Picking up a dinner for two for $8.99 from the drive-thru.
Daniel B.

I'm a bit surprised at all the one-star reviews for this KFC location. My recent experience here wasn't that bad. There are two KFC locations in High Point, this one on South Main and another on North Main. My dad prefers this location on South Main over the one on North Main because he thinks the chicken here tastes better. He told me he thinks the chicken at the North Main location is sometimes overcooked and/or has been sitting out for too long. It's been a while since I've had food from the North Main location so I haven't been able to verify for myself. I came to this location recently because the place we originally wanted to pick up lunch from was unexpectedly closed and my dad had received some coupons in the mail from KFC. He used the coupon for "Dinner for Two" for $8.99. We used the drive-thru and had no issues. Service was quick and we got exactly what we came for. This was on a Saturday afternoon. The Dinner for Two came with a box of chicken and biscuits and four sides plus two individually-wrapped sporks and napkins. Inside the box was five pieces of chicken (drumstick, thigh, wing, breast) and two biscuits. The sides were coleslaw and mashed potatoes and gravy (we doubled up on each). The fried chicken was good. It was nice and crispy, and juicy and tender. My wife made the observation that KFC's chicken has broken bones. We noticed the chicken bones at both this location and a location in Atlanta we tried a few months prior were broken. We wonder why that is. I thought the biscuits were a little dry. The staff at this location didn't include any condiments, but we didn't ask for any either. At the aforementioned Atlanta location, they included packets of KFC honey sauce and hot sauce by default. My dad used some butter he had at home to butter his biscuit. The sides were delicious. I'm a fan of both KFC's slaw and mashed potatoes and gravy. They both just really hit the spot. These are classic, yummy, fast food sides. I recommend them. I'd come back to this location.

There has been a wealth of new fried chicken joints opening up in the Triad lately, and while we…read moreall love more options for crispy fried poultry, they all come with their own nuances. This spot, Hangry Joes, in my opinion has more in common with Korean style fried chicken, than a Nashville hot, or traditional southern place. The menu is diverse, and they make everything look exceptionally large and tasty... honestly, in my opinion, that ends up working against them. Compared with what is presented in their imagery, you are nearly certain to be let down by what you are given. Let me explain. I ordered the "Mega Sando Combo." The picture of a huge chunk of chicken spilling well outside the bun with plenty of tangy slaw and pickles really sold it as the thing I want. Also, when words like "Mega" are used, you are specifically creating large imagery. The reality... it's an 8 ounce chicken breast. The sandwich given to me was larger than one I would be handed at Chick-Fil-A, but not A LOT larger. It all fit completely under the bun. The amount of slaw on the sandwich was very modest... i would even say sparse. While the sandwich was absolutely tasty, my expectations were way off base, and they designed it that way. I think that's a bad thing. The price was also pretty Mega, and the amount of fries it came with... weren't even medium. We had the same issue with the loaded Mac n Cheese bowl. Again.. pictured as bountiful and spilling over the top. Reality, you would not have even had to press down to put a lid on it to go. It all was below the threshold. They also should be serving the sauce on the side with the bowls... there was so much buffalo sauce in the bowl it just tasted like eating a bowl of sauce rather than sauced chicken with mac n cheese. I have now learned my lesson. I'll come back, because really, both the sandwich and the fries were very tasty... but to be honest, not as often as I'd like, and with expectations that I have now created for myself, as opposed to seriously way overblown menu images.

