I stopped by here to buy Com Chay for my sister and ended buying some Xi Muoi Me Tac. I asked for half a pound but they packed just over a pound. They are using the same tactics of Vua Kho Bo, over pack items to boost sales. The quality was terrible, lots of sugar and seeds. I can get this quality from the grocery store for a fraction of the price. I will not be coming back. read more

-10 points if possible. My son's "customized cake" cost $70!!! 8 inch, simple vanilla cake. Showed her a picture and this is what she came up with. The sprinkles tasted like it expired 10 years ago (all four of my sugar- loving kids refused to eat it, so that tells you something.) The cake is lop-sided, the cream has an aftertaste. The cake was dry and the ice cream was gooey (hard to mess up vanilla but it was bad). Definitely not worth the money in any way. Just a warning for others considering to get a customized cake from them. A 9" well designed cake at baskin robbin is way cheaper, and there are more flavor selections. Edit: to the owner- I know you never "intended" to make a terrible cake but, the important thing is to acknowledge the possibility that you did. Can you seriously look at this lop-sided, messily decorated cake you made me and claim that if you had paid $70 for this, you would be happy? Yeah, I believe you when you said you made it the day of pick up, but rather you took 10minutes or 1 hour to make this is the bigger question. Plus, when I got there, your helper didn't know what I was talking about. When she called you and realized where the cake was, she didn't even know how to box it. It was a chaotic experience. I'm just saying that if you can't make quality cake while charging quality money, then consider taking them off your menu. read more

I dropped by Kho Bo Cali randomly as I forgot the usual location I went to previously. This is a great spot for snacks! They have a ton of options. The staff was super nice and let me sample a bunch. This was my first visit and support this store after meeting my family. We stopped here to buy some tea for my mother-in-law and some snacks. The customer service and cleanliness were satisfactory. However, after returning to my mother-in-law's house in San Diego, she told me the entire bag of tea we bought expired Tomorrow!!! We bought it on 10/17/2025, and it expired on 10/18/2025. I called the store politely to report the issue and ask how they could help. They replied, 'We are busy right now, we will call you back," but as of today, 10/21/2025, I haven't received a return call. It seems like it's a pattern with this shop. All the complaints about pricing and weighting are true. BE VERY SPECIFIC ABOUT HOW MUCH YOU ARE ASKING FOR. It happened to me today, and it is very disappointing. Asked for a pound, which was $39... came out to over $52. Lady admitted she scooped more and if I was fine with it (AS SHE ALREADY STEALED THE BAG) called the owner, she seemed to understand the situation so hopefully it won't happen again. Not sure if the lady is commission based but shouldn't be cheating like that. read more

If I had seen the reviews here sooner, I would never have come. The young girl seemed nice, but the older lady was absolutely awful. She intentionally weighed out more than the amount I asked for and even complained and pushed the young girl to give me even more. When I asked her to remove some so it matched the amount I wanted, she did it with a visibly annoyed attitude. I only wanted 1lb (half pound of this, half of that) but ended up paying for more than 1.5lbs (supposed to be $35 but ended with $55). I stopped going to Vua Khô Bò because of this kind of pushy upselling, so I decided to give this place a try but it was the exact same thing. I guess that's why the store was completely empty when I got there. I will never ever come back read more

Wanted to support a local business .. but so turned off by the old school aggressive/shady sales tactics. Don't mind the $65 a pound beef jerky but we have a problem when we asked for 1/2 pound and nearly a pound was packed and rang up. They are banking on you not paying attention (trying to ring you up as fast as possible) and/or you won't tell them that you want less. New fav kho bo place!!! I walked in and was immediately greeted. The kind employee promptly gave me many samples to try without me even asking. I can't remember the two jerky items I bought but I asked for their spiciest one and also got a Thai-ish seasoned one. Both items were so flavorful and were exactly what I was looking for. They also have ice cream and I immediately got a scoop of their durian ice cream which was delicious! Creamy and very durian - you can definitely taste real durian in it. I was also encouraged to take my time and look around, it's a much smaller kho bo place than others but it still had great variety. I do wish they had some sort of li hing mui covered gummy rings but that's not a deal breaker for me. I wish I got the employee's name so I could give her a proper shoutout but thank you chi for hooking up this foodie with the amazing jerky and ice cream. I'll be back for sure! read more

I went to the store to support a local business, I asked to try a few different type of beef jerky because there are a few types, and knew what I wanted, the older woman made a nasty comment to her co-worker "it's too expensive for him and I asked too many questions" dammed. This is a typical nasty old asian woman gossip, she should not be in a customer services. I would never return and would definitely not recommend to anyone, unless you're ready to be abused. I was excited to try the beef jerky at this place since they are right next to phoholic. However, their customer service is unacceptable. The old vietnamese lady gave me attitude thinking that I wasn't gonna buy anything and I did the opposite and her attitude changed lol I had the intention to buy something otherwise I wouldn't waste my time coming in. She needs to change her mindset. Not everyone who goes in and tries a few pieces with a few questions will end up not buying anything. It was pretty disappointing. I had higher expection from this place but oh well, maybe I should go back to Vua Kho Bo. At least they are more professional and welcoming. read more

