The food is so tasty. I highly recommend the barbecue! The combo includes two ulams, noodles, rice, and iced tea. I was really full but I finished it all. I'm so grateful the man that worked there told me that two of the ulams I was going to pick were based off the same sauce so I did not end up with the same tasting food. Even my meat eating sister loved the food here! If you're short on time and don't have a chance to try out other vegetarian restaurants here (due to meat eating traveling companions and a bunch of family living here) you need to at least come here!

It serves Filipino staple foods like Kare-Kare, Pansit, Beef and Broccoli, Barbecue, and many more. The only twist is all of these dishes don't contain any kind of meat in them. How can you have Beef and Broccoli without beef? Is there even a type of Barbecue that's not made out of meat? Well, Bodhi uses tofu as a meat substitute. Their food tastes so good, you can't even tell that everything is made out of tofu. It's way healthier and cheaper. I usually have issues concerning my weight. I just can't imagine myself looking fat. Whenever I feel like I am gaining a few pounds, I just stop eating at fast food restaurants and I go to healthier options like Bodhi. They have a wide selection of meals to choose from and all of their dishes are sold at a very fair price.

Customer service was good, restaurant was cozy, and food was out of this world. I came today and saw they were in a new location. Initially felt "cool" but immediately was greeted with a cold demeanor. Half of our table are Filipino born and raised, while my sister and I are born in the US. I asked for bottled water and they had one bottle left. My dad (born in the Philippines), watched the lady who initially sat us down who mocked me for asking for bottled water. I had my back to the restaurant the entire time, so I didn't see a lot of the interaction, but my dad saw and understood it all. We ordered the sisig - undercooked. The pancit hab hab - underwhelming. They had no soda, and we all (9) had to share 1 big bottle of water. Ok, fine, no troubles. Then, they ran out of plenty of entrees, so we were limited on what to order. My sister watched the staff spray the table while there were still items on it, while my dad watched and listened as the staff were gossiping about all the patrons (including us) in the restaurant. It was quite uncomfortable. Sorry not sorry, but this place is no longer it and the entire staff needs an entire overhaul of retraining if you want to salvage this place.

Heartbroken and hungry, we kept walking around the area until suddenly, we find ourselves at Soler Street and this yellow sign was staring back at us: GREEN. PLANET. VEGETARIAN. Thank you, universe! I've tried a few vegetarian places in Binondo, but this relatively newish addition to Chinatown takes the whole cake! Taiwanese-owned Green Planet Vegetarian serves a variety of tasty vegetarian and vegan food at super 'sulit' prices. Much like a super clean, glorified 'turo-turo', you can get a rice meal with 3 viands for only Php 100, and with complimentary hot tea, too! Try their veggie sisig (creamy and dairy-free!) and their crowd-pleaser, fried miteng (gluten), which has a beautiful, chewy texture and savory flavor--amazing when dipped in vinegar. Another favorite of mine is their radish cake, a slice for only Php 15! Being sold here as well are vegetarian and vegan food items such as Magic Meat (dehydrated TVP made locally), canned barbecue sauce, and this Taiwanese granulated mushroom seasoning (reminiscent of the local Magic Sarap seasoning--look for the package with that very strange smiling mushroom). I've also heard from their staff that they're planning to open a Makati branch!

Besides, most of the good stuff really is made out of meat. They're the ones that are the tastiest to my taste buds. That said, I found myself in a weird predicament once when I had agreed to share a meal with a friend and she chose this particular place. I had half the mind to blow off her choice, but decided against it thinking that it'd be rude. My eyes went across the board hoping that it would come across something that I would find remotely interesting. To my surprise I found everything interesting. There's a lot on their menu that's actually appetizing. I had the veggie burger sliders on account of the fact that it was the cheapest. It's not that bad, I mean I expected things to be a lot worse since usually stuff that's health doesn't taste good.

