There is a BYOB option and if you plan to drink you are required to sign a form that says they didn't give you the alcohol. Most people bring wine, however you can bring beer, mixed drinks, or non-alcoholic beverages. They provide cork screws and plastic cups in addition to everything that you need to paint. Food is also allowed, however space is limited and there is not a lot of table space after canvases, paint brushes, and paint are all laid out. The reason that they received a 4 out of 5 rather than a 5 is because the instructors are really a hit or miss. While all of them do display artistic abilities, some are just better teachers than others are. If you find an instructor that you like, try to stick with them when you sign up for classes online.

My sister-in-law has been wanting to try one of these painting classes and I saw that they had just opened a new place in Irwin. So, we decided to check it out. The class was on a Friday night in June and was supposed to be from 7-9pm. The class was nearly full....since there were several small groups of ladies, as well as a bridal party of about 10. Luckily, we got there before most people and were able to get seats up front. This is a BYOB event, and it appeared mostly everyone (including us) brought a bottle of wine (or several) and snacks. The instructor was very nice. At the beginning, she gave us her credentials so we knew she was an actual painter with experience and not just someone they pulled off the street. She reviewed what we were going to paint and went at a nice pace. Actually, probably a little slow for me but it's better than her rushing through. She also gave us free reign and "artistic liberties", so the paintings didn't all have to look exactly alike. It was a fun event and I would love to go again. Biggest pro...the class was only $20! And I've seen other places as high as $35 or $40. The only reason I didn't give this event 5 stars is the following: It was waaayyy too long. Supposed to be over at 9pm; we didn't leave until well after 10:30. The biggest cause for this was when we got there at around ten minutes til seven, the instructor was just starting to set up. She did state that she had everything set up, but then a last-minute birthday party booked, so they had torn all of her things down, and she had to get them all back out. Not very professional of the company. We didn't really get started until about 7:35-ish. Plus, with a big class and people asking her questions, I think it just took longer than anticipated. Also, it was a bit unorganized, which I do give leniency to since it's a new gig. I signed the two of us up online and also paid online. But, really, how was the instructor to know? We could have just strolled in from the street and said we paid. The site offered no receipt or confirmation number to take with you to the event. I asked the instructor if she received our payment, and she stated that she gets paid from the company, and frankly has no idea who paid and who didn't. Overall, a fun night out. Would go again!

It was something we have always wanted to do, but it always sold out before we had the chance to. As the glass blowing experience approached, I took the day off work and we coordinated an entire day around the session. We were very excited to go. On September 27th, we received our confirmation email reminding us of our upcoming session. On September 29th at 3:07 pm, we received an automatic cancellation email that our appointment had been cancelled and we needed to reschedule. The email provided no explanation for the cancellation. There was no additional email sent and no contact attempted by phone. Confused, my boyfriend tried the number provided and left a message. He also sent a Facebook message. Concerned, I called the company as well and after 2 calls, reached Janine (spelling?). She explained that they didn't receive the glass supplies needed for the session and that they were cancelling all sessions on Saturday and all sessions on Sunday. I asked if they were going to reschedule or offer an additional session for those who have already signed up. I was informed that I could reschedule after January 1st, 2018 because the rest of the pumpkin workshops were booked. I mentioned that a glass pumpkin wouldn't really do me much good in January and she agreed. I asked if we could come another time instead. She told me that she would speak with the guys who run the workshops and call me back. She didn't seem concerned and it was like she was caught off guard by my questions. On October 4th, I still hadn't heard back. I called the company again and left a voicemail for Janine asking for a return call. Today is October 10th. I just attempted to reach Janine again and it went to her voicemail. I left another message, but it's been 11 days since our first conversation. I don't have high hopes that she will call me back. I understand that things happen. I'm not sure why supplies weren't ordered ahead of time (since we booked 2+ months prior and they had already had a weekend of workshops), but even then I can understand that it might have been out of their control. I'm not an expert in glass supplies, but I would imagine that there has to be more than 1 supplier. All of that aside, there is absolutely no excuse for how it has been handled. I would expect a phone call or email explanation for the cancellation. As a customer, I shouldn't have to make numerous attempts to find out if it was cancelled intentionally or in error. When called, I would expect that a business do everything it can to accommodate those that were cancelled. An additional session could have been opened for those who were still interested in attending a workshop. Ironically, Vessel Studio Glass has a 48 hour cancellation policy in which you will forfeit 100% of your session fee if you cancel within 48 hours of your appointment. They provided only 24 hour cancellation notice to us and were not apologetic in any way. They also did absolutely nothing to try and make it right. I am extremely disappointed with my experience and wish that we would have had the opportunity to attend the workshop that we signed up for.

I am not sure what was going on. The venue was cool. an open area with art. What more can you ask? The art was fun. The venue provided an opportunity to talk with other viewers and the artist. It was just a big social. A great thing to do if you want to meet some new people and have a new experience.

Out of all the galleries and creative spaces in Pittsburgh KCC goes above and beyond for local artists new, emerging, and seasoned. We're treated with respect, care and appreciation. Jennifer was extremely helpful in providing information to my boyfriend and I since last night was our first time being here. I can say with confidence that it certainly won't be our last. Kevin Mosely was a speaker featured at Ryan Arts last night and he was speaking on Black history and his experiences as an activist. We started out socializing in the art gallery, which at the time was featuring art for the African American Celebration of the Arts. You could even vote for your favorite to be in the running to win a prize, but all the art was so incredible it's been tough to pick a favorite! The gallery had such a cozy feel to it that it almost felt like I was somewhere I'd been many times before. They had small bites of fruit, veggies, cheese and meat for guests to snack on, and even a few desserts. There was a table with some wine on it if you preferred something to sip on before Kevin took the stage for the night. Soon enough we headed into the auditorium, which was nice and spacious. After Kevin finished answering questions from the crowd, we were welcomed back into the gallery to take pictures and speak with him before we left. Jennifer gave us 2 packets of information on upcoming programs such as yoga, cooking classes, etc. She gave us 2 so I could share with a friend of mine that just moved to the McKees Rocks area which was super nice of her! From the outside it's hard to tell how big this place is, but it has the gallery, auditorium, ceramics studio, kitchen, area for painting, reading, and more. There is something for everyone here regardless of your age and artistic ability, and I can't begin to explain how welcomed we felt during our first visit. Can't wait to see what's in store for the rest of the year!
