We've been trying to stop by Youghiogheny Glass for about 5 years now, ever since a local glass…read moreartist told us about the place. This is the factory where Youghiogheny makes some pretty amazing colored art glass by hand, sheet by sheet. There's a "tour" of the factory where you can watch the guys dip out the molten glass, mix it, press it flat, and cut it to size. You can also buy glass from a large warehouse stocked with pretty much every color of glass you can imagine - and the warehouse prices are much lower than you can get at any art glass retailer. There are only two things keeping this from being a 5-star review: I've already experienced the tour of the Kokomo Opalescent Glass factory (which was much more organized, rehearsed, and in-depth) and the Youghiogheny tour was much more casual affair; and there's nothing you can use or buy on-site to box or package any scrap glass you want to buy (we sent one member of our party off to the local Walmart to buy some plastic tubs). We went home with around $200 of very nice glass (about 80 lbs. of glass) that would have cost us 2-4 times as much from a local retailer so it was still a good day.

*****SALE DAY 10/19/13*****…read more It had been over 30 yrs since I was last in Connellsville at the time I was a travel companion for a gal friend who was going home to visit with the family of course I had no idea I would be back to purchase stained glass of all things. My drive in was fabulous...the Fall colors provided me with much to marvel at on the long ride. Please do make a point to take advantage of both the sale and Fall foliage the area has to offer this time of year. I went via the turnpike....well placed restrooms. As previously mentioned the retail store/gallery has been closed....sadly, it's what looks to be a train depot with a lot of cute Victorian 'ginger-bread'. I have no idea why it was closed but my guess is to save money. The warehouse is nothing fancy. BUT.....there is a TON of glass to look at :) more than I had anticipated actually. So what you will find: ~Friendly help. ~The standard racks and light boxes off to the side for double checking the color. ~Glass rocks for your garden, maybe as paper weights, whatevers and some are small enough to make into pendents. ~Scrap glass ~Glass by the pound, be careful here because depending on your needs the full sheets might be a better option. ~Glass ends....by that I mean the end they would discard it's mostly smooth and scalloped. I was told by another customer it can be tough to cut and I guessed it was due to the fact the pieces had varied thickness. However it would make a good scalloped edge for the top of a window to hide hardware for other panels with just a quick finish or as landscaping in a panel. If you plan to buy for windows measure your windows first and take a tape measure with you. ~They have gloves but they are sized for large hands. You might want to take your own...get the type with little grips on the palm side, it will help. I didn't have gloves and managed just fine. ~ Wrapping area with foam type cushiony "paper'. Need to know: The building sits back in an industrial area and it was hard to find....really it looks like you are going the wrong way. So my tip is to go to the end of the buildings and back track two....look up at the top of the building and you will see the sign. If you think you would like to cart things back in boxes for ease of carrying, bring 'em with you. Oh....trips through the factory are by appointment only so call ahead. Almost forgot next sale is October 17-18 2014 but I have the feeling there is always 'something' marked down.
