    Kar dance competition 2025

I have been at kick it up for 3 years and have loved it from the beginning. All the teachers and students are really nice, it is really easy to make friends with people there. I have also been on their competition team for 2 years, and have had so much fun hanging out with friends + competing with/against them. Recitals are also extremely fun to watch and dance with your friends.

Isabel is ahhhmazing! This is my 4th time taking a Zumba class in general but first time with her and she killed it! I had a great dance off lol - Got my whole body pumping and sweating :)

My daughters have been coming to Kick It Up for a little over 2 years and love the coaches, friends and dances they learn. They are both members of the competition team and love the experiences of competing.

Receipt indicating location of class at Kick it Up. No mention of virtual.

I appreciate you taking the time to respond to my review. I have included screenshots as reference to my receipt as well as my call to the studio. Thank you again.

Kick it up is our second home. It's a great dance studio, teachers are amazing, the staff very friendly, the owner Susan is very sweet. My daughter has been taking classes for almost 6 years , since she was 3, and see her growing as a dancer makes me so proud of her. Can't wait to see her competing on the Dance team!

The start of the season vs the end of the season.

Our experience at Kick It Up has only gotten better. It has literally changed our lives. Advice for future dance moms: Choose your community well. Tomorrow we will attend the team banquet with our dance family for our 3rd year. This group is truly special. We are not an exclusive clique of best friends- we even have our fair share of drama- we are together to support and empower our children. We follow our beloved Miss Susan in creating a positive and accepting community. #wearekickitup #waymorethanjustdanceclasses

Yes, it's a gym.... Yes it has new equipment but it feels run down for 2 big reasons…read more 1.) for the last year I have been paying extra for the add on of the recovery room, in which Chuze shows commercials all the time advertising HYDRO THERAPY. These machines are great, very popular and everyone who pays extra wants this item and this item only. Nothing else..... nobody wants to wrap their legs in gigantic compression boots.... But yet they have 4 of these machines. They never break because nobody uses them. Everyone pays for the hydro therapy but yet they only have 2 of them and 1 is always broken.... The reason, is because this is all people want out of the recovery room. But yet 1 of the Hydro machines is always broken, never fixed . instead of using membership fees to buy a new one they rely on a repair man who never shows up, and when he does, only has it fixed for a day. What's the point of having a recovery studio if the only thing people want, (HYDRO THERAPY) is never available? 2.) everyone likes to use the stair masters. It's popular now, nobody really uses elliptical's, except older people who can't be hard on their bodies. So what does Chuze do???? They have 17 ellipticals which only ever 3 are being used and 6 stair masters of which one is always broken and all 5 are always in use. A manager with his finger on the pulse of his building should see this, and rotate out unused equipment and replacing it with what's needed more of,..... like the stair masters there's always a wait for.... For months now. This should be the nicest gym out there.... That's why I joined. They are busy with members.... where is all the money going?

I WISH I could give more stars, I really do, because the staff is very polite, friendly, and…read moreattentive and the gym itself is clean and the equipment (aside from the "out of order" machines) is new and in good shape. But there's just too many annoying issues for me to give a fully positive rating/review. I chose Chuze over other gyms because of their "Recovery Room" - SPECIFICALLY, the hydro massage chairs. They're fantastic. But at this location, one out of the two chairs that they have is ALWAYS BROKEN. I'm not exaggerating when I say "ALWAYS." Even when they DO decide to fix it (several MONTHS after it breaks down), it will work for a few days then break down again and then we go back to waiting months for it to be repaired. So there's only ONE chair ever in working order so I never use it because I come to the gym with my boyfriend and we want to be able to BOTH use the hydro chair after our workout and that's not possible. Ever. The equipment, like I said, is decent, but when a machine DOES break down, it takes FOREVER to get it fixed. They put these cutsey signs on the broken equipment saying it "pulled a hammy" and will be back up super-duper fast! Nope. There's a stationary bike that had been down for MONTHS and still has that dumb sign on it. Last thing I want to mention that I find SUPER obnoxious (and I KNOW for a fact other people do as well) is their "We're closing in x number of minutes" warnings. In the last hour, they do the warning announcements every 15 minutes. Is that seriously necessary??? No. And the announcements are done through their PA system and they're LOUD and before every announcement, they TAP the microphone several times (like a "testing, testing" thing?) and it's just loud and abrasive and irritating as all get-out. Mixing the negatives in with their good points just results in a very overall "meh" gym.