Sadly, the quality of their meals has declined since their store first went into operation, and is now palatable at best. Before I transitioned into veganism, I've had their veggie burgers and they were just passable -- they smell and taste vaguely like a burger, but with none of the flavor punch. I don't expect it to taste like meat, but it could have had more flavor aside from the mayo and ketchup. Their zucchini fries (vegan) were alright. Same goes for the bean and cheese taquitos, which are served hot and melty, good if you're vegetarian. The bite-sized vegan kuchay dumplings are tasty, crunchy, and served piping-hot. Tofu with veggies on rice are also okay, and would be better without the sauce that's like soy sauce-flavored library paste. But the kicker was the veggie pad thai. It did not look like pad thai, nor did it taste remotely like it. IMPOSTOR. It was just a cup of sticky, overcooked rice noodles coated in a flavorless textured brown sauce topped with thick slices of badly mixed omelet (the white and yolk aren't blended properly), a few strips of unseasoned fried tofu, and a slice of buttered toast. Buttered toast does not belong on pad thai. And from what I recall, it should at least taste like peanuts, chili, lime or calamansi, and sweet soy, plus it should have at least some bean sprouts, spring onions, bell peppers, and more peanuts. I swear I could hear Gordon Ramsay throwing F-bombs in my head. My point is, if you cannot serve a dish properly, even if it's a budget version, then don't serve it at all. Better if they had stuck to their specialty shakes than expanded their menu with substandard meals. For the same price of that pad thai, I could get an excellent vegan bibimbap that's good for two from this new store in our neighborhood. The first and last time I ate that pad thai, I wished I had eaten air instead. Or the ornamental plants. The thing is, I've always been rooting for C'Verde as well as other budget vegan-friendly shops. It's sad to see such a promising store fall to the wrong cost-cutting measures that are likely to alienate their target clientele in the long run.

I highly recommend the fish relleno and veggie wraps -- they're hefty, textural, layered with flavor. Their chilled taho is also tasty. The staff accommodates requests for adjusting vegetarian dishes into vegan meals. I did have a slight issue with their soup and shepherd's pie. Both were underseasoned and flat. I understand that some dishes don't include garlic and onion for Ayurvedic reasons, but they could use other spices to enhance their ingredients' natural flavors. Also, if you're sensitive to soy, you might want to skip the mock meat dishes because they're soy-based. The relaxed atmosphere encourages quiet, which is great for those who enjoy eating their meals in peace. The place is also surrounded by greenery, making it a charming spot to sit around. And if you're looking for local plant-based health products like veggie meat, cold-pressed coconut oil, and grains, you can purchase these from their mini-shop. If you want to get acquainted with vegetarian/vegan fare, this is a good place to visit.

Apparently at many dining establishments, advertised "vegetarian" items do end up containing fish or animal-based ingredients. So yeah, I was most definitely on high alert! Thankfully my non-plant based colleague I traveled with had previously dined at Pipino and was cool with us going there, so this ended up being my first meal in Manila. We ordered an appetizer (Unfortunately I cannot remember WHAT - perhaps buffalo fried cauliflower? Whatever it was, it was good because we ate it all!), a margarita, and Tofu Sisig with Garlic Rice. So . . . the margarita was neon green and comprised of . . . vodka? It was just lightly sweet, no tarty margarita flavors. Maybe it was Midori liquor mixed with vodka? I could have asked but I didn't want to potentially be insulting. Not going to lie, that threw me off and made me apprehensive about the rest of the meal. I mean, it wasn't undrinkable, but it just wasn't a margarita. Maybe there are other renditions of a magarita and I'm being an ignorant American - totally possible! Thankfully the Tofu Sisig ended up being quite delicious, I would say, even unique? My colleague remarked that it tasted interesting, but "not bad," hah. I quite enjoyed it. There were an ample amount of tofu chunks in a seemingly coconutty, but slightly tart thick sauce. I suppose it was calamansi (Filipino limes) mixed with coconut cream, soy sauce, and I'm not sure what else? I'm very unfamiliar with Filipino cuisine, so I can't really say! But I thought it was quite tasty, and honestly, it was even tastier the next day, cold, before my morning run, hah. The rice was rice, pretty decent and paired well with the tofu! Service was prompt and the prices were affordable! If I ever do receive the opportunity to return to the Manila, I would be quite keen on revisiting Pipino!

We had no idea where it was at all, but call it fate, as we turned onto Malingap, the street of our favorite shawarma joint (saving that for another review), we stumbled upon it right after - and on the day of their post-renovation re-opening! Good timing, universe. We started off the meal with dessert (because that's the best way to go, am I right?), vegan chocolate chip cookies all around. I could've eaten the entire dozen because the balance between the dark cacao and the sweet-but-not-too-sweet muscovado sugar was almost addictive. Their mushroom salpicao and cilantro soup were also good, and although I thought the dalandan balsamic vinaigrette of their Wicked Walnut salad was too sour and their stuffed portobello cheeseburger too mushy, it was redeemed by my favorite dish of the bunch - the veggie triangles! That curried chili sauce was the bomb: cold to the touch, but surprisingly hot and mildly spicy in my mouth. Take it from their menu: maybe being a vegetarian, or at least learning to appreciate this fine cuisine, really is the best thing you can do for yourself and for the planet.

For one, it was much nicer than their place in The Collective--brick walls, warm lighting, and with a playlist that includes Asobi Seksu, you just can't complain. Actually, I can't complain about anything during my stay. Sure, the whole place was packed with senior citizens lunching on a Sunday, but it just proves how Wabi-Sabi has captured the tastebuds of everyone, not just retired hipsters (Lol) such as myself.
