One of the bullseyes, or possibly the last shot of the night that I made look like one
    Sameena R.

TL;DR: this place is awesome, especially for beginners. Don't be a jerk and don't get sloppy drunk, obviously! You're playing with axes! I've been here three times so far in the past two and a half years, and it's only been 3 because I don't live that close. But I continuously return to this place because for me, it's a tried and true classic. This review only pertains to the Millvale location, but I'm interested in the Cranberrg one as well. Having thrown axes once before at another axe throwing place in 2019, I met up with a friend in August of 2020 at this one. Don't remember much besides it being really fun, almost all the employees wore masks, and everyone kept socially distant. It still didn't keep the axe coach from teaching us some tips and tricks! Yet that wasn't as fun as the second time, when I came last fall with friends. Had a super dope coach whose name escapes me, and he helped us a ton with form, angle, and techniques. I feel bad that I didn't tip him, I made sure to do that the next time. Which was this past weekend. For my 30th, I booked a 6- to 12- person reservation for two hours, but come that time, five of the eight that were confirmed to come out dropped out within a couple hours of the actual event. I was pretty damn upset, to say the least. Nevertheless, Button was our coach, and she made sure to make our time fun, and get this. She bought one of the axes they sell, and gave it to me as a present for my birthday. I damn near cried. It was so nice of her to do! Me and the two friends who showed up had an awesome time, and frankly, I'm looking to join the throwing league.

It was my first time and the I had a great experience. The booked a two hour slot online. The check-in process was pretty seamless. We had a coach who guided us and also introduced us to few interesting games. It was fun and a good group activity. I wish they had food available. We had to order iron born pizza. But overall a good experience. I Recommend.

The extra point green dot! Nailed it!

We did a team building event here on a Friday afternoon that was a total blast. They help you figure out how to throw the axes (one-handed or two-handed) and give you a few different lengths and weights of axes to choose from which is great. A few folks in our group were very good at it (our boss even hit the small green dot which awards 7 points which blew our minds) and then the rest of us were hit or miss, literally. They have a full bar and their Bloody Mary was a decent way to start. They also have beers on tap and bottled and you can order food delivery from Frank's Chicken right up the street. There is a small vending machine with chips and stuff too. The place is well organized and the coaches were very helpful and supportive. I would definitely go back.

I honestly wasn't sure what to expect going here. But my friend was in town and wanted to go, so I played along. It was a blast! Our instructor Neil went over the safety procedures and throwing techniques since I've never done it before, and we went to work. There are cages that separate the throwing lanes and a few protocols in place to ensure no one has an ax coming at them. It took a bit of practice before an ax hit the board, but by the end it got much easier, and even got a few bullseye's along the way. There's a bar on the premises and a few places that deliver food nearby. The only drawback is the parking situation, but we found street parking a few blocks away without an issue. I had so much fun with it that I'm considering joining a league.

Other than our initial check in which the employee seemed annoyed to be there, everyone else was super friendly and helpful and seemed as though they wanted to be there. We did curling for an hour. It was super interesting as I have never done it before. You pushed the weights down the ice and the coaches sent them back to you. So no sweeping of the ice like the olympics but still a cool experience. After that we did 2 hours of axe throwing. Once again our coach was great. I'll admit I was getting tired after the first hour because we have already been there for 2! The coaches ran games and tournaments for us which made it less stressful trying to keep scores and rules and left it to be more fun. They also have a bar to purchase alcohol. You are allowed to bring your own snacks. Lastly the gps takes you to the front of the building but you have to go through the alleys to get to the back of the building for the parking.

Lots of fun! We had a great coach in Hannah, she taught us some quick safety rules, then some excellent coaching and fine tuning after that. It's both easier and harder than it looks. I could hit the bull's-eye several times, but it's hard to learn to throw with consistentcy. It's great group building activity, so I would suggest that you go with a group. Sometimes they have growler nights in conjunction with Grist House, which is about a block away. The staff is very professional, but also fun and encouraging.

    Axe throwing stalls.

What a fun and special experience! Came here with coworkers for a team outing event. Upon entry, everyone needs to fill out waiver forms on their tablets at the front desk. After that, we got our assigned axe throwing stall. Our instructor was great walking through the safely guidelines & demonstrating how to properly throw the axes. She also corrected our posture and positioning if needed so that chances of making a hit are upped :) SO SATISFYING to finally see your own axe hit and sink into the plywood bulls-eye board. Everyone on our team was able to make a hit on or near the bulls-eye by the time our rounds ended. Definitely recommend giving this place a try for some fun, friendly sportsmanship :D

So much fun!!! It's BYOB (no hard liquor) and you can bring food in too to set up at these long picnic type benches set up in your assigned area. I'm sure we had the fanciest spread with a basket full of crackers and Brie and other cheeses and meats. They also have vending machines if you forgot to bring snacks. We had beer and wine too. They give you a lesson and there's a round robin competition so the person assigned to you to give you throwing tips and keep score can set up the bracket for the championship round. Our guy was Patrick and he was super awesome and fun and didn't make you feel bad for being an awful axe thrower. We had no idea what we were coming in to but we had the best time ever. It's a big open space so you could see the other groups too - everyone was having a blast. I did not come out the victor but everyone had loads of fun and wants to come back. So find your best flannel shirt and head down to Millvale for an 'axe'cellent time (ok that was corny).