This post is in response to Christina P's 11/2025 review…read more I am a studio parent who was present for this "final incident" referenced by Christina P. and whose child was directly involved, I felt it was important to add some context because I feel this parent's comments are retaliatory. The initial poster failed to include details of what happened. The children had been participating in a relay race followed by a pizza party. This poster's child was frustrated because my son, who is still developing his gross motor skills, was not fast enough for her and she felt he caused their relay team to lose. In response, she had a meltdown and threw pizza at my child's face. She is a sweet girl and I understand that children have big feelings at this age, but it's also true that actions have consequences. She did not apologize to him afterward, and in Taekwondo, integrity and respect are core values we take very seriously. This academy is first and foremost a discipline-based martial arts center, not a daycare, play gym, or therapy environment. The expectations for behavior, emotional regulation, and respect are part of the reason many of us choose this school. We want our children to learn structure, resilience, responsibility, and how to manage disappointments in safe and appropriate ways. Master Cynthia handled the situation exactly the way an experienced martial arts instructor should. She calmly removed the child from the group, asked her to sit with her parent, and invited her to return when calm. Poster's child was never left to cry alone. This is simply not true. With 10-15 young children in the room and food being served, this was the safest and most reasonable response. It is not the instructor's job to provide emotional counseling during class, and in a martial arts environment, stepping out to reset is a normal, age-appropriate boundary. I also want to speak to the comment about the school not being a "safe place." I have never once felt unsafe bringing my child here -- actually, the opposite is true. This academy has been one of the most positive, consistent, and community-oriented places in my son's life. We have students at the studio who began at age 3 or 4 and are now teenagers with black belts. I am incredibly proud to watch these kids grow into disciplined leaders in their schools and communities. Children are raised here. Families stay for years. That doesn't happen in a place that is unsafe or neglectful. Master Cynthia is a fifth-degree black belt who has spent over 30 years teaching children. She is firm, fair, and exceptional with young students. She sets boundaries with love, holds kids accountable, and teaches them values that matter: integrity, respect, self-control, and responsibility for their actions. These are qualities I want in the person teaching my child martial arts. The children absolutely love her and she has been an incredible influence in my young child's life as well as many of the other kids at our studio. I am sorry this family had a difficult moment. But from a fellow parent who witnessed the incident and whose child was affected, I feel strongly that this review does not reflect the reality of what happened, nor does it reflect the culture, safety, or professionalism of this school. Our experience here has been overwhelmingly positive, and I would recommend this academy without hesitation.

The instruction our 6 year received relied on threats, exaggerated consequences, and punitive language that caused unnecessary distress. We went here for over a year. We encouraged being reprimanded for inappropriate behavior for our child, hoping for it to be a good learning environment. We were wrong. During our last and final incident, our daughter was told to "get out" of class and that she was going to be "fired", an alarming choice of words for a six-year-old. She cried alone on the mat until the Grandmaster stepped in and we left, and there was no follow-up from her instructor to check on her wellbeing or help her learn from the situation. The written response we later received after we terminated our contract only reinforced the lack of child-development understanding and professionalism. As a family, we do not feel safe with our young children being instructed by Master Cynthia. She is dismissive at best. Additionally, the facility is worn down, the bathrooms are consistently smell and dirty, and the overall environment feels neglected--concerning for a children's athletic space. We can't recommend this academy. Families looking for a supportive, developmentally appropriate martial arts program should look elsewhere.

