Mom's Night out!
Nicole F.

My second time there in two weeks and I love it! Ladies Night is such a good idea; I highly recommend it. And Coach Brandi was a joy; so fun and helpful. What a great night! I'm telling everyone to book a night out at Las Hachas! It's so great to see all the new businesses in New Kensington. I grew up here and love this city so much. If you haven't been downtown in awhile, you definitely need to head down for a night out or a sunny afternoon!

SpringHill Suites Pittsburgh Mills - The Fitness Room

SpringHill Suites Pittsburgh Mills

Watch out for the Potholes !!…read more This Marriott property is located near the Pittsburgh Mills mall. Once a thriving shopping mall, it is now close to its end, with many of the stores and shops closed permanently. The SpringHill Suites Pittsburgh is a very modern and clean hotel near the stores and restaurants still open in the area. Be careful driving into the hotel, as the roads leading into the hotel are full of massive potholes, so you have been warned. This hotel is a suites hotel and has most of the amenities that the brand usually has. This includes meeting rooms, a large lobby, a pool, a well-equipped fitness room and a very good free breakfast. My King suite was laid out in the typical SpringHill Suites format. The room has a living room that separates the bed from the desk with a wall. The bathrooms are clean and bright and have a good ceiling fan. There is a small area when you enter the room where you'll find a mini-refrigerator, coffee stations and a microwave. The rooms also have some modern touches, such as USB outlets and other easily accessible electrical outlets for more devices. The wifi is your standard Marriott Wi-Fi, with an additional tier for Gold members and above at no charge. The breakfast included hot and cold choices as well as fresh fruits, cereals, oatmeal and other items. During my visit, I had a good selection of eggs and meats to choose from. Overall, a great experience, in a modern suites-style hotel, with helpful staff and great amenities. Just watch out for the potholes when you drive in and out of the hotel.

Highly recommend hosting your next event here! First of all the landscape and venue are beautiful!…read moreYou pull up and you feel like royalty. Everything is so elegant and the layout of the property is immaculate. When you walk inside the main area, everything is just as beautiful as it is on the outside. The ballroom is huge and everything is brand new due to a remodel they did earlier this year. But the main reason for the 5 stars is the staff. Everyone is so nice and so helpful. They always had a smile on their face! I will definitely be hosting any of my events here in the future!

I recently photographed a wedding at Longue Vue and left the day in awe of the venue…read more When I say the view is stunning - I mean it. A gorgeous view of the beautiful hills in Pittsburgh and a winding river. The estate/mansion itself is beautiful stone with slate tile roofing. It truly feels like a castle tucked away on a private villa. I've photographed many weddings over the years but Longue Vue will go down in history as having one of the best staffs I've experienced. Any time myself or either of the other two photographers had a question - we were quickly given an answered and offered any additional help we'd need. And, a perk - we only had to ask about our dinner twice. (Wedding photographers know this is a game changer and a far cry from the usual 3 or 4 times I need to ask the staff for a plated dinner on any given wedding day.) After asking the second person about our dinner, we were served within one minute by an incredibly kind waiter with a smile on his face. We were also served drinks (seltzer for my second photographer, pop for me) during "non-serving" hours by a nice bartender who immediately understood that we hadn't been able to grab drinks earlier and knew how thirsty we must be. Both the bartender and server checked on us during our meal (which we were eating in the living room, away from guests) to ensure we had every single thing we could possibly need. The gentleman who lead us around on the golf carts was also a stellar employee. I cannot say enough great things about him. The ONLY downfall is that the archways are a really popular spot for portraits. (Rightfully so. They're gorgeous!) But they are also the main entrance and exit from the parking areas, so there are regularly cars going through them. If you are a bride/groom and want your photos specifically there - plan ahead. Plan for extra time for those portraits to allow for the time cars need to go through and then for your photographer to set up the shot again. I look forward to visiting again soon.

Strip District

I visited Steel City Axes as part of a private event. Not only do they have Axe Throwing (Which is…read morevery FUN by the way), but they also have Escape Rooms (I believe there are three different rooms (We got to pick one of the three at our event), and my wife and I chose the "80's Dance Club" room, which was a TON of FUN!!! We were partnered with three other people that we hadn't met before, and we were given a briefing, and then were set loose to try and solve the puzzle, and win the challenge before the allotted time was up. My wife and I are both in our 50's, so this room was perfectly themed for our age (but really, I feel just about any age would still have fun in here, but it was even more meaningful, because we lived the 80's life). The music was perfect, I knew every single song, and the effects, were spot on, and it almost felt like were going back in time. Now, I don't want to spoil the fun, and tell the secrets of this room, but let me just say, that this room was so fun, it had us dancing and singing just like we were at a dance club back in the day!!! Bottom line for us, we did NOT solve the room, as we got stuck on a "time waster" and we lost a lot of valuable time, but my wife and I both want to go back and try it again some day, as well as try out the other themed rooms also. Now, in my opinion, the Escape Room was our favorite part of Steel City Axes, but we also enjoyed the actual Axe Throwing too!! We were on site for a little over two hours, and it took 60 minutes to do the Escape Room. The other sixty minutes was spent mingling with others, and taking turns playing with the axes. We threw axes before our Escape Room, and after. I got the hang of it pretty quickly, and got a few bullseyes, but my wife had a harder learning curve. Eventually she figured it out, and was getting the axes to stick into the target, but her axes (and a few for me too) ended up bouncing off the board. We felt very safe, as there was a staff person watching and making sure we followed all the rules (and gave some tips too). Lastly, I must talk about the decor and ambience of the business, which had a funky-Victorian parlour feel to it. There was antique furniture, paintings, taxidermy (stuffed animals wearing cute clothes), and it felt really homey to me, and had a welcoming/ inviting vibe (Check out some of my photos to see how cool it is). Also, they sell a variety of drinks, to include some of my favorite soda pops, made locally by Natrona Bottling / Red Ribbon Sodas . . . I didn't buy any this time, because our party provided bottled waters (and popcorn), but when I come back, I will certainly patronize the snack bar area. I also think I heard that it was BYO, if you choose to partake in an adult beverage. If I had any feedback to improve my experience, it would be to provide some sort of grade at the end of the Escape Room, such as "You completed 11 of 15 challenges (here's where you went wrong, etc.)." We really were kind of left hanging, we knew we failed, but didn't know by how much. Also, our room guide was a little bit soft-spoken, and I had a bit of a hard time hearing everything he said (Note: I usually wear hearing aids, but because of the pandemic, I stopped wearing them because if I wear a mask it doesn't fit properly when my hearing aids are in (BTW, Masking WAS NOT required here if you are vaccinated, but was optional (Many in our group chose to wear masks, and that's fine with me (I brought a mask with me just in case it got too crowded)). Overall though, I still give this place FIVE stars, and both my wife and I look forward to coming back and trying to solve those Escape Rooms again some day . . . BIG CHEERS for Steel City Axes!!!!!

I really liked that there was an option for a "no touch" check-in & there were signs everywhere reminding people to wear a mask, hand sanitizer available, & they wiped the axes off after each person in our group was done with their throwing turn. There are stools & tables to hang out on & fridges (!) for BYOB. Instructors were very good at helping me perfect my throwing technique. I'd say perfect for a group of 4-10 people.
