Met Craig Cowen, the barefoot forger himself, at a run club meetup in the Northside. This guy has lived multiple lives and is just so understated about everything he's done-- he tells us he has a forge and hosts classes, events, (and yoga). The guy is such a character, it's so cool have met him so serendipitously. A friend and I took the *railroad spike to bottle opener* class today and was unaware of how much fun it would be turning a literal railroad spike into a fancy bottle opener. Craig is hilarious, and somehow made antique anvils fascinating. I will now spend the rest of my life with anvil arbitrage opportunities in the back of my mind, all of the time. I'm looking forward to signing up for the knife making class with Andy Alm (starred in season 3 of Forged in Fire) sometime in the future. Can't recommend this place enough. Andy and Craig are obviously passionate about their work, and it shows. 5/5-- will definitely be back for a class in the future. I'd recommend the first class to anyone with a pulse; very approachable for makers of all levels, or just anyone curious and enjoys new experiences. Craig should actually consider stand-up, he's hilarious and even had props. Oh, also, they have other classes like making your own wedding rings and date night metal rose making.

We were able to participate in customizing our rings. The end result was fantastic and we couldn't be happier.

Educational, challenging, and most of all FUN!! I took Craig's Intro to Blacksmithing workshop with four friends and family. Besides learning how to make awesome bottle openers, we learned so much about the history of blacksmithing, what makes a good anvil, the various tools, etc. And we had a blast trading stories and jokes with Craig - he's a wonderful instructor and a flat-out hilarious person. We all agreed we'd love to take another class with Craig - we'll be keeping an eye out for new course offerings! Thanks, Craig, for an amazing day.

We had an incredible experience taking a class a Barefoot Forge, which I got for my husband as a Christmas present. Craig is knowledgeable, funny and a great storyteller. We learned so much and can't wait to take another class and get ourselves set up to forge at home. Super cool experience, great gift idea and good for groups!

I had a blast making a sweet metal rose at The Barefoot Forge. Craig is an awesome teacher and a real renaissance man. I can't wait to go back and make a bottle opener!

My group had a blast this weekend at Craig's bottle opener class! Barefoot Forge was a very cool experience. The bottle openers we made from railroad spikes were really fun and an awesome keepsake.

Such a fantastic experience! Craig is a wonderful teacher and the day was so much fun! It's a lot work but the results far exceeded my expectations! We came from Detroit (only about 4 hour drive!) and loved our trip to Pittsburgh! I could not recommend Barefoot Forge more highly!

We visited Pittsburgh from out of town and we were looking for cool, unique things to do. If your in the same boat, you got to check out THE BAREFOOT FORGE!! it's a lot of fun, you learn interesting facts, and you get to make your own souvenir. Highly recommended.

I took a group of friends to the Barefoot Forge for a bachelor party. Craig was awesome! Very knowledgeable, fun, entertaining, and a great teacher. We all had a blast, and each of us left with bottle openers we forged from railroad spikes. I highly recommend this place to anyone looking to get into forging, have a good time, or get a wedding ring - which I learned, is their specialty!

I signed up a friend and I for a class at Board & Brush. There is a calendar of events and for open project nights you can pick from any of the selections on their website to craft. Each project is priced differently depending on what you choose to do, and after seeing the quality of the pieces I think well worth the cost. Upon arrival, we had aprons and supplies waiting for us. You're encouraged to bring your own snacks and drinks. The staff was super helpful explaining the process for each piece you worked on and came around to help and keep things moving. The stencil part was a little hard but they were there to help and make sure your project came out as expected. There was a wide variety of stains you could choose from for your project and on the walls examples of every color. It was a really fun night and activity. Can't wait to come back and get started on the next one!

The staff is super trained...everything moves like clockwork. Mistakes are easily corrected. Advice is constructively given. And all of our projects came out so cute!! I can't wait to go back! I especially appreciated the staff...they were so positive and helpful. I wish I could single each of them out because nearly every one of them helped us in some way! This is perfect for a ladies night or a birthday celebration. While the pace is fast - there is still time for snacks and drinks!! So fun!!

Their jewelry is locally hand made and goes anywhere from traditional to whimsical motifs including Harry Potter, Disney, Hamilton the musical, mosaics, and even dried flowers! Their booth only carries a limited selection of what's in the store where they have partnered with local food vendors such as Olive and Marlowe, as well as other Pittsburgh vendors to sell you almost anything. You can find stickers, clothing, caps, coasters, keychains, soap, candles and so much more! I was able to chat with Jenny who is one of the owners of the business who told me that they offer various craft classes in the store as well as unique themed parties such as Harry Potter for kids. If attending a class is not your bag because of the pandemic then on occasion you can purchase a craft kit in store and arrange for a Zoom class on a particular day to make your craft. They are very flexible when is comes to meeting people exactly where they are. You can find most anything on their website. Have something in particular in mind? Just contact them and they will accommodate your every need. During my visit I picked up two pairs of earrings with surgical steel backs. Jenny gave me some rubber stoppers with my purchases to insure they won't get lost. I purchased a pretty teardrop stud earring set and the Hamilton inspired earrings. I'm all set to enjoy one of my favorite Broadway musicals-"Hamilton." I also learned they do "Wicked the musical" jewelry if you are fond of that show. It's a great place to buy local made arts and crafts showcasing Pittsburgh. Although they are based in Lawrenceville across from Children's hospital, you may run into this business at various events with the last one I saw them at was VegFest. They were also at Picklesburg. Jenny told me that If I ever make to the shop itself the cheapest parking is at Children's Hospital across the street for $3.00. Not a bad deal if you are looking for parking in the area. Will be looking forward to visiting their store this fall to check out their other offerings.
