I purchased a 2013 Ford Edge and it turned out it had a defective part. A piece of chrome, what I was told was called a Front Grill, went missing. No idea how or when exactly, but likely approximately two weeks ago. I bought the vehicle pre-owned (despite all the bells and whistles, it came up to near retail value for some reason) from a dealership one month ago.
The piece went missing. Can't remember hearing it physically pop off or rattle or drop on the freeway, nor did I get into any accident where it could've popped off, nor did I run into a snow bank that would've caused it to pop off.
Dealership claimed they didn't do FORD service and referred me to a FORD dealership despite my having "full coverage" with both FORD Warranty and "full warranty" with the Dealership.
Contacted local FORD dealership who inspected, gathered data, took photos and then had to take some goofy step of submitting the stuff to FORD Corporate for approval. Shocked, I assumed Dealerships could make the call at their level. Apparently not. FORD dealership didn't get back to me so I called back, only to find FORD denied the Warranty replacement. After further phone calls and further waste of my time and energy, FORD Dealership tells me it looks like it'll cost about $250 to have this part ordered and installed; one stupid piece (three pieces if it's actually a chrome "bar" plus two clips)!
One would think FORD selling such expensive products would foot the bill to cover such a replacement part plus install. Seriously? I am not out to scam them (likely their reason for requiring Dealerships approve the install). Who in their right mind buys a nearly new vehicle only to try and scam the manufacturer for a dinky part?! What is the point in that?
Called a toll free number directly to FORD to appeal the decision/judgement but they wouldn't budge. This is unacceptable so I've gone back to the Dealership I bought the car from and the guy who sold me the vehicle quit his job. Spoke with their Service Dept and Sales Mgr and they wouldn't help. Referred me back to FORD Dealership. Went back to FORD Dealership. They won't help either.
Their toll free number "service/support" initially was apologetic, but not sympathetic or empathetic or responsive to my frustration, irritation, agitation or disapproval of their service, or lack thereof. Their ultimate response, "Too bad, so sad. Deal with it."
The huge respect I once had for FORD has significantly dropped as a result. A grade of A is now reduced to D or F for this fiasco and run-around. Considering returning this FORD vehicle for a refund. One would think as a matter of customer service and a means to respect the customer they'd be willing to assist with something so basic as to replace a body part on a very new vehicle, that they'd do something of value. But nope. It's sad.
Since then, I've had Microsoft Sync have an application crash on me once (I'm worried that Sync is tied into the computer of the car's controls) and "rust" on the brake rotors (which the Dealerships claim is normal and common, where if the vehicle's been sitting around for a couple days the moisture in the air causes rust to develop on the brake rotors, resulting in a grinding noise when you apply the brakes, until that rust "grinds off".)
Staff Courteousness gets high marks, and I know some of this is out of their control, but I'd expected them to have fought for the customer instead of just taking FORD's lame stance. - 4 stars for helping assisting in the run around and wasted time and refusal to cover cost of replacement part. read more
