The food is so tasty. I highly recommend the barbecue! The combo includes two ulams, noodles, rice, and iced tea. I was really full but I finished it all. I'm so grateful the man that worked there told me that two of the ulams I was going to pick were based off the same sauce so I did not end up with the same tasting food. Even my meat eating sister loved the food here! If you're short on time and don't have a chance to try out other vegetarian restaurants here (due to meat eating traveling companions and a bunch of family living here) you need to at least come here!

It serves Filipino staple foods like Kare-Kare, Pansit, Beef and Broccoli, Barbecue, and many more. The only twist is all of these dishes don't contain any kind of meat in them. How can you have Beef and Broccoli without beef? Is there even a type of Barbecue that's not made out of meat? Well, Bodhi uses tofu as a meat substitute. Their food tastes so good, you can't even tell that everything is made out of tofu. It's way healthier and cheaper. I usually have issues concerning my weight. I just can't imagine myself looking fat. Whenever I feel like I am gaining a few pounds, I just stop eating at fast food restaurants and I go to healthier options like Bodhi. They have a wide selection of meals to choose from and all of their dishes are sold at a very fair price.

It's not an everyday place you can dine at when you're a student on a budget but the meals here are still and always have been student friendly... like my go to veggie bopis or veggie burger. Likha Diwa sa Gulod in Krus na Ligas, a few minutes away from the main campus complex of UP Diliman, is a special retreat for those who want to break away from fast food and commercialized food establishments. The surroundings remind one of a secret garden, and the vibe of the place puts one at ease immediately. It is inviting, relaxing and very friendly to the soul. Likha Diwa is a vegetarian and seafood restaurant first and foremost, but it is also a community center for freethinkers and artistic individuals. The premises double as an art gallery where thought-provoking installations and exhibits are mounted on a regular basis. Guests can choose to sit on the low tables, or sit on soft throw pillows on the floor. The menu is extensive, with offerings ranging from Filipino favorites to Western dishes with a healthy and vegetarian twists. I particularly love the kare kare, which is a generous plate of tender vegetables, soft tofu and veggie-tuna meat (a kind of texturized vegetable protein that is a good and healthy substitute for pork or beef). I would usually order it with a serving of mountain rice, which is known to be healthier than white, well-milled rice. I also love the vegetable curry, which has the right amount of pungent and strong Indian spices. Likha Diwa has a very affordable buffet spread every Saturday. For P200, customers can eat as much healthy vegetarian food as they want. The themes are rotated every now so often, with Italian, Greek and Indian spreads repeating after several weekends. The place also sells good local coffee from Kalinga and Benguet .If you want to start eating healthy, try easing into Likha Diwa's menu which offers mostly delicious and heartwarming favorites. The dishes are packed with flavor and vitamis and so rich in character, you will forget that you are eating healthy. Furthermore, Likha Diwa also has a small eco store and gift shop where you can by organic cleaning agents and toiletries, and local handicrafts such as weavings, fabrics and decor.

Apparently at many dining establishments, advertised "vegetarian" items do end up containing fish or animal-based ingredients. So yeah, I was most definitely on high alert! Thankfully my non-plant based colleague I traveled with had previously dined at Pipino and was cool with us going there, so this ended up being my first meal in Manila. We ordered an appetizer (Unfortunately I cannot remember WHAT - perhaps buffalo fried cauliflower? Whatever it was, it was good because we ate it all!), a margarita, and Tofu Sisig with Garlic Rice. So . . . the margarita was neon green and comprised of . . . vodka? It was just lightly sweet, no tarty margarita flavors. Maybe it was Midori liquor mixed with vodka? I could have asked but I didn't want to potentially be insulting. Not going to lie, that threw me off and made me apprehensive about the rest of the meal. I mean, it wasn't undrinkable, but it just wasn't a margarita. Maybe there are other renditions of a magarita and I'm being an ignorant American - totally possible! Thankfully the Tofu Sisig ended up being quite delicious, I would say, even unique? My colleague remarked that it tasted interesting, but "not bad," hah. I quite enjoyed it. There were an ample amount of tofu chunks in a seemingly coconutty, but slightly tart thick sauce. I suppose it was calamansi (Filipino limes) mixed with coconut cream, soy sauce, and I'm not sure what else? I'm very unfamiliar with Filipino cuisine, so I can't really say! But I thought it was quite tasty, and honestly, it was even tastier the next day, cold, before my morning run, hah. The rice was rice, pretty decent and paired well with the tofu! Service was prompt and the prices were affordable! If I ever do receive the opportunity to return to the Manila, I would be quite keen on revisiting Pipino!

