Paid $22.30 for one regular burger and one small burger, plus a regular drink. Overpriced BIG-TIME. Burgers are pretty decent, but they forgot to put toppings on the order. Save your money and go elsewhere.

I havnt had much to write about lately because Nova has fallen hard for Vice's Munchies and has insisted on cooking at home with me as her guinea pig. I'm not complaining because for the most part she's nailed it and on most days she cooks wearing nothing more then her Hello Kitty apron and bunny slippers. If I could Yelp review her cooking she'd get 5 stars but then all you foodies would show up at my house for dinner and I can't have that because I'm an asshole with substance abuse issues. Her bouillabaisse though brings tears to my eyes. Who puts a whole lobster tail poached in butter floating on top of a bowl of bouillabaisse? That crazy broad does. No wonder I can't afford parts to fix my motorcycle. She's spending it all on her cooking obcession. Nova: "I don't feel like cooking, let's go to Five Guys" Me: "No" Nova: "Take me to Five Guys or you make dinner" Me: "No. Eat a pop tart or a frozen pizza" Nova: "Take me to Five Guys or I will kill you in your sleep" I can't really blame her. We'd both just regained some level of consciousness after sailing on Jim Morrisons Crystal Ship (figure it out) for the past 4 and half hours. I didn't want to cook either, so we climbed into the mini van and headed to Ankeny. The throngs of Christmas shoppers were everywhere which meant by the time we got there I had a serious case of road rage. It is a known fact that I am the only person in the metro who knows how to properly drive and underatands that speed limits are mere suggestions. This is my third visit to Five Guys. Once in Kansas City, once in Key West and now Ankeny. I've honestly never been impressed but Nova loves the place. Yeah their fries are good but anyplace that I can't order a burger medium rare just don't cut it in my book. I get it, they are fast food but I also don't expect to pay $31 for a couple of cheeseburgers, a shared fries and a couple of drinks. They are overpriced. Call it "craft" burgers all you want but it ain't worth the price. Nova will disagree as it's her favorite fast food burger joint. If I must have fast food burgers I'll stick to Wendys or B-bops but in the overall scheme of things $31 dollars is a small price to pay to keep her happy. Most people love Five Guys. I am not one of them. I also understand that taste and atmosphere is subjective. I'll give them two stars and add another because she loves them.

    The bacon we received.

We normally love Five Guys, but won't be going back to this location. We ordered two burgers. One was suppose to be a bacon cheeseburger with pickles and they left off the pickles and bacon. When we brought it up to them they laughed and gave us this tin with bacon pieces that were cold and crumbed to pieces when picked up. I asked if they had warm bacon and they laughed again and said "we don't use fresh bacon" and that's the only bacon they use.

Five Guys is clean and moves like a well oiled machine. Place order, get receipt, wait for your number to be called. Here's my take. I love cheeseburgers more than my own children. I think I've said this before. It's a true toss up. We decided to grab lunch before the rush, 11:20ish am. on a Friday. It wasn't too busy, there's a communal peanut box for your waiting pleasure. Ordering is simple enough, simple menu which I can really appreciate. Staff was very friendly and helpful with the ordering process. 10 minutes later our number was called. I'm sorry for die hard lovers of Five Guys. Paying $7.83 for a burger that's exactly like the ones I make at home is a huge let down. It's just a burger. It wasn't juicy, salty, smokey....just a plain flavorless meat patty on an ordinary sesame seed bun. Fries were real good, hand cut and from St. Anthony Idaho today. My hubby is from Idaho, so this was exciting for him. That's really it. $30 for 2 little bacon cheeseburgers, 2 little fries and 2 regular drinks. Now, if this was a bomb a$$ burger, I would totally spend that without batting an eye, but it was not good. It was bland.

    The Little Fries

In my opinion, the best "fast food" burger place in Des Moines. The "little" cheeseburger and fries are actually just normal sized. It's a little more expensive than typical fast food joints, but the quality is superb, so you get what you pay for. The inside was clean and well organized, which is sometimes hard to find with other fast food restaurants. If calories didn't count, I'd eat here everyday!

I'm glad there's a new location in Ankeny! It's conveniently on Delaware Ave which I think is a smart place for a restaurant. It's right by I235. I like the endless free toppings. The jalapeños are fresh cut. I didn't expect that. I am not a fan of it. If you want only 1 patty - order the little burgers. I accidentally ordered a double. The coffee shake didn't taste like it was blended well. I got a few strong hits of coffee. The line here was not as crazy as the West Des Moines location. That may have been bc the crazy thunderstorm the day I stopped in. Yay for thunderstorms!

Mediocre at best, we waited forever for 2 burgers 2 fries and 2 drinks and again it wasn't that great

I love Five Guys. I especially love Five Guys when I go out East. Those locations seem to truly embody the Five Guys experience and essence. The ones out West just don't have the same feel and quality food. So I was worried when One opened in Ankeny. Would it be like the East coast locations or the West coast ones? Would I end up only coming here once and have to ignore it because it would disappoint? Lucky for me and anyone who has not had the job of eating at an East coast Five Guys, the Ankeny location is exactly like the ones out East. The food is amazing. They do a great job with customer service. The burgers are slow to cook but what can you expect when they only cook to order? That's what makes it taste so great. So if you can't make it to New York City with the Iowa Hawkeyes for the Pinstripe Bowl, you can still pretend you are out East by eating here and then watch the game while sitting on your back porch.

