I do not recommend this academy. In February we signed up for our daughter. By then we were a bit…read morelate for the sign up for summer recital so we couldn't. So whenever they practice for the recital my daughter was made to feel very left out. The instructor told my daughter that she can do stretches or do whatever she wanted or join the dance. Fact that the instructor pointed that out made my daughter felt like she didn't belong. Paying for the recital or not, every tuition paying dancer should be part of the routine. They have my credit card in their system and charge automatically every month which in the beginning we appreciated because we didn't have to remember to pay or wait for a bill and all that hassle. However, this academy not once sent out updates or announcements of any kind. I checked my spam/junk mail as well as regular mail. They say they do send email but we never got it. Suddenly tuition increased by $30 this month. Also we just found out there is an annual registration fee although there was no additional need for any type of "re-registration." They just simply charge it every July. The reason it's not a 1 star is because after the issue arises they refunded this month tuition smoothly as we decided to pull my daughter from this academy. And while there my daughter didn't mention other issues aside from feeling excluded from the Moana dance. We got quoted with another academy close by for our daughter where tuition is a lot more reasonable and she will be starting there soon.

4.8 / 5 We…read moreabsolutely love this ballet school and could not have asked for a better first dance experience for our daughter. From the teachers to the overall structure, everything feels thoughtful, supportive, and family-friendly. The Huntington Beach location is fantastic... beautiful, safe, clean, and in a great area. Our daughter attends one of the school's evening ballet classes, which can sometimes be a busy window for family schedules, but it allows both of us to be present and support her. One of the standout aspects is the communication. Being able to easily text and communicate directly with the director has been amazing. Any time we've had a question, comment, or concern, responses have been quick, kind, and helpful. That level of accessibility and care really sets this school apart and gives parents a lot of peace of mind. Miss Nix is truly wonderful. She is patient, kind, direct and fantastic with the girls. Our daughter absolutely adores her, and that relationship alone means everything to us. Another huge plus is the flexibility with makeup classes. Because weekday evenings can be challenging for us, she often attends a morning makeup class later in the week with Miss Rebekah, who is also wonderful. She now happily believes she has "two ballet teachers," which really speaks to how welcoming and consistent the environment is. This December, our daughter participated in her first-ever recital, the Starry Bravo Bash, which she worked so hard toward. The recital participation was optional and very reasonably priced for what was included. A beautiful tutu, leotard, crown, a star plush toy, and a performance video. Monthly tuition and registration fees also feel very fair. I also really appreciated how each week the same choreography was practiced and built upon in preparation for the recital, as well as the online practice video provided on the school's website. Being able to practice at home helped her feel confident and excited. That was such an incredible additional tool. The Bravo Bash event as a whole felt a bit logistically hectic. While we were asked to arrive around 9:50 AM for a 10:00 performance, her class did not perform until close to 11:00. The venue was very tight and crowded, and because all classes performed the same song and choreography, it became a long wait for young children and families. As families left after their child's performance, the audience gradually became smaller, which felt a bit sad for the later-performing students. One thing we especially wish had been possible was a brief moment with her teacher after her very first recital. We brought flowers for Miss Nix and had hoped to take a photo or share a quick moment, but the teachers were continuously rotating between classes for hours. While we fully understand the scale of the event, the personal connection felt a bit lost in the shuffle. In the future, it might be nice if performances could be spread out in a way that allows teachers and students that special moment together. That said, I did love that when it was our class's turn, the first two rows were reserved so families could sit close and watch their children perform, such a thoughtful touch! My only other small, personal preference I would mention is around dress code and overall visual structure. I truly appreciate how relaxed and welcoming the environment is for young children (especially at this age) but at times I found myself wishing for a slightly more consistent, polished appearance. I grew up in a more traditional ballet environment, so this is simply a stylistic preference. When we attended the recital and saw all of the teachers in their matching outfits, it looked so beautiful, professional, and cohesive. That level of presentation really elevated the experience, and it would be lovely to see that same sense of visual structure carried into regular classes as students move up in levels. Our daughter is already excited for the spring recital and asking what comes next. She's even been encouraged to move into a higher-level class, which makes us so proud! Overall, we truly love and adore this school and most definitely recommend them. The teachers are caring, communication is excellent, class times and locations are plentiful, and the pricing feels fair. Our experience with the school itself has been overwhelmingly positive and recommend them to anyone beginning their ballet journey. We're grateful to be part of this dance community and look forward to continuing. We love you Tutu School HB!