We had no idea where it was at all, but call it fate, as we turned onto Malingap, the street of our favorite shawarma joint (saving that for another review), we stumbled upon it right after - and on the day of their post-renovation re-opening! Good timing, universe. We started off the meal with dessert (because that's the best way to go, am I right?), vegan chocolate chip cookies all around. I could've eaten the entire dozen because the balance between the dark cacao and the sweet-but-not-too-sweet muscovado sugar was almost addictive. Their mushroom salpicao and cilantro soup were also good, and although I thought the dalandan balsamic vinaigrette of their Wicked Walnut salad was too sour and their stuffed portobello cheeseburger too mushy, it was redeemed by my favorite dish of the bunch - the veggie triangles! That curried chili sauce was the bomb: cold to the touch, but surprisingly hot and mildly spicy in my mouth. Take it from their menu: maybe being a vegetarian, or at least learning to appreciate this fine cuisine, really is the best thing you can do for yourself and for the planet.

See, I don't think a lot of people (myself included) know how to season vegetables well, or at least not right away, not with a lot of practice and research. This creates a misleading mindset for everyone else that veggies are bland and are "rabbit food", "cardboard", and even more depressing, a mere side dish to your meat. What I love about Edgy Veggy is how well-seasoned their food is. Even the rice included in their rice meals aren't simple, but flavored with spices and herbs and it really elevates your vegetable munching experience. I've tried a lot of veggie burgers, but so far, Edgy Veggy's mushroom burger patties are the most flavorful ones I've had in a long while. The texture's excellent, not mushy or too enveloped in breading unlike some veg burger patties, and the shiitake mushroom flavor is quite distinct, which I love. The Mushroom Panino is also quite good. However, I'm not a big fan of their Mushroom Longganisa much, as the rough/sandy texture doesn't sit too well with me, and the rice is quite too punch-y and overwhelming for my taste. If you're with friends, I really recommend you get the soy chai milk tea pot! Great to share and the chai flavor is so calming. In a perfect world, one where I actually have a lot of money, I would eat here every day. But, back to reality--this place is a bit overpriced. But, compared to a lot of similar, "healthy" restaurants in areas like say, BGC, this place offers better value for money.

And thankfully we have Edgy Veggy in Kapitolyo just in case we feel too guilty for eating sinfully Silantro, Madmarks, and Locavore too many times, and you just want something healthy for a change. Edgy Veggy offers a lot of tasty options for all types of vegetarians out there, from casual "I just wanna eat veggies today" types to Vegan options. Personally, I will swear by the Fried Dumplings, The Fried Risotto Balls, the Marinara, and the Mushroom Callos on Rice. Yes, I've been here quite a few times, and yes, I love meat as much as the next person. It's really a testament to how well the people behind Edgy Veggy know their stuff. Now if you excuse me, I want to try their Longganiza and Rice meal...

Upon entering the restaurant, you're met with a feeling of home. The cozy ambiance, the wooden tables and chairs, the scent of organic food... it excited me. I'm not a huge fan of pastas and noodles in general, so don't expect me to say anything about them. But what I could recommend is the Forest Salad, the Beef Kebab, the Braised Bacon, and the Fresh Guyabano Shake. The meats are so juicy and tender, the salad was light and flavorful, and the Guyabano shake was really fresh and refreshing. We had to wait a long while before we got our orders, though, and it was kind of bad for me that time when I was starving to death. Still, I love how organic everything is and how it supports local farmers. Plus points for helping out farming families in the provinces!
