I was looking for an activity to do on Friday, observed Veteran's Day. School was closed, and the veteran in our home was off of work. I randomly thought of Brushes & Beans. We called around noon, and they made us a 2:30pm reservation. We arrived a bit early so my husband and I could order coffees, and we bought a baked good for my children (ages 4 and 6). I think some might be caught off guard by the macchiato at this cafe, but they are true to Italian size and style (says the prior northern Italy resident). My husband ordered a double and had them add the bourbon caramel flavoring to it (not true to Italian style - ha!). He said he really liked it, and I enjoyed teasing him with a little "pinkies up!" call out when taking his photo. I ordered a decaf Americano (boring, I know) and also enjoyed it. Our children split a chocolate chip scone. There were a variety of muffins to choose from, croissants, and gluten-free items as well. Soon, it was time for our painting reservation. I have to say, everyone we interacted with was patient, helpful, and kind. They each seem to enjoy their job. They came around the tables often to ask if we need anything, and would bring additional paint or offer help and advice when needed. There is a nice variety of ceramics to choose from for painting as well. All in all, we very much enjoyed our visit and would certainly go back again! I was thinking it could be a fun outing for a Girl Scout troop or any kind of club or organization. You could go and paint ornaments, which are affordable and easy to do. I may have to pass that idea past our Girl Scout troop's leader. :) read more

Every time I visit the coffee shop side, I have been met with extremely helpful and cheerful associates. I have not gone to the painting side, although it looks like fun. The coffee shop side has an everyday menu as well as featured drinks. I can see why this coffee shop is voted a top coffee shop. read more

I am a sucker for good customer service and this place has it! It's currently snow in and I am not dressed weather appropriate because of an injury and my girls at brushes and beans had nothing but kind things to say about my clothes. They made me feel so welcome and tried to get to know me in the 3 minutes I was actually there to get my chai. Great chai tea by the way. I am definitely coming back to sip and make some pottery too! What a fun party!! Our now 9 year old wanted to have her party here. It was great. It was only $25 to get the room in the back. We went in days prior and our daughter picked some items she thought the girls would want to paint. They had everything set for the girls to choose from. They also got to choose some colors (it was a good amount to choose from) with which to paint. They don't have a kitchen and welcomed us to bring our own food in. They have a nice area set up where we were able to set up the food. Jersey Mike's was a hit! The restrooms were a perfect. They were clean and nice. There were two of them as well which was great. The owners were both there and were so sweet. Everything was explained well to us as we had lots of first timers. If you are looking for a place for a birthday party for kids, it's great. I'd say you wouldn't want younger than 9 or so as there is some skill needed to make things look nice. But our 5 year old painted one with skill! This is also a great coffee house or date spot. This is such a cool local place! One side is their cafe with beverages, pastries and seating. The other side is ceramics you can pick to paint! The price tag on each item includes the item, the painting of it and the firing in the kiln. Everyone I have met who works here is also super nice. I can't say enough good things about Brushes and Beans. I knew I wanted to do something artistic as part of my bachelorette weekend, and you would not believe how difficult it was to arrange some sort of private party where people could do their own thing at their own price point. Not here though - Mark was incredible to work with. He got back to me immediately, answered all my questions, and made the whole experience seamless. We had 16 gals I have the best time getting to choose their pieces (prices ranged from $13 to the hundreds so there was something for everyone), and paint them. Staff was knowledgeable and attentive. We were able to bring our own food to enjoy while we painted, and also got to enjoy the cafés delish coffee. I will definitely be back! read more

So this place was interesting. It's a coffee shop and pottery studio; very different concept. The coffee is really good and their seasonal drinks are worth getting. This is definitely a nice place to go to for a date night or with kids to paint in the pottery studio area. read more

This place has everything!! They make really great coffee and lattes using la prima coffee beans. I love the croissants they sell as well. All the staff are super friendly and helpful. I love going there to paint ceramics as well. Regardless of artistic ability the staff give really great suggestions and directions for painting whatever piece you choose! read more

This is going to be a dynamic review since there are two sides to this business. "Beans": they make coffee and breakfast/brunch food. The food and pastries are all fresh, creative, and well done. The coffee has a good taste, much better than any chain you will find. I am however disappointed with their syrup brand. I would expect a premier coffee shop to put more effort into a REAL syrup and not a cheaper brand. "Brushes": I came with a 7 year old and my brother to paint some pottery. Not sure if under new management. Went in yesterday and found out my favorite worker had been let go. Kid was awesome. Personable smart witty entertaining and kind. A few weeks ago we had a Party for my nephew and the kid went out of his way to do a drawing for my nephew, a Spider-Man birthday card....by hand. Stopped in for breakfast and found a place I really want to return to! The breakfast burrito and fancy toast were excellent. The burrito was full of flavor and very filling with eggs,potatoes,bacon cheese. The toast was unique in a very good and healthy way, esp loved the bread(house made?) that is topped with veggies. If I lived closer I would be a regular for sure. They have a great drink menu, some pastries and an inviting seating area. The place is divided in two but both sides are very accessible. We stopped by to congratulate the owners in their first week! The decor and color scheme is really inviting. The favored lattes we ordered were tasty and prepared quickly. If I could give them a 10/5 I would! We came all the way from Buffalo, New York to celebrate our niece's birthday and after they had finished up a basketball game she decided this is where she wanted to go. We did not make reservations which a strongly encouraged and noted for next time however, they were able to accommodate our family of 6 by reconfiguring some tables and letting us paint! My niece was thrilled and I was too because it really does bring you back to such a relaxing and creative place! I cannot thank I'm not sure if it was the owner or manager for being so accommodating and squeezing us in and not only that but they were so attentive checking to make sure we had enough paint or water or refills and we ordered drinks at the cafe which were so delicious my hot chocolate was better than the one I get a Starbucks and they delivered them right to our table! I would highly recommend supporting such a wonderful business that's owned/ran by such charismatic individuals who truly made a magical experience for my niece! read more

The team at Brushes & Beans went above and beyond. I went here on Saturday evening with a bunch of girlfriends for an evening out. We had a blast. They had live music, delicious coffee, yummy treats and a knowledgeable, kind staff. I had to get a price rushed and they were responsible in not promising me that they could accomplish it but instead said they would do their best. I am so pleased to be able to pick up my piece this evening, so I can take it on the plane with me tomorrow! I cannot wait to go back and paint another piece! I absolutely LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this place. Superior ingredients, super friendly owners and staff, BEST BREAKFAST SANDWICH in Murrysville. The Chef does NOT skimp on quality or portion and the coffee is fresh and magnificent. They source from the premier local providers (La Prima coffee roasters and Mediterra Bakery) and it shows. I haven't dabbled with the ceramics yet because my schedule is full (but I'm a regular breakfast customer) but definitely will try my hand at painting soon. What a great addition to Murrysville !!
