There was one person doing orders AND cooking, so service was excruciatingly slow. Before I decided to actually leave the food came out. I forgot what the name of the plate was called but on the picture it had fried chicken and fried rice. My plate looked like fried chicken nuggets over rice cooked in soy sauce. Now the rice was good but I couldn't get into the chicken. It was nothing to write home about. I didn't bother taking any of the food home. I really thought that this was the hot spot in the neighborhood, but going back for the second time has got me in mixed feelings. First time on 06/30 and second time on 07/01, the inconsistencies are a deal breaker for me. After the rise and fall of my favorite restaurant in this shopping center. I was hesitant to try anything else in the Scarsdale Village Shopping Center (since it's known throughout the years, new restaurants just don't last over here). This one might be the one to add to that list. On 06/30, I ordered green curry with tofu and vegetables, thai style fried rice with chicken. My mum got the lemon pepper chicken wings. On a Sunday evening, this was the only restaurant that wasn't packed. There was only one couple dining in. We paid and was amazed by how delicious the food was. My mum was thrilled with the flavor of the lemon pepper wings especially the dipping sauce. She raved about how flavorful the shredded chicken was with the thai style fried rice. There was one Asian lady who was very nice and personable. She spoke and gave recommendations. Even the green curry was delicious with the tofu and an abundance of veggies. It was mildly spicy with a bite back, sweet, and smooth broth. The rice was cooked perfectly with the aroma of jasmine rice. My family loved this restaurant instantly and I just knew this was gonna be my go to spot! However, NOT! On 07/01, my mum notified me that she wanted some more lemon pepper wings, same chicken thai style fried rice. I got the red curry with tofu and vegetables. My sister got the chicken cashew dish. The same Asian lady wasn't there and it was a young Hispanic chick who appeared to be rushing me with paying for my food. She didn't greet me, but asked if I was picking up my order. When I got home to eat, my family was deeply disappointed. The thai style fried rice had chicken nuggets bites not the shredded chicken as before. My mum mentioned the flavor was off and the chicken was rubbery cooked in old grease. She didn't receive any dipping sauces for her chicken wings. The red curry tasted just like the green curry; it was slightly sweet, but not spicy, but I didn't receive ANY tofu only a small amount of vegetables. My sister mentioned her dish was nasty since the chicken nuggets bites were again cooked in old grease, too rubbery and almost inedible to consume. The jasmine rice didn't have any aroma, it didn't taste fresh. There were black pieces in it hinting that it could have been old. The restaurant is beautiful on the interior and plenty of space to host a large crowd, but they gotta get right with their consistencies. People will return if they can score that simple task. I've had solid Thai food in Kyle, Texas and Richland, MS, yet in Houston in a populated Asian based neighborhood, I get inconsistent service and the food. Give me a break! Houston is supposed to be popping with international flavors. Come on Kha Thai, do better! I'm highly disappointed with Kha Thai. As my family raved about the service and food here on 6/30. All of a sudden, I wanted to try the hype and see if it'll be the hot spot for future visits. My mom and sister loved their meals, as my mom ordered the wings with chicken fried rice and my sister tofu curry. That night when they brought it home, I had the opportunity to taste it and fell in love. I wanted more of Kha Thai, so we waited until Monday 7/1; (since they are closed on Sunday) to order again. And I have to say, this place has inconsistent cooks for various days. The consistency from 6/30 to 7/1 is a huge miss. I can't wrap my head around it or comprehend what happened. I ordered the chicken cashew with a chili jam, my sister ordered red tofu curry and my mom the same order as 6/30, but this time it looked and tasted differently. The chicken cashew with chili jam and veggies was served with old chicken bites, you can tell by how chewy, tough, and dry it is. The bites were not covered in the chili jam at all. The jam was watery and not thick how jam is supposed to be. The vegetables: broccoli, carrots and onions, were raw and not cooked down. The cashews were also raw and placed on top of the chicken. So, now I'm being served old and raw food. My sister mentioned, that her red tofu curry was missing the main tofu components. Now, how do you mess up on a dish that includes one thing and it doesn't?! And for the finale, my mom's meal; the chicken fried rice and chicken wings, it didn't contain the original shredded chicken mentioned on the menu, but came with the same old, stale, dry chicken bites that my order had. She also, didn't get the wing sauce she received the first time around. The rice was old and not freshly made. There were specks of black and brown residue in it. It tasted gummy. This restaurant has a lot of potential to be exceptional and great. As all the work put into the interior proves it. It's gorgeous inside! Money lost, food wasted, for what? A cook that can't provide consistent quality food. Such a shame, bring back the same cook on 6/30, as the food was delicious. First and foremost I have to say this is one of the best Thai restaurants I've been to in a very long time. The manager Nari is really nice and they're doing a great job here. I almost believe the reviews here with a low ratings are fake or maybe they're from competitors because the reviews do not represent the experience we had. Food: We started off with fried calamari and it was really good. Very flavorful and made fresh. I had a cashew nut chicken which was exceptionally great. Full of flavor, very tasty, and fresh! The fried rice was really good as well. I'm not even big on vegetables but all the vegetables that were mixed in with the Thai cashew chicken were exceptional. My girlfriend got the pad Thai beef which was just as good as well. The beef was season to perfection, the noodles were full of