It's already enough of a picker-upper that Yellow Lantern Café serves delicious intercontinental comfort food and drinks (their watermelon shake is so refreshing!) with an unlimited coffee self-service counter. But the clincher to this quaint, humble restaurant is its indulgent and breathtaking I-can-see-my-house-from-here view of the whole city. It's arguably one of the best views in the metro. Looking to milk your Antipolo adventure? After your meal at Yellow Lantern, head to the spa in the same building after your meal to unwind, then emerge totally renewed, and head right back to the gastropub on the 2nd floor of Yellow Lantern to grab some drinks and play beer pong.

It's actually mostly Filipino and American food, with rice meals, pastas, and pizzas. Still, you can't be disappointed too long when you relax into the place which is this huge space with that incredible overlooking view of Metro Manila that upper Antipolo's famous for. The place is great at sunset. It's also nicely decorated, which you can more fully appreciate at night when the warm and inviting yellow, brown, and white colors get illuminated by the quirky light fixtures all around. The food is okay. Nothing special but definitely among the better ones along the Sumulong highway strip which is filled with more streetside carinderias than actual restaurants. I suggest you go full-on with the Filipino classics here, like the Crispy Pata, Sisig, and the All-Day Breakfasts- Boneless Bangus, Tapa, etc. That comes with unlimited self-service coffee & tea too, which would really be quite satisfying on a quiet weekend morning.

Food - we ordered fried dalag fish (meaty), fried hito, tortang talong (eggplant) which was quite large and perfectly cooked, crispy pata, grilled pork belly, fresh vegetable lumpiang ubod (generous amount of crunchy ubod (bamboo shoot) sprinkled with crushed peanuts and chopped green mango with salted eggs. My favorites were the fresh lumpia and the tortang talong. The preparations were traditional and classic Filipino - no twists, no pretense. The prices were very reasonable. Just basic good food that won't break the bank.

Today it's a beautiful 3 story house at the top of the mountain overlooking Laguna Bay, Manila & Makati. We stopped at Buhay Kawayan to grab a late lunch w/my buddy, my wife & 2 brother in laws (yes they follow us everywhere lol). Buhay Kawayan is a very popular spot in Taytay on Manila E Road Barangay Pag asa. We ordered some of our favs like crispy pata, Bangus, squid adobo, veges dish w/bitter melon, yellow squash, okra, tomato, onion & garlic. Eggplant omelette & of course rice. Filipinos seem to eat rice @ every meal. (No Carbs when I return to the US). Excellent food & service one of the few Filipino restaurants that had quick service. They operated at a slower pace (Island life).

With a separate cafe/bakery and buffet restaurant, we chose to check out their buffet. On weekday lunch, its just P399/head and P499 for dinner. We tried the lunch buffet and no food stands out. All their food items are all over the place. They have sisig, kare kare, spicy salmon head, chicken teriyaki, stuffed tofu, baked seafood, buffalo chicken wings, and roast chicken for their mains. It was really disappointing, especially, we know, for a fact, that chef Boy is one of the partner. Like the seafood chowder didn't taste like it. It just tasted like roux + stock + vegetables. It's more of a vegetable soup than seafood chowder. There an absence of seafood in the soup. The kare kare tasted like thickened sweet peanut butter sauce that was colored with annatto. The baked seafood has old prawns and squid that is about to spoil. The shrimp was mushy already inside the shell. It has a fishy taste already. This wasn't my first time dining here. It has improved over the course of 5 months, but it needs alot of work to compete in the industry. It's unfortunate to see restaurants that partner with famed chefs just to use their name for marketing purposes. The price doesn't justify the quality of the food. Your paying the same amount to produce quality food, it's how restaurants execute an present the dish that makes it food good. It's not the price tag. #TheFoodCrawlers #OngsFoodprints #SplatMNL

I was invited by the team behind 7 Flavors to dine at their restaurant so I can write a review…read moreabout it. When I entered the establishment, I was surprised to see that it was empty. Turned out, the buffet display was located at the second floor. There were limited offerings but they made sure to include all the basics. They had salad, tacos, sushi, pizza, fish, vegetables, roast beef, and dessert. Food was promising but almost all of them were no longer hot when I got them from the buffet table which was why I didn't enjoy eating them so much. It was an average dining experience for me.
