This is a local fast food joint with a private parking lot and dual drive-through lines (Passenger and Driver). The staff there was friendly enough, but my interaction with them was limited. The restaurant does not have an indoor dining area, but there are some tables outside that you can sit and eat at. On Mondays, they have a single burger special. It really draws people in and packs the place. They pretty much only have burgers and fries. I got the bacon western burger. It took them about 8 minutes to prepare. The burger was ok. It did not live up to the hype. I liked that I could taste the flame-broiled flavor, but it also had a frozen-patty taste. The fries were also not up there with the best that I have had. Was I able to eat my food? Yes... but it just did not rank up there with the better burgers I have had. This would not be my go-to spot for burgers. I would more than likely find a different burger joint to satisfy my craving. read more

You can't beat b-bops for fast food quality. The burgers are always fresh and delicious. . The double drive through makes the visit quick even if the lines are long, and they are almost always long! The folks running the ordering and pickup windows always seem to be friendly regardless of the weather. We have never had anything but really good experiences in Ankeny. The orders are accurate and they are courteous! As far as ambiance it's primarily a drive through ordering restaurant on a very busy corner! They do offer some outdoor seating with umbrellas for shade, and there is a walk up window for ordering if you don't want to drive through. When it's busy it's hard to get to a parking spot however. Pro tip! Monday night is the night to go if you want a smoking deal and the same good quality, they have a single 1/4 burger for $2.18. IMHO, Be-Bop's is a step above a McDonald's or Wendy's in terms of fast-food burgers and such. I was on the way back to Ames the other day, saw the sign and quickly got into one of the 2 drive through lanes. Their design is kind of cool in that the lanes are on opposite side, one for driver's side and the other for passenger. As I was willing to reach and the line was shorter, I chose passenger. My choices were single cheeseburger, fries, and a lemonade. Great stuff and it was certainly messy dining on all this goodness on the road. A Midwest favorite. read more

Came in expecting McDonald's level of food and their burgers are slightly nicer. I took a sip of my boyfriend's milkshake (I'm lactose intolerant ) and it was eh and overly sweet. We always seem to find our way to B-Bop's each Monday. Normally we have no issue with our meals and maybe missing a ranch side here and there no biggie. So imagine my surprise when we discovered we were missing a whole burger. Luckily we had not left the parking lot so I got right back in line and told them I was missing a burger. Well they had me pull ahead and when I got back to the window we explained that we were missing a burger. After talking to three people we finally got our missing burger for no charge. Excuse me?? I paid for that burger and will be damned if I going to pay for it again. This irked me that the manager did not want to charge me for a burger I already paid for. So I will sit at the window the next time to make sure I have my complete order from now on. I would suggest that others do the same. I will not be moving until I verify my order is complete. Service was fast and the server was cordial, but two of our four burgers weren't the right ones. Incorrect orders have happened several times at this location, and the quality of their fries also don't compare to the Ames store. We will not return to the Ankeny B-Bops and will only stick to the Ames one -- their food, staff, and accuracy are far superior. read more

Ankeny bbops is consistently good. The service, while not overly friendly, is polite and efficient. It's rare to have your order messed up but if it is they correct it right away. The best day to go is Monday for the burger special! Just remember, they charge extra for cheese, but it's worth it! read more

Let me start by saying I am a fan of the burgers at b-bops.. I eat there frequently.. usually a good meal for reasonable price. Monday I stopped in for their manic Monday. $1.99 for 1/4 lb hamburger. They were busy as usual with long drive thru lane. I get to order box and ask if I can add bacon. Guy says sure. So I ordered 1 with bacon tomato and onion and a 2nd with bacon lett and tomato. The guy asked if I wanted to add cheese. I said no.. then he tells me the cost. Like $12.95. So I asked where that number came from? I said $8 bacon? He paused and answer was his manager said to charge for 2 bacon cheeseburgers and subtract the cheese? Wtf, makes no sense. Says because of the special.. can add cheese to special but not bacon? Seems right. Then charge me for cheese they were not putting on to boot. So I said scratch the bacon. And his reply was to repeat the order but minus the items that I requested be the only thing on them.. I lost it. Repeated what I wanted and they said the cost of like $4 something. I drive around and manager handled my transaction with no explanation for wacky pricing.. But $8+ for 4 strips of bacon seems unreasonable.. this really soured me on this location. Yelpers, I must explain my frustration with B-Bops. I love this place for their amazing burgers. I go almost always once a week for them! My frustrations began on Saturday when I ordered my usual order, a number nine with no cheese and no mayo. It wasn't until I got to my friends house that I found out it had cheese on it. I couldn't eat it. A meal I paid for, lost. I went again tonight (four days later) and ordered my usual meal. I told the guy over the intercom that my meal was done incorrectly on Saturday and I couldn't eat it and I wanted to be sure my order was correct this time. He said he'd take care of it. I get to the window and he handed me my food. I asked again, did you make sure the order was correct. He told me he did and that the manager made it herself. I got home, just now, and it's a completely different burger. A number 11 or something like that. Now, my frustration comes from the fact that I believe a manager must do everything they can to keep customers happy. I've been a waiter before both in Iowa and Chicago. My managers taught me to do everything I can to make my customers happy and if I can't do it, to get them. When I explained that I couldn't eat my meal from Saturday, they did nothing to correct that. No apology, no "I'm sorry sir, we'll get today's meal because you couldn't eat it last time", nothing! Part of being a restaurant is keeping your loyal customers. Now I'm questioning my loyalty to B-Bops. The only reason I gave them two stars instead of less is because I love the food. Let me first say I have been to various B-Bops in Iowa and eaten almost every item from their menu. This location is no different than their other locations, food made fresh and delicious. Their staff is always friendly here and the wait is not long. For those who do not know what B-Bops is, it is a classic made and tasting burger. This is my favorite B Bops. The fries are better here than NE 14th. They also fill the fry sack WAY UP. BBops is my weakness... Some people smoke cigarettes.. some drink beer. Some people love In-and-Out, some people love Five Guys Burgers, but then there are the B-Bop's lovers. I am one of those B-Bop's lovers and I have been for as long as I could eat solid food. Okay, that might be an over exaggeration but really, this place is my favorite fast food joint. I avoid eating fast food by all means but if I had to stuff my face with burgers and fries, B-Bop's is the place to go to do that. I've had In-and-Out before and it just didn't compare to B-Bop's burgers and delicious, crispy fries. The food is prepared fresh and the workers are nice and quick on their feet.
