We tried the new $20 dinner box that KFC has as its new special Well I made the order via the mobile app. I can safely say do not do this at the Ankeny location. I sat for over 25 minutes in the drive thru since you can not enter to get a mobile order. So when we finally got to the window they handed our food thru the drive thru window after it sat for the past half hour waiting as we sat in the drive thru lane. Food was no longer fresh or hot. What really sealed the deal was their sign on the drive thru window that says to skip the drive thru wait use the mobile app. In other words this was a complete fail on this location. I went to the drive through here today, planning on getting a sandwich(very good here), when I saw a pic of the bowls with fries and a drink(combo) for $5.99, so I ordered that. I told them what drink I wanted and proceeded to pick up my order, then headed for the interstate. I generally try to eat the fries while they are hot, because that's the best taste. No fries in the bag. I returned to the restaurant to get my fries. The person there said that they gave me the $5.99 combo that only had the bowl and drink, because I didn't specifically ask for the fries. So, apparently there are TWO different combos for the bowls, both the exact same price, but one includes fries and the other one doesn't. It was my fault for not specifying which one I wanted(clearly stated by the server). So, if you want the combo that has the fries, you need to specifically ask for them. Today I learned something new! Lot parking. Average fast food prices. The bowl was hot, fresh and tasted good. Speed of service was good, didn't have to wait at all. Unfortunately that was the only positive. All of my biscuits were extremely burnt. I've never had a bad biscuit before but these were inedible, they should never have been served. Chicken was just as bad, just oozing out dirty old fryer oil. Employees obviously don't care at all. I asked an employee to explain something to me since I was new to ordering and the older lady with glasses with missing teeth started giving attitude. I have not been to a KFC in years, because I just felt their food was not as good as Popeyes, but this KFC being close to my bank I decided to try it out after running my bank errands. I went through the drive thru and they got my food ready quick, I paid with my card and they handed me my food with my card, that quick. I got the 3 piece crispy chicken combo with the Mac and cheese for a side and it comes with a biscuit and drink. You can also choose dark or white meat chicken, different prices though. Eating the chicken I was pleasantly surprised , the inside was juicy and the skin was crispy. The Mac and cheese was good as always and so was the biscuit. This location gave me no issues and I enjoyed their food. I personally still prefer Popeye chicken, they have a different taste . read more

The shocker here is how good the Nashville hot chicken is. Yeah it is not Prince's or Hattie B's but it is the closest thing I have seen to real Nashville hot chicken here in Iowa. KFC "was" one of my family's favorites. Once a week we would pick up a bucket, and all the sides (double of the mashed potatoes) I teach kids to code at a nearby school program and decided to treat my students. With the parrents permission, lunch was on me... I nearly got fired because half the class got sick. I don't know what they did, spit on it, drop it on the floor, give me nasty old chicken, but I'm never going back. Their food was good, but NO WAY I'll ever risk it again. Hands down the worst experience I've ever had any any KFC location. First thing I noticed was the smell. Walked in and it smelt like straight sewage throughout the entire restaurant. I ordered a chicken strip box meal. The chicken strips were cold and inedible. The side of Mac and cheese that came with it appeared to have dry chunks of something in it, and didn't look appealing. The biscuit was dryer than the god damn Sahara. The mashed potatoes were good, and the cashier was polite, but that's all they had going for them. The floors were COVERED in nastiness and crumbs. Not So Fast Food. Apparently this franchise had 4 employees working the dinner hour on Sunday, 3 in back cooking and working the drive-up window and one on register in front. While customers in their cars were getting their orders, server at front counter was taking and filling those orders for the customers in the store. It took over 20 minutes for her to fill my simple order of 4 piece chicken combo. A customer who came in well after me even got his large order before she found time to go to the back and fill my order. You should not have to wait over 20 minutes in what is supposed to be a fast-food restaurant to get served. Very poor service. read more

The food was good. The service left a lot to be desired. The person at the cash register was blowing bubbles with her gum and was messing with her shoe after she waited on the people ahead of us before she took our money. I asked for mayo for dipping sauce for the chicken tenders. She then said they only use the mayo for their sandwiches, that she can't give it to me for dipping sauce in case we get sick from it and then we could sue them. With that logic, it's okay to make customers sick with the mayo on their sandwich but not for dipping sauce. Every other time I have eaten at this restaurant they give me a small bowl with some mayo in it. I won't eat there again because of this cashier. read more

What KFC joint runs out of original recipe chicken? Ok, this one does. Really, that is the entire reason we wanted our meal from here. It wasn't the staff's fault so why take out my frustrations on them? They are just the messenger. They handled it well and provided us our food hot and packaged well. The meal ended up being good and although we were disappointed we embraced it and liked what we had. The cookies were fresh which helped ease the disappointment. The other disappointment was not having diet mt dew. You have pepsi products, you have mt dew but you don't offer diet mt dew. Huh, I don't get it. It was clean and mostly well kept. The fountain drink area could have stood to be cleaned up. Parking is ample. Well done staff at KFC. You deserve a raise. read more

My last two visits were terrible. I buy chicken tenders for the kids. They have been so over cooked you cant chew them. Last night got home with one less fill up box than ordered and without honey mustard as requested. I think I'm done eating here. In my 25 years in Ankeny this KFC has only gone downhill sorry to say. They used to have a great buffiet and prices were with in reason. I now recomend the Pizza Ranch and its broasted chicken all you can eat buffiet on Oralabor Road and South Ankeny Blvd. read more

My family and I stopped here on vacation. All four of us had a $5 lunch. Our order was ready very quickly, the food was excellent, and the staff was friendly.
