I don't usually like to give negative reviews, but do not send your kids here! I saw that other reviewers mentioned the same problem, but my daughter wanted to give it a try since her friends go to the school. I decided to pay for my 3 kids ($20/each) to do a trial class after talking to the staff. We showed up the day of the trial and my kids were completely neglected and ignored for most of the class! They participated in a 10min warm up and then stood against the wall the rest of the time!! My kids looked so sad watching the others. I finally had to pull them out about 10mins before class was over! When I talked to the staff, they explained that there was a last min decision to dance for a Halloween party and needed to have their kids practice. Fine...just don't schedule my kids for a trial when you're not going to actually let them try out the class! I talked to TWO different staff members who both gave different excuses without resolution. Each said they had to talk to someone else about it. I asked them to call me to schedule a different trial because I didn't feel it was fair to charge us for a trial we didn't actually get to try. NO ONE has reached out to me since. Feels like they are just there to scam you out of your money! Don't bother and go elsewhere! read more

My daughter started taking pre hip hop I when she was 4.5 years old.  She cried the first 15 min during the trial class.  Ms Dorothy was very nice and supportive.  In order to make my daughter feel at ease, she asked me to stand next to my daughter.  After class, I asked my daughter if she would come back.  She said yes!!!  All thanks to the warm-up exercise because Ms Dorothy made it fun for the kids.  My daughter has been with Charade ever since; it has been 2.5 years now.  She joined the mini competition team last season. My daughter used to be so shy, now she's greatly comfortable with her teammates and even with other students in different dance teams!  More importantly, she's not afraid to perform in front of a large audience!  Not only the kids had amazing team bonding, the parents also got to build close friendship with one another.  I'm super glad to get to know these wonderful parents!!   I would recommend your kid(s) to join the competition team if he/she loves to dance.  My daughter and her teammates did a terrific job!! They won many awards and recognitions (double platinum award, 2nd place for hiphop mini team category, best costume award, got invited for Star Showcase when performing in Vegas, etc....) It was a fun experience.  I'm signing her up for another competition season this August.  I highly recommend Charade Dance Academy because there are many opportunities for your kids to perform in front of a large group of audiences.  We did performances at Asian Garden Mall for Christmas, at Fountain Valley fall festival, at Strawberry festival in Garden Grove, at Knotts Berry Farm, and many more.. There are also many fun events throughout the year as well-  Halloween trick or treat, Christmas, Lunar New Year celebration, beach bonfire, etc.. Before I signed my daughters up for dance class, I read the reviews and came across a "set" of negative reviews that just happened to discuss and express the same ISSUE. It was all posted during the same time frame as well (very suspicious). This was an obvious red flag that those negative reviews did not truly capture the experience at this dance studio on a daily basis. So I took both my daughters there for ballet, and I would have to say the teachers and staff at the academy have ignited the passion for dance to my children in a NURTURING and geniune way possible. I went here for the KPOP classes the other day because I found them on IG. I've taken a lot of dance classes at various studios, and I can honestly say the instructors are really good at what they do. The staff is also really friendly and makes enrolling in classes very simple. Prices/tuition for classes is pretty standard compared to other studios, but I've definitely paid a lot more at other studios, so it's actually a good deal when you enroll in multiple classes. The studio itself is also very nice. It was recently renovated and has a LOT of space to dance, which is fantastic. Other studios that are much smaller can get really hot when dancing with a mask, but Charade is still very comfortable even with large class sizes. I've talked to the studio owner and instructors as well and they're open to requests for specific KPOP choreographies, which is great if you're open to learning new releases or older dances. read more

After trying 3 other dance schools for my kids.... I've finally found "the one", so this review is long overdue.... I have both my daughters attending Hip Hop with Ms. Dorothy for almost 3 years now and they absolutely adore her. They look forward to their classes each week and practice their routines just for fun or to "show off". Being in dance has definitely made them more confident and has given them a reason to be more active. I love that Dorothy is patient with her students no matter how much they cross the line with their behavior. She treats all her students and parents with respect and kindness, which is a big plus in my book. The school itself is very clean and I often find them wiping the mirrors and cleaning the floors in between classes. When my daughter first went to ballet school, I thought she was a lost cause, but after the next few weeks I see her really transforming into a ballerina. You see her focus better and trying her hardest to keep the position. It gives me joy to see her happy and this school really does provide a wonderful experience for her to learn and grow and have fun. We came here looking to learn how to do our wedding first dance. I have never danced before. Ever. Dorothy not only made it doable but fun! We took the extra session and they paid off. I am new to the city and was looking for a yoga class. My girlfriend and I found out that charade was giving out yoga classes. The instructor Dorothy was very friendly and was very welcoming. The facility was clean and nothing was cluttered. I would not think yoga would make me sweat but diffently made me sweat. The worst dance academy I have encountered. I brought my 3 year old daughter for a trail and it was the worst experience. The teacher had no patience with kids specially with mine. She wasn't welcoming at all. At the end of class she called out all the girls to receive a sticker. We left with my daughter crying because she didn't give her one. She felt like she didn't do a good job and that hurt her feelings. I am so glad I am never coming back. The $15 for the trial were not worth it. If you are new and are considering bringing them here save your time and money and don't. No child should ever feel the way my daughter and I felt. read more
