My wife ordered the Fried Mississippi Catfish with fries and coleslaw, along with jalapeño hush puppies. The fried chicken and catfish were the stars of the meal. We both found the vinegar-and-mayo coleslaw somewhere between average and below average. I felt about the same about my baked beans. My wife thought the jalapeño hush puppies were average. If you want excellent hush puppies, Shrimp & Co. in Hueytown remains our standard. Both of our meals were also served with a thick slice of white bread, which fit the simple, down-home presentation. This was our second or third visit to Champy's, and the food that matters most has been excellent each time. The sides may be hit or miss, but they know how to fry some chicken and catfish.