It's BYOB which is fine, and the pizza you can order from them was good (greasy, but to me that's great!).

It was slightly challenging to identify the entrance to the business - it's the same as LumberJAxes. The space is huge and mainly dedicated to axe throwing, but there's a large bar with a good selection of beer on draft, some bottles, and some canned cocktails. The gameshow room is off to the side by one of the entrances. Our "host" took our group in and had us split into two teams of 10. Over the course of an hour and a half, we played several rounds of probably 5 or 6 different games. The host was fun and energetic, doing her best to keep everyone engaged and involved. This was a fun and unique experience priced at $40/pp. They have tons of tables where you can eat food that you order from a local business, clean bathrooms, and a parking lot located somewhat behind the building. Would recommend for a fun indoor activity for a group!

Not only do they have Axe Throwing (Which is…read morevery FUN by the way), but they also have Escape Rooms (I believe there are three different rooms (We got to pick one of the three at our event), and my wife and I chose the "80's Dance Club" room, which was a TON of FUN!!! We were partnered with three other people that we hadn't met before, and we were given a briefing, and then were set loose to try and solve the puzzle, and win the challenge before the allotted time was up. My wife and I are both in our 50's, so this room was perfectly themed for our age (but really, I feel just about any age would still have fun in here, but it was even more meaningful, because we lived the 80's life). The music was perfect, I knew every single song, and the effects, were spot on, and it almost felt like were going back in time. Now, I don't want to spoil the fun, and tell the secrets of this room, but let me just say, that this room was so fun, it had us dancing and singing just like we were at a dance club back in the day!!! Bottom line for us, we did NOT solve the room, as we got stuck on a "time waster" and we lost a lot of valuable time, but my wife and I both want to go back and try it again some day, as well as try out the other themed rooms also. Now, in my opinion, the Escape Room was our favorite part of Steel City Axes, but we also enjoyed the actual Axe Throwing too!! We were on site for a little over two hours, and it took 60 minutes to do the Escape Room. The other sixty minutes was spent mingling with others, and taking turns playing with the axes. We threw axes before our Escape Room, and after. I got the hang of it pretty quickly, and got a few bullseyes, but my wife had a harder learning curve. Eventually she figured it out, and was getting the axes to stick into the target, but her axes (and a few for me too) ended up bouncing off the board. We felt very safe, as there was a staff person watching and making sure we followed all the rules (and gave some tips too). Lastly, I must talk about the decor and ambience of the business, which had a funky-Victorian parlour feel to it. There was antique furniture, paintings, taxidermy (stuffed animals wearing cute clothes), and it felt really homey to me, and had a welcoming/ inviting vibe (Check out some of my photos to see how cool it is). Also, they sell a variety of drinks, to include some of my favorite soda pops, made locally by Natrona Bottling / Red Ribbon Sodas . . . I didn't buy any this time, because our party provided bottled waters (and popcorn), but when I come back, I will certainly patronize the snack bar area. I also think I heard that it was BYO, if you choose to partake in an adult beverage. If I had any feedback to improve my experience, it would be to provide some sort of grade at the end of the Escape Room, such as "You completed 11 of 15 challenges (here's where you went wrong, etc.)." We really were kind of left hanging, we knew we failed, but didn't know by how much. Also, our room guide was a little bit soft-spoken, and I had a bit of a hard time hearing everything he said (Note: I usually wear hearing aids, but because of the pandemic, I stopped wearing them because if I wear a mask it doesn't fit properly when my hearing aids are in (BTW, Masking WAS NOT required here if you are vaccinated, but was optional (Many in our group chose to wear masks, and that's fine with me (I brought a mask with me just in case it got too crowded)). Overall though, I still give this place FIVE stars, and both my wife and I look forward to coming back and trying to solve those Escape Rooms again some day . . . BIG CHEERS for Steel City Axes!!!!!

I really liked that there was an option for a "no touch" check-in & there were signs everywhere reminding people to wear a mask, hand sanitizer available, & they wiped the axes off after each person in our group was done with their throwing turn. There are stools & tables to hang out on & fridges (!) for BYOB. Instructors were very good at helping me perfect my throwing technique. I'd say perfect for a group of 4-10 people.
