of a woman who would treat a reliable client this way - let alone a child! I give one extra star because the teachers were very good.

The past year my 9-year-old daughter has been attending "Center Stage." As she had no dance…read moreexperience we enrolled her in an introductory Hip Hop class, which she loved. Soon after, she invited 3 of her school friends, who also attended Newcomb Academy to join the class. After the first year's recital they all decided to continue Hip Hop, additionally adding a Jazz class. Before I continue with this review, I must confirm we have had no issues with her dance instructor "Miss Emily." Emily was always kind, patient, fun and well equipped to instruct multiple dancers ranging in ages 7-9 years old. My daughter and her friends adored Emily and were very sad to leave her class. Unfortunately, a few weeks ago we had a very unprofessional, shocking incident occur with Leslie, one of the owners. When I picked my daughter up after class, I noticed that one of the dancers in her class was crying uncontrollably. Another mom from class was trying to comfort the girl while she waited for her mother. I walked over to see if I could be any assistance, but she was crying so badly she was unable to speak and tell me what occurred. Soon after my daughter and one of her friends who was trying the class to possibly join had no problem telling me what occurred. They let me know that while Miss Emily was changing the studio music Leslie took it upon herself to walk over to the classroom and reprimand, and yell at the class, and call out the student in tears for standing behind the studio barre. She screamed at the little girl to come over to her, sternly yelled in her face that she was "disrespectful, breaking the rules by standing behind the barre. She demanded that the little girl apologize to her. Additionally, she told the class "This was her studio, if they weren't going to listen, she would cancel the class, and they were all disrespectful." This resulted in the little girl running to the restroom, locking herself in the bathroom and crying for the remainder of the class. My daughter let me know that you could hear this little girl crying in the bathroom through the music the remainder of the class. Sadly, my daughter said Miss Emily, who was trying to comfort the little girl told her "Don't worry, Miss Leslie has made me cry before too." My daughter and her friends told me they feared the "old, mean lady" and felt so bad for their dance friend. Yelling at a child is NEVER acceptable, especially in a business setting. I have never once gotten complaints from Miss Emily, Leslie, or any of the other owners that this class had disciplinary problems or any other issues for that matter. Why Leslie thought it was ok to yell at the class, with empty threats and aggressive behavior I will never understand. Another mother that was present at pick-up admitted that she has seen Leslie yell at staff and dancers 2x prior to this incident. ARE YOU KIDDING ME!!! It's clear to me that Leslie has been getting away with abusive behavior for YEARS. I am truly disappointed that her behavior has been overlooked for so long. I started to re-read older Yelp reviews and realized she has several negative reviews. I am so sad I didn't investigate reviews further before taking my daughter and asking multiple friends of hers to join this studio. When I wrote the studio to let them know I would be canceling classes due to this incident and that I wanted a refund on my recital costume they responded with "Your check is in the mail." There was no apology, no explanation, nothing. We were clearly just a number to the studios pocket-book. Myself, and 4 other families have taken our children out of this school due to this incident. I would not recommend this studio! If you are ok with the potential of your child being screamed at or embarrassed in front of a class, this would be a great studio for you. It only took one incident for me to know this type of behavior is not ok. I really hope Emily realizes she doesn't need to put up with this type of abusive behavior and finds another studio to share her talent with.i
