My friend and I wanted to change things up... the dinner after work and straight to the hotel 3 nights a week was getting really monotonous. I love these kinds of activities where you can turn off your brain and decompress. I found place through LivingSocial for about $22 each. We painted balloons that got away. There were only 4 of us that night which was kinda nice because Sandy was able to give us more of her attention. This is a BYOB place so bring your adult beverage... it's just a lot more fun that way. I like that Sandy had hairdryers so we didn't have to wait 15-20 minutes for the paint to dry before painting the extra layers. I would definitely come back but maybe to paint one of the ceramic pieces.

My friends and I purchased the "Date Night" Groupon for this place and it was a deal! I paid $14 which was a value of $29. This covered $9 for studio time and $20 towards pottery. I wasn't 100% sure if we would have actually been "making" the pottery or just picking it out and painting it. (They offer both) This was my first time participating in this so I wasn't too sure. I probably could have asked when I called to make a reservation (a must for date night) but I guess I was just being lazy. Turns out for this particular night you picked out the pottery and painted it. You have to reserve another time to actually make the pottery, etc. I made reservations for a Thursday night 6pm, BYOB! We showed up and were shown our table for the night, given wine glasses and Sandy (The owner) even opened our wine for us! She explained how everything worked and showed us what we could pick from. Very nice and patient woman. You can tell by talking to her she takes pride in her work and genuinely ENJOYS it. It was really exciting getting to pick out the pottery...there were all kinds to choose from. You'll have to go for yourself to check out the options. I ended up picking a Wine Chiller and a small Fruit Bowl (decorative purposes). You can see them in the picture I'm going to post when I complete this review. We each picked our paint colors and shared from each others choices. From there on out it was smooth PAINTING. (And sipping some vino). The next couple hours were so fun. Sandy played music (Christmas, at the time) and we had some light chatter. At the end we gave her our finished pieces which she would later "fire" and call us to come pick up. Took about a week for things to be completed and mine turned out looking better than expected. I had a wonderful time and cannot wait to take some more friends on my next trip there. Groupon or NO Groupon. It's definitely worth it!!

We scheduled a date night to have a beginner wheel pottery lesson. Sandy was amazing. She was very gracious and patient with us as we fumbled our way through making several pieces. She closes off the whole studio for date nights so that it's just you and let's you bring your adult beverage of choice. We got to make 5 pieces! In 2 weeks she called us to come in and paint our pieces and we had just as much fun! She let her adorable rescue kitty out to meet us too :) I highly recommend scheduling a lesson at Kiln n Time! Support Sandy and her awesome small business! Make sure you leave a tip too!

I went here for a canvas night with my dear friend, Emily. The painting was a snapshot of the Pittsburgh skyline from the Roberto Clemente bridge. The entire process was really fun. Emily and I enjoyed sipping on wine and being creative. The canvases were not printed or anything - everyone had to freehand their creation. We were given a lot of freedom with painting our canvases, which was really nice. The staff were all extremely helpful and kind. My only complaint would be that the tables and easels were all squished together, so there wasn't much room to move around. I would definitely come back here for another painting night!

Stopped by this afternoon with my sisters. What a great afternoon! Sandy is a great host. We each picked out a piece of pottery to paint. She explained the process which is very simple. We each selected five colors to use. Sandy made us feel so welcome and answered any questions we had. She let us relax and enjoy company with each other while providing everything we needed for our visited. It has a large selection of pieces to paint. We painted two mugs and a jewelry box. I highly recommend visiting! Great for private events or small groups!

It was something we have always wanted to do, but it always sold out before we had the chance to. As the glass blowing experience approached, I took the day off work and we coordinated an entire day around the session. We were very excited to go. On September 27th, we received our confirmation email reminding us of our upcoming session. On September 29th at 3:07 pm, we received an automatic cancellation email that our appointment had been cancelled and we needed to reschedule. The email provided no explanation for the cancellation. There was no additional email sent and no contact attempted by phone. Confused, my boyfriend tried the number provided and left a message. He also sent a Facebook message. Concerned, I called the company as well and after 2 calls, reached Janine (spelling?). She explained that they didn't receive the glass supplies needed for the session and that they were cancelling all sessions on Saturday and all sessions on Sunday. I asked if they were going to reschedule or offer an additional session for those who have already signed up. I was informed that I could reschedule after January 1st, 2018 because the rest of the pumpkin workshops were booked. I mentioned that a glass pumpkin wouldn't really do me much good in January and she agreed. I asked if we could come another time instead. She told me that she would speak with the guys who run the workshops and call me back. She didn't seem concerned and it was like she was caught off guard by my questions. On October 4th, I still hadn't heard back. I called the company again and left a voicemail for Janine asking for a return call. Today is October 10th. I just attempted to reach Janine again and it went to her voicemail. I left another message, but it's been 11 days since our first conversation. I don't have high hopes that she will call me back. I understand that things happen. I'm not sure why supplies weren't ordered ahead of time (since we booked 2+ months prior and they had already had a weekend of workshops), but even then I can understand that it might have been out of their control. I'm not an expert in glass supplies, but I would imagine that there has to be more than 1 supplier. All of that aside, there is absolutely no excuse for how it has been handled. I would expect a phone call or email explanation for the cancellation. As a customer, I shouldn't have to make numerous attempts to find out if it was cancelled intentionally or in error. When called, I would expect that a business do everything it can to accommodate those that were cancelled. An additional session could have been opened for those who were still interested in attending a workshop. Ironically, Vessel Studio Glass has a 48 hour cancellation policy in which you will forfeit 100% of your session fee if you cancel within 48 hours of your appointment. They provided only 24 hour cancellation notice to us and were not apologetic in any way. They also did absolutely nothing to try and make it right. I am extremely disappointed with my experience and wish that we would have had the opportunity to attend the workshop that we signed up for.

Their jewelry is locally hand made and goes anywhere from traditional to whimsical motifs including Harry Potter, Disney, Hamilton the musical, mosaics, and even dried flowers! Their booth only carries a limited selection of what's in the store where they have partnered with local food vendors such as Olive and Marlowe, as well as other Pittsburgh vendors to sell you almost anything. You can find stickers, clothing, caps, coasters, keychains, soap, candles and so much more! I was able to chat with Jenny who is one of the owners of the business who told me that they offer various craft classes in the store as well as unique themed parties such as Harry Potter for kids. If attending a class is not your bag because of the pandemic then on occasion you can purchase a craft kit in store and arrange for a Zoom class on a particular day to make your craft. They are very flexible when is comes to meeting people exactly where they are. You can find most anything on their website. Have something in particular in mind? Just contact them and they will accommodate your every need. During my visit I picked up two pairs of earrings with surgical steel backs. Jenny gave me some rubber stoppers with my purchases to insure they won't get lost. I purchased a pretty teardrop stud earring set and the Hamilton inspired earrings. I'm all set to enjoy one of my favorite Broadway musicals-"Hamilton." I also learned they do "Wicked the musical" jewelry if you are fond of that show. It's a great place to buy local made arts and crafts showcasing Pittsburgh. Although they are based in Lawrenceville across from Children's hospital, you may run into this business at various events with the last one I saw them at was VegFest. They were also at Picklesburg. Jenny told me that If I ever make to the shop itself the cheapest parking is at Children's Hospital across the street for $3.00. Not a bad deal if you are looking for parking in the area. Will be looking forward to visiting their store this fall to check out their other offerings.
