I recently had Kettering Key & Safe change the locks on 2 doors which they charged me $900.00 total for. I did not have that much money so I gave them $250.00 on a debit card and made an agreement to make another payment next Monday. The guy wrote my card number on the bill so I cancelled the card. Also, this guy did something to the door going to my garage as it would no longer open even when unlocked as it was somehow jammed. I called the company and some woman answered the phone very grumpy and sounded like I was waking her up and disturbing her! I told her the problem and said that I wanted the guy to come back and fix the door immediately. Well, this lady seemed to be very uncaring or helpful and it took me several attempts to get the guy over to my home. The guy came back that night and fixed the door and now all of the doors and locks are good but what a hassle! I would not recommend this company to anyone! read more

I had a lock stuck on my front door. Made an appt. the day before. He was an hour and a half late. Chose a friend's job before mine. Did the same thing to me the next day...of course he could have been having coffee for all I know. He was unskilled for the job and unprepared. Kept making excuses. I am not sure why a more experienced rep was not assigned to take over. My front door looks horrible and he has caused more repairs for me. I had to go the evening with an unlocked open door as putty dried in it. He was not skilled enough to salvage the antique knobs that are throughout my house. Also the website states a 10% refund for being late. He charged me 400..for ruining my door. I am still awaiting what the "supervisor" will do. I have not received a refund which is the touch of a button. This company does not honor their policies and has people that are unskilled. Beware!!! read more

A latch broke off of our sliding glass door to our backyard, so we called Kettering Key & Safe to see if they could fix it. We sent multiple pictures to the locksmith because we were not sure if they could fix it, but he did not receive the pictures. He told us that there was a $25 service charge, and we agreed that he could come look at the lock, despite not receiving the pictures we sent twice. The technician was very gracious when he came to visit - he took a picture of the broken latch and sent it to his supervisor, who said that those latches were discontinued and it would be $500 to re-key the door. We said we would think about it. The technician said that he would not charge us the $25 service fee because he did not live very far away and had only spent about 2 minutes in our home. A few hours later, we received an angry phone call from a woman from Kettering Key & Safe accusing us of "refusing to pay the service charge." We explained the situation to her, but she hung up on us. We later found the latch on the sliding door manufacturer's website and ordered it - it is not discontinued. It is unfortunate that the customer service was so poor after the technician had been so gracious and kind to us. read more

Was easy to set up an appointment however was told it would be $19 for a re-key. On day of the appointment, they called (this was good) 10 minutes after the appointment time and said it would be within the hour. A guy called me a few minutes later to confirm the address, right here I knew something was funky as the guy should know where he is going, I figured he was outsourced. So 30 minutes later, he is there and says it is actually $69 to re-key a lock. I then said that is not what the company stated on the phone. For 4 locks this would get out of hand so I told him I would have to wait and do some research. He demanded his service fee a few times and I apologized however the Locksmith-Kettering company should be the one to pay this contractor after quoting the wrong prices ($50/lock less). We spoke with the operator right then and there and they discussed the discrepancy in prices.. I felt for the contractor however I should not have to pay for a bait and switch business model. The operator told me I should still have to pay the fee however she did not understand that I wouldnt have set up the appointment in the first place if I knew their REAL prices. The locksmith then tried to get me to just buy a new combo of locks. I went out to his unmarked car to check them out and he claimed they were Schlage locks and would just point to the box. The box didnt say Schlage on them at all or didnt have any markings on them for that matter and they just felt cheap. I told him that and he just said "Really?" Anyways, hopefully lessons were learned for a few people in this unfortunate situation. I learned a good one tho in that a new set of combo locks (deadbolt and the regular doorknob) can be purchased at Home Depot for $25...not $120 like this locksmith was gonna charge me and they are pretty easy to put in. I am glad I didnt just settle on whatever price they wanted for a re-key or even a new lock combo, especially after the quality of product I would have received and the pushy, sketch service. I would only call these people if you are locked out of car/house and everyone else was closed...not for a re-key or new locks...you or a friend can do it for way cheaper and its easy. read more

This company was awful. They promised to call us within 5 minutes to meet us at the car to create a new key. After 30 minutes of sitting in the freezing cold, we called back and they said the tech had emailed them 10 minutes before and said he couldn't do it and she told us to call someone else to help us. read more

Kettering Key and Safe did not show up for a scheduled appt today. A dispatcher called 1.5 hrs later and said the technician had an emergency, after I sat there waiting. Needless to say I would not recommend Kettering Key and Safe. read more