The environment is welcoming, supportive, and most importantly, safe in every way. As a woman, that matters more than it should, but here we are, still at that point in this dumb world, unfortunately. I have never once felt uncomfortable working out there. The gym itself has six stations, which makes it feel like a semi-private training experience and all of the training is with free weights. Every workout is tailored specifically to me, which is a huge benefit. I'm a former ballerina with injuries and fibromyalgia, so I need a lot of modification in my training, depending on the day. They always meet me where I am at and we adjust as needed. They also still manage to keep things challenging when I express wanting to push further but it is always in a way that feels safe and productive. One thing I especially appreciate, coming from a dance background, is how much they focus on body mechanics. Dirk, Chenell, and Emily don't just tell you what to do or demo it once and walk away. They actually take the time to explain what's happening in your body, how to move correctly, and why it matters. Over the past almost five years, I've gotten noticeably stronger and my body has changed for the better but beyond that, it's had a real impact on my mental health, too. Showing up here feels good; so good, that I recommend the gym to many of my friends. I've been going a couple times a week for about two years and have taken Pilates at multiple studios. I genuinely love it, but if you want to be humbled, take Vanessa's class. The moves look easy, she does them with witchcraft-level ease, and five minutes later I'm sweating and questioning my life choices. No two classes are ever the same, which I deeply appreciate because repeating the same Pilates routine is a fast track to boredom. Vanessa's energy is unmatched. She's not there to be a Pilates influencer (praise the Lord); no matching Lululemon sets, no makeup, very principal Trunchbull vibes (but in a good way). She commands the room and has zero hesitation calling people out for chatting during class, which honestly just adds to the experience. It's a great workout every single time, and I truly feel like I get my money's worth. Some gyms need to be updated, have broken weights or workout machines and dirty bathrooms/pools. The signatures or a select few are really nice. It's a little annoying. Soon after, she invited 3 of her school friends, who also attended Newcomb Academy to join the class. After the first year's recital they all decided to continue Hip Hop, additionally adding a Jazz class. Before I continue with this review, I must confirm we have had no issues with her dance instructor "Miss Emily." Emily was always kind, patient, fun and well equipped to instruct multiple dancers ranging in ages 7-9 years old. My daughter and her friends adored Emily and were very sad to leave her class. Unfortunately, a few weeks ago we had a very unprofessional, shocking incident occur with Leslie, one of the owners. When I picked my daughter up after class, I noticed that one of the dancers in her class was crying uncontrollably. Another mom from class was trying to comfort the girl while she waited for her mother. I walked over to see if I could be any assistance, but she was crying so badly she was unable to speak and tell me what occurred. Soon after my daughter and one of her friends who was trying the class to possibly join had no problem telling me what occurred. They let me know that while Miss Emily was changing the studio music Leslie took it upon herself to walk over to the classroom and reprimand, and yell at the class, and call out the student in tears for standing behind the studio barre. She screamed at the little girl to come over to her, sternly yelled in her face that she was "disrespectful, breaking the rules by standing behind the barre. She demanded that the little girl apologize to her. Additionally, she told the class "This was her studio, if they weren't going to listen, she would cancel the class, and they were all disrespectful." This resulted in the little girl running to the restroom, locking herself in the bathroom and crying for the remainder of the class. My daughter let me know that you could hear this little girl crying in the bathroom through the music the remainder of the class. Sadly, my daughter said Miss Emily, who was trying to comfort the little girl told her "Don't worry, Miss Leslie has made me cry before too." My daughter and her friends told me they feared the "old, mean lady" and felt so bad for their dance friend. Yelling at a child is NEVER acceptable, especially in a business setting. I have never once gotten complaints from Miss Emily, Leslie, or any of the other owners that this class had disciplinary problems or any other issues for that matter. Why Leslie thought it was ok to yell at the class, with empty threats and aggressive behavior I will never understand. Another mother that was present at pick-up admitted that she has seen Leslie yell at staff and dancers 2x prior to this incident. ARE YOU KIDDING ME!!! It's clear to me that Leslie has been getting away with abusive behavior for YEARS. I am truly disappointed that her behavior has been overlooked for so long. I started to re-read older Yelp reviews and realized she has several negative reviews. I am so sad I didn't investigate reviews further before taking my daughter and asking multiple friends of hers to join this studio. When I wrote the studio to let them know I would be canceling classes due to this incident and that I wanted a refund on my recital costume they responded with "Your check is in the mail." There was no apology, no explanation, nothing. We were clearly just a number to the studios pocket-book. Myself, and 4 other families have taken our children out of this school due to this incident. I would not recommend this studio! If you are ok with the potential of your child being screamed at or embarrassed in front of a class, this would be a great studio for you. It only took one incident for me to know this type of behavior is not ok. I really hope Emily realizes she doesn't need to put up with this type of abusive behavior and finds another studio to share her talent with.i

First, I'll say this school has solid dancers in it - if your child is a good dancer, is wanting to…read moredo this in middle/high school, compete, etc; I do believe this school would be a good choice for you. If your child is starting out in dance, you are looking to get them "into" dance RUN FROM THIS PLACE AS FAST YOU CAN! They are HORRIBLE. Flat out the worst business I've dealt with regarding my kids outside school activities. So my daughter is 5 - she is horrible at dance - who cares, she is 5. The teachers there are not very patient with the younger kids - and they mix kids with 3 years of age gap, so when you get to 5 you are in class with 7 year olds...could be almost 8. So there is an obvious gap in just skill set and physical ability. Now, the only reason I pay this school any money for a 5 year old is to literally give her exposure to dance and to take cute photos at a recital with her dressed up to put on our xmas card or whatever...thats it. And I'd assume their mission as a dance business for a 5 year old would be relatively the same (overcharge for costumes, that I'm sure they get a cut of and charge every human being full price for a ticket to the recital, even my 2 year old --- all that is fine! And maybe the kids goes on to be a good dancer...maybe) My daughter has missed very few classes over the last semester - we have been there loyally and consistently which is half the battle . We come to find out last week, from the teacher that the school somehow decided, without us knowing, to pull my daughter from the recital b/c she just wasn't good enough...we found out b/c my daughter was at dance practice and all the girls got their costumes for the recital but her! She was the only one that didn't have it...and come to find out the teacher said, well its ok, b/c she isn't in the recital...we were surprised by this b/c no one ever told us about this, and the teacher said that is why there was no costume . Of course we go to admin and they said we never measured her for the costume and that she could go to the lower class (3-5 year olds) which she had been in for 2 years already and hadn't been learning that routine for the upcoming recital (but they said its fine, shell be good. Huh? How about just tell me you don't give a F*ck but you want my money The school never had any intentions of putting her in. The best part is when my wife confronted them, 1 of the admin tried to cover it up and the other 1 basically said she remembered them measuring her months ago for this, in front of them...and they were the ones who measured her...wtf?!? Not only was my daughter embarrassed , her self confidence was effected a bit - no biz should do that to a child...especially a biz focused on children. We pulled her because this school doesn't' deserve another penny from us and I hope everyone who reads this sends their young aspiring dancers elsewhere. Also, as other reviews have said - their teachers are meh - the instructor came up to my wife and flexed her Masters of Ballet as a something that would quality her to pull my 5 year old from a dance recital...I won't even say what I think about that...