flavor, I'm telling you right now this is a very great restaurant and if you're in the area I suggest you stop in. Last we got a nice dessert from Nari which was absolutely amazing. We got the fried bananas, with ice cream, sticky rice and mango. It was all exceptional and made the order. Customer service was excellent and our waiter did wore a face mask. The food though, it was excellent! I liked everything we ordered but wasn't big on the thai tea. The Thai tea was a bit milky and I should have asked for less ice. The Tom Yum soup was delicious and packed alot of flavors. I didn't think there would also be other seafood in it besides shrimp. I debated on reviewing this place because it is truly a hidden gem, but I don't gate-keep. It is total vibes. Spicy Thai food, a huge variety of options, vegan, happy hour, craft cocktails, the lighting, the music. It really hit all the sweet spots for me. My server Dave was very attentive, knew the menu well, and offered suggestions when I got stumped, but was humble enough to ask the owner about certain things. (We like that) When I search Yelp reviews I always check to see if a restaurant is kid friendly. While the food and decor is upscale, I'd say it's overall kid friendly. I went on a weekday at lunch and there was a well behaved 7ish old kid there. I wouldn't bring my wild toddler on a weekend dinner rush though. Can't wait to back for date night. Good taste but portion was very small and "extra spicy" was not spicy at all. Had Thai stirred fried basil beef spicy. Considering all the places I've had this dish use sliced beef, this place had ground beef. The ground beef was soggy and so finely ground that it was like mashed potatoes. Suggestion for the place is to use slice beef not ground beef. That dish did have good flavors but the ground beef threw off everything. Another complaint is they gave us Togo bowl of rice. I kid you not, the portion look like it was from someone's dinner portion and they just threw it in there as my Togo rice. Didn't even dare touch the rice. I love Thai food and was excited when Kha Thai opened close to my home. I've only eaten there once. The service and the restaurant decor are both good. The food is good, not great. I had Tom Kha Gai with 3 peppers to start. The soup was perfectly flavored. I didn't like all the chopped bits of lemon grass (I presume). I prefer larger pieces of ingredients that don't compete with the broth... I didn't know whether to sip the soup or chew it a little. Next, I ate red curry chicken (again with 3 peppers) with jasmine rice. The curry was good, a bit thin but flavorful. I think the rice was not Jasmine rice... maybe discount brand rice... because it didn't have the right aroma. I purchased a meal for a friend of mine recently and they loved it. I need to try Kha Thai again. Maybe they've worked on their knife skills and upgraded their rice. Little things make the difference between good and great! read more

We decided to give it a try after a family member told us about this cute Thai food place on Scarsdale that had good food. We have been back to Kha Thai Kitchen a few times as we are aften finding ourselves craving something from their menu. Kha Thai Kitchen has an extensive drink menu and several food options, which is great! Some of our recommendations are the Tom Yum soup, the Drunken Noodles and the Basil Fried Rice. We have visted Kha Thai Kithchen & Bar on multiple occassions. The location is kind of tucked back, but there is plenty of parking. The inside of the restaurant is clean and well organize. The decor is more modern compared to other thai restaurants we used to frequent. The food is delicious, portions are plentiful, and the menu items are reasonably priced. If you are looking for a delicous Thai experience outside of the Bellaire area or downtown adjacent, I recommend that you stop in and give them a try. Yes! Great thai food! My brother in law is Thai and I've known him and his family since I was 12 (over 20 years now) so my exposure to thai food is extensive with all the family members' cooking and going to restaurants all over US and in Thailand. People need to realize there is no ONE "authentic" Thai food. It's hugely diverse and eclectic cuisine. Here in the states what we should be looking for is a place that can deliver consistent, quality food. My gripes with many Thai places around Houston are that the protein is kept in the fridge many days and has an off taste (primarily chicken), the flavors are out of alignment (thai food is all about balancing the flavors), and the food is stretched thin to increase profit (watered down curry). We very much liked this place because, albeit only one experience, we experienced none of this. Tom Yum Gai was superbly balanced and adding the noodles is a brilliant way to make this amazing soup something you can fill up on much like a pho or ramen. The Red Curry was definitely hotter than expected (medium but felt like other place's 4/5 spice level) and on the sweeter side, but not watered down and chicken was good. Only other thing we got was pineapple fried rice which was also solid. We moved to pearland recently and away from my favorite thai place in clear lake, so we were pleased to find a place within 15 minutes of us that we feel like we can pick up whenever and be happy when we don't feel like gathering all the ingredients and cooking thai. Please support this business! We ordered takeout but the man who gave us our food was very nice. The flavors were amazing. We cook Thai food at home, and this was even better than we make! My husband's favorite dish is spicy eggplant, and theirs is the best he's ever had. My husband and I ordered online. I ordered a tofu Panang Curry, website does not ask for spice level and it was impossible for me to eat it even after adding half and half. Also, my curry came with chicken and not with tofu (4 thin pieces of chicken). My husband ordered the drunken noodles, when we opened his to go box it was literally half of an order inside... it looked more like a side than a main dish (Mind you this was a $14 dish, so definitely a main and not a side). When he tried it he said it tasted like shrimp so definitely cross contaminated. Also order was not ready when we got there to pick it up, we waited an extra 15 min for it.