Hey family. Happy Saturday! I tried Miss Johnnie Mae's a while back and I'm happy to report that I…read moreliked it much better than when I tried it prior. My initial introduction was when they were located in Stock and Grain Food Hall. I had wanted to try them for a while and luckily I was invited to a Yelp Event where I was able to sample some items. In all fairness, I absolutely loved the service but maybe it was an off night but at the time I wasn't a fan. But as some months passed, they are no longer in Stock and Grain but in a food truck in High Point. I highly suggest following their Facebook page for dates and times where you can catch them. The service was still wonderful and the food was really good. The sweet potato cornbread is one of my favs and the chicken wings and catfish bites were fried to perfection. I love collard greens but do understand, everyone makes them differently. My family is from eastern NC so we make ours savory, theirs have a little sweetness to it. I don't mind it but this time around was so much better, it was very well balanced. The mac and cheese was delicious as well. Although not pictured, do check out their Russian tea drink. I felt very nostalgic and I have no other words but it was great. I try to savor it when I get some. I wish he sold them in half gallon jugs because I would buy it. That's how good it is. They have other items like Rasta pasta, oxtails, pork chops, and turkey wings. I can't wait to come back and try more food. Give them a follow and check them out. You won't be disappointed.

They were absolutely incredible (in no particular order because they were all perfect): Lemon pepper wings: Huge, seasoned and prepared perfectly! Four large wings per order. Pantry Fried Chicken - Side of okra w/fish fillet

Pantry Fried Chicken

One might ask themselves, "Fried chicken in a gas station?", but there are many hidden gems lurking…read morein unassuming places. After much hype and inquiring with a friend, we decided to try Pantry Fried Chicken, a.k.a. "gas station chicken", selecting a location closest to our house. We opted to order a la carte items, which saved us almost $10 (essentially eliminating drinks). Our meal consisted of chicken tenders, boneless chicken wings, fish fillet, large side of wedges, side of coleslaw, and fried okra. Soft rolls were a bonus! The breading on chicken is crunchy & tasty and comes with an array of sauce selections. The large size wedges could feed an army (at least 4-6 ppl). Potatoes were crunchy on outside (coated?) and soft & tender like a baked potato on the inside (our favorite). The okra was chewy. Now, I'm not sure how to rectify this issue as it had been sitting in a closed container, possibly trapping moisture (maybe wax paper bags?) ‍ Unfortunately , the fish was included in okra container (problem for those who don't like their food touching, but we didn't mind), and fish seemed a bit undercooked, hard to cut, a bit chewy/fishy for my liking. Not sure what type of fish they used, but I do prefer mine cooked a bit more (maybe they accommodate this request?). The coleslaw was tangy (I could definitely identify the horseradish!). All in all portion sizes are plentiful and they provide good value for the money. Everything cooked appears to be deep fried and nothing really stood out besides salt/pepper as seasoning and the potato wedges. You do get good portion sizes and value for the money. Add-ons also seem reasonable. We ordered via app (they have a rewards program) which provided follow-up texts regarding pick-up instructions and thanking us for our order/visit again. You can additional items (per piece price) to a la carte items. Again, this is located at a gas station in a strip mall near Scientific. The ambiance is storefront carryout with lots of parking lot traffic (so be aware). Not sure if dine-in options are offered (aside from your car interior). Recommend checking them out--even if it's once--and form your own opinions. (I was raised on broasted chicken/potatoes, so I may be a bit biased.)

The food is amazing and beer prices on point and the waitress/bartender is super personable. It has a casual sports bar vibe and is really clean inside. The regulars seem a little grungy, but nothing worrysome and even still you cant fault the establisment for that. PBRs or Natty Light pint cans are $2 everyday. That is a great deal! They have a craft beer fridge and one of the days they offer $2.50 for any one of them. I have been for quesadilla day and the portion is huge and really good. The taco day is good and interesting they offer one regular style and one rotating style each week. The burgers are killer especially the Bacon Egg N' Cheeseburger. The hotdog deal they have everyday is a super value. They use homemade sauces on most of their food. Really a well rounded restaurant especially for being attached to a bowling alley. They have tons of TVs if you want to watch anything. They even have a covered patio. They have Golden Tee, if you are into that. I can't speak for the night life I live in Greensboro and work in High Point so I only do lunches, but it always seems like they have something going on like DJs. If you are cold natured bring a sweater it is always a little chilly. As a person who gets lunch in High Point everyday and bases decisions on cost and taste this is in my top 5.