I ordered my food online 09/11/19 it was just a double cheez burger. It was disgusting Bun was soaking wet fries were slightly burned I threw away half of it Burger was not built properly it was very soggy cheez was not put in the correct way half of the cheese was on the foil that they cover the burger with Pretty bad I wish I took pix I usually don't post reviews that much but this was a cluster f***

My first time going, and I did like the place. First few things I notice is that I have to order their fries (especially since they are even telling me where they potatoes are from today kinda cool). The free classic peanuts that you can start eating while in line or waiting for your food. So The food was good, Burger was nothing too special but still good, fries are made by hand cut and that always taste very good. Looking forward to going back, and always get the fries even if you don't get the burger :)

There was a small but steady crowd throughout the night and we had top- notch service from our server- knowledgeable about the menu, attentive in the 'just right way' - carefully observing drinks and not interrupting date night more than necessary. A variety of local And other craft beers were featured although surprisingly not any from Firetrucker next door! The holiday decor was still up but even without it has a warm feel- love the various table sizes and heights and the long bar with a pretty decent offering for cocktails. While there, the bartender was experimenting with drinks and having fun. After recommendations I ordered the French dip which was phenomenal! Homemade bread, warm, generous meat and peppers and grilled onions, flavorful dip . I will say if I ordered again I would ask to have the sauce left off as I am not a fan of horseradish sauce. Still, it was tasty! Side salad as option was super fresh with mixed greens and the house creamy Italian was bursting with herby flavor. my husband had the tenderloin and while delicious- it was 'bougie' and not the traditional Midwest. It was generous and interesting as a dinner option. Would certainly return as the patio is inviting (just not in January)!'

I and my amazing woman ordered the Grilled Buffalo Chicken Cobb along with a half Very Berry Salad with added grilled chicken, and overall it was a satisfying, hearty meal. The Grilled Buffalo Chicken Cobb was the standout. The chicken was tender and well-cooked, topped with a bold buffalo sauce that added heat overpowering the dish (heh). The salad itself was generously portioned and visually appealing, loaded with fresh ingredients like cherry tomatoes, avocado slices, blue cheese crumbles, crispy bacon, hard-boiled egg, corn, carrots, and mixed greens. Every bite had a good balance of textures and flavors--creamy, crunchy, savory, and spicy. The Very Berry Salad (half portion) was fresh and light, making it a nice contrast to the Cobb. Adding grilled chicken made it more filling, though the upcharge felt a little steep for the portion size. Still, the greens and toppings were fresh and well-prepared. Service and presentation were solid, and the food arrived looking just as good as it tasted. One downside was the added 3% swipe/tap fee, which bumped the total up a bit, but the quality of the food helped justify the overall surprise. Overall: A flavorful, filling meal with fresh ingredients and strong presentation. A good choice if you're craving a substantial salad that doesn't feel boring and looking for a place to hide from a rain and talk to your loved one. (5/5)

The fries were also not up there with the best that I have had. Was I able to eat my food? Yes... but it just did not rank up there with the better burgers I have had. The Service: We were eventually seated at a booth (the one with no working TVs), and while we were quickly greeted by Jennifer--who was our waitress for the night--we ended up waiting most of the evening for her to come back. We did get waters and drinks while waiting for our friends to arrive. Once they showed up, it took a little while to get the rest of our order in, but it all worked out in the end. They were very busy that night--between the Indiana Fever game, graduations, and a band crowd. Jennifer was hustling, along with her husband and one other waitress, trying to cover the whole place. So, while I can't (and won't) complain about the effort, they clearly needed more help to reach that 5-star level. Same goes for the bar--it was overwhelmed and absolutely needed more than one bartender to handle that crowd. Just a note for management: the team was working hard, but they were outnumbered. The Food: The kitchen was on the ball. Our appetizer of Brussels sprouts was delicious--great flavors, perfectly cooked--and they hit the table just moments before our entrees did. I had the jalapeño burger with the ridiculously long name (you'll know it when you see it), and added the $4 onion rings. The burger was fantastic--well made, full of flavor. The onion rings, while not quite worth the $4 upcharge as a side, were the crispiest onion rings I've ever had. Really good. Kim's wrap, on the other hand, was underwhelming--$14 for a tortilla shell mostly filled with lettuce and not much flavor. Our friends seemed happy with their meals and later ordered a bread pudding to share. We all had a sample, and while it was decent, it was definitely missing a sauce or something to make it pop. The Value: Our bill--1 appetizer, 2 meals, and 4 drinks--came to over $100 plus tip. (Now that I'm writing this, I kind of wish I'd looked at the receipt more closely.) Still, that seems to be the going rate for this kind of night out in the greater Des Moines area these days. Pro Tip: Try coming during happy hour to stretch your dollars a bit further.

We have been there before with friends for drinks and enjoyed the restaurant and good service so decided to check out their burgers. We were in around 5:15 on a Saturday night and immediately seated in a large booth. Our server was friendly and attentive and efficient (checked in briefly 3 times and let us say if we needed anything) all throughout the meal. The burger menu isn't super extensive but satisfying to all palettes- a classic/simple/just the basics, to specialty (see picture). I did sample the means for other offerings and there were many diverse offerings. Apps and dessert tempting but all I was craving was a good burger. I wasn't sure about Mac and cheese on my burger but it was a nice addition. I took some off the burger and enjoyed as an extra side/ it was creamy and mildly flavor so as to add more texture than actual flavor to the burgers. I should mention I had not eaten all day as normally I could never eat two burgers, however they were more thin than thick and tasted perfect on what tasted almost like a steamed (and soft) bun. I enjoyed the signature pickles on the side and added a little signature bacon jam to the burger which was a nice flair of flavor. My husband's burger was the perfect mix of cheese and mushrooms and flavor. Nothing special about the Tots or fries except a generous amount of both and their presentation in a mini fry basket. We waited about 10-15 minutes for our food but between water and drinks served it was a quick wait, especially for a Saturday night. This is a pleasant restaurant whether eating in a quiet booth or for watching bets while eating. Lots of options for couples or larger groups.
