My husband and I came here to paint a couple items. There is a TON to choose from here!! They have animals & various figurines, plates, platters, mugs, and other dishes, as well as vases and planters. There's an option to paint or choose some sturdier pottery to do pour glazing on. They also do wheel throwing courses! For painting, we chose a mug and a small planter. The prices are listed on the bottom of each item and it comes with all the supplies, paint, and final firing. There is not table fee here like at other places. The staff is incredible. They remember you by name when you come in and are so helpful with picking out ideas, sharing techniques, and getting colors for you to use. If you don't finish your item the first time, you can come back and finish a 2nd time at no cost! ($10 if you come back after that on the same item.) We came just us the first time, and the 2nd time we came back with our son. It is a very different experience with kids vs adults, but either way is fun! read more

I called on short notice on a Saturday for a group of 12 for a bachelorette party. They were able to accommodate us with a larger table in the back. They were incredible! From explaining the different painting options to the different pieces to the pickup! We had a great time, and all of the pieces were bubble-wrapped, labeled, and had care instructions for pickup. I couldn't recommend Katie's Clay Studio enough for all ages. My mug was $29 before gratuity. read more

Katie's Clay Studio is an absolute gem for clay enthusiasts! They offer a wide range of creative options, from painting your pottery to learning the how to throw on the wheel. What truly stands out is their VIP Open Studio membership, which is an incredible value for anyone interested in pottery, who is able to center and make a basic cylinder. Once you qualify (a low key half hour or so with the studio owner or another instructor--call ahead to schedule) you can play in the wonderland of the wheel and hand building room, with access to the HUGE glaze selection without committing to the mess and expense of a home studio. You also gain access to expert guidance (and some really wonderful potential friends) in the form of the staff and other potters/students. Katie and her team consistently provide exceptional service, going above and beyond--I watched them kindly paint eyes on pieces for people who didn't have steady hands, and help salvage pieces that otherwise wouldn't have turned out well (helping add extra glaze if a piece looked thin, or grinding down sharp edges of glaze if a guest didn't quite listen to instructions and slathered it on too thick). As a studio member, staff kindly helped me trim, create foot rings, and add handles to mugs when I couldn't quite make it into the studio in time. They also helped me moderate the drying of my pieces by covering them if they needed it, or by helping them dry more quickly by placing them on a kiln if they were firing one that day. These are details other studios don't pay attention to, and they really are labors of love and care by the fellow potters and artists on staff, and seeing the amount of work they do, any activity there is great value! You'd spend soooo much time and money trying to replicate the experience and results they provide. The crew is friendly, accommodating, and ready to assist (though it's important to read the room if things are busy--it's a community place and as stated, the staff works super hard behind the scenes to make sure people's projects turn out great, so be kind! You won't see half the work they do to make your painted pieces turn out beautifully, safely packed, and fired in a timely manner). If you aren't into pottery, there's a wide variety of available activities (canvas painting, glass fusing, traditional pottery painting, extra durable stoneware painting, gift shopping from local potters, a selection of crafty gifts, wheel throwing lessons, and more). The main painting room is the perfect venue for an afternoon filled with creativity and socializing for anyone who needs an alternative to "let's do lunch." The full studio is bright, spacious, and easily accommodates bookings for large groups, including a party area which allows guests to bring in food to share, making it enjoyable for pottery enthusiasts of all skill levels. I saw a family reunion, multiple birthday parties, and a work Christmas party for a medical company, and young and old people really seemed to enjoy the chance to relax and try something different. My now boyfriend and I came to Katie's Clay Studio for my birthday on our second date to throw pottery. We did the Wine and Wheel where we brought our own wine and made 2 pots each. You get 2 dates out of this because the first time you go you actually throw the pottery and then 2 weeks later you get to paint it. I have always wanted to make my own pottery on the wheel and being able to finally do this was so much fun and such a great memory. The entire time we were treated so kindly and like we were friends. Everyone was so helpful and available at anytime and happy to teach us. Would love to go back and try something else! read more

Kate is super friendly and this place is the perfect hidden gem! A great place to take the kids! They have a big ever changing selection of new things to paint. The staff is so accommodating and the environment is relaxing and comfortable! Only gave 4 stars because it's pretty expensive and you don't realize how much you end up spending. Katie's Clay Studio is a wonderful place to get your craft on! Many activities to take part in, including: pottery wheels, glass work, canvas painting parties, and paintable pottery figurines, dishware, cups, etc. I was very excited to find this business on Route 8. Its a great outlet when you just need to do some arts and crafts! Prices are reasonable, staff is friendly, and projects are fired and ready for pick up in a very timely manner. They have a fun events calendar and there seems to be something going on at the studio every week. You can reserve space for a fun party (birthdays, "Girls Nights," etc) or take part in one of their prescheduled events. Ladies Night Out has so far been my favorite. A bottle of wine, good friends, and crafts are a great combo! I highly recommend stopping in to see what Katie's Clay has to offer. Make sure you check their website for studio hours, though! They are closed early in the week and their hours vary throughout the rest of the week, so you need to make sure that the day you'd like to visit is one they are open. Katie's is a great place for people to make things to give as gifts. My wife and I each got a hand painted coffee mug from our 2 1/2 year old granddaughter. We absolutely love them and use them everyday. Who doesn't love getting something handmade? They are available for parties, give lessons, are great for kids, and have a number of group activities. read more

I went there for a birthday party and everything was going fine we picked our thing to paint when we first walked in all of the employees were nice except Katie she was very pushy and was rushing us. Then I spotted a clay rabbit I really liked, and since I have some paints at home I decided I wanted to look into it. So I asked the employee (not katie) how much it was she told me it was 10 dollars I said ok that I wanted it and then told my mom how much it was and then the lady came over and talked to my mom and asked her if it was ok, which was the right thing to do. My mom said yes we wanted it she said ok, the employee told my mom that it would be 10 dollars plus tax and left. My mom got me the money (10 dollars and 70 cents) so I took it up and she informed me very rudly that it was $11.77 cents so I asked why and she said it was tax so I said ok and went and got my mom and she came up with me and asked her what was wrong and she said that it was 11.77. My mom told her that the lady that we talked to said it was only 10.00 she replied with "IT IS $11.77" my mom said ok and paid the extra money when we got in the car she took the clay figureen out of the bag and looked at it and the price on the bottom was $10.00. As she was thinking about it she said if anything it should have been closer to $5.00, because we didnt paint it there.We didnt use her paint and she didn't have to fire it, so it should have been cheaper because she didnt have to do very much. WE WILL NOT BE GOING BACK THERE EVER AGAIN!!!! read more