We noticed the Grand Opening 15% off, but we were pleased with the friendly service of the owner as well as the accuracy in weighing. The flavors of their jerkies are tasty. Matcha Night Gone WRONG…read more.. After a delicious pho run, hubby and I were craving something sweet and wanted to try somewhere new. Hubby wasn't feeling the drive to Joe's, so naturally I opened Yelp and started hunting. We stumbled upon this spot located in a pretty busy plaza with restaurants, karaoke, pool tables, and bars, so there's definitely plenty happening around here for a fun night out. Unfortunately... the dessert was where the fun ended. Matcha Shaved Ice + Matcha/Hojicha Soft Serve -- $13.50 | 2/10 I was really looking forward to this one, but unfortunately it was a major miss for me. First, they were already out of red beans at 8pm, so I had to substitute them with waffle crumbs. Not a huge deal, but definitely not what I originally wanted. The bigger issue was the shaved ice itself. A good shaved ice should have that soft, fluffy, almost snow-like texture where the flavor is incorporated throughout the ice rather than feeling like you're just eating a pile of crunchy ice with syrup poured over the top. The best ones almost melt in your mouth and create that creamy, refreshing texture when paired with condensed milk, toppings, or soft serve. This one? Not that. The ice was extremely icy and hard, and it honestly tasted like they just poured matcha-flavored water/syrup over a mountain of ice. The matcha flavor didn't really soak into the shaved ice the way I expected, so instead of getting that smooth matcha flavor throughout every bite, I was getting... ice. The soft serve was probably the "better" part, but even with the matcha and hojicha soft serve mixed in, it couldn't save the shaved ice for me. And the mochi balls? SO squishy. I normally LOVE mochi, but these were not doing it for me tonight. It was fat & it just felt like a fat wet dough-ball. The biggest problem? We threw away more than 3/4 of it. And if you know me, you know I usually have a very hard time wasting dessert, or any food in general. I honestly haven't had a dessert this disappointing in quite some time. Would I come back? Nope. Would I recommend it? Unfortunately, no. Was the plaza fun? Absolutely! Maybe we just caught them on an off night, but based on this experience, I'll be sticking to my other shaved ice spots. Happy Desserts... but tonight, barely.

Be very careful about the quantities and prices when shopping at Kho Bo Cali. I repeatedly asked for only half a pound of each item, and the employee confirmed my request several times. However, she still packed considerably more than I asked for, making my final total much higher than expected. The sales process also felt uncomfortable and pushy. One employee kept offering samples while another spoke to me at the same time, making it difficult to watch what was being packed and shown on the scale. When I questioned the unexpectedly high total, the owner became unfriendly and told me that if I did not want the items, I could put them back myself. I found that response rude and unprofessional. My biggest concern is the receipt. Every product was listed only as "custom item," without the actual product name, weight, quantity, or itemized price. This gives customers no practical way to verify whether the weights and charges are accurate. In my opinion, when a business provides receipts this vague and untraceable, it is a serious red flag. I later noticed that other customers had reported similar concerns, so my experience does not appear to be isolated. The dried snacks and beef jerky were average and comparable to what other stores sell. Given the pushy service, unclear charges, and failure to respect the quantities I requested, I will never return. I strongly recommend avoiding this business altogether. read more

Favorite jerky place in LA now. The young girl (daughter?) helped us out and gave us tons of samples. We took a long time deciding what we want and tried pretty much everything in the store. We eventually got 10+ pounds of jerky and fruit and the young lady was nice enough to give us a free half pound of any jerky (except brisket and some other one). Since then I came back quite a lot of time, also ordered tons of take-outs for picnic and family gatherings. I also liked their variety of buns (banh bao) and I like how they are smaller, and there are 9 in one box, various prices depending on the filling. Overall, good enough banh mi, though they don't give as much veggies inside the banh mi as other places.. Their pork belly is good and you can also order by pounds. Their buns is also good, quick and convenient way to buy for small picnics.

Its creamy and very coconut forward but slightly too sweet for me. I'll be back for the Kumquat Cane as it's more refreshing and balanced, but am excited to try their other options next time.

We wanted to try one of their original sugar cane flavors with the salted lemon, something like Nuoc soda chan. At the same time, it didn't really have a lot of that salted lemony flavor that we're expecting. It tasted more like a regular sugar cane drink, but would definitely come again if I have that sugar cane rush. Service was quick and ordering was easy, and a nice small setting area indoors and outdoors :)
