Fantastic venue to celebrate your princess or toddler's bday!…read more Love the setup--kids' blow up castle and rides in the big gym, good for 30 kids easy... then the eating area/room which also quite spacious, in an L-shape layout. Kids washrooms here too. washrooms everywhere. Only minor detail is the kitchen location in between, a 20 feet walk down the hallway. Maya was quite helpful, so the bday package for $200 or whatever, included 2 hrs, 2 pizzas fr Fresh Slice and her help throughout the whole day! Would recommend for sure. Parking isn't as bad compared to the traffic and pedestrians. For the after party and scenery, we knew it'd be good for other families who haven't been to Granville Island for awhile. Plus this centre is a bit heritage like, sure not as modern as the Olympic Village one but it's got character. That's me ;)

I told the desk clerk that I had been a member for over 30yrs and that most of the clerks knew me by name and all they had to do was check my phone number but they kept insisting that I needed photo ID to prove it was me. They wouldn't let me into the class even though the posters stated that all you had to show was your vaccination card and that is all that is required in most places in Vancouver. I was totally very upset by this and Immediately cancelled my classes.

Every time I've passed the Roundhouse Community Center, I've noticed this odd sculpture on the…read moresouth side of the building. On the ground lies a metal cone, and the nose of the cone appears to have been cut off and placed on a small cart. Affixed to the brick exterior of the building on high, above the decapitated cone, is a corrugated metal curtain of sorts, beside a metal hoop. I didn't know that both these components were actually both part of the same sculpture, as they don't seem to be related to each other and, to me, there is minimal to no dialogue between them. Other than being placed in close proximity to each other, I never knew that both these pieces were actually meant to be together, as one piece, by the artist, Richard Prince. Who knew? I researched this piece a bit and learned that the curtain is titled the "Theater of Discovery", and the cone, "The Cone of Analysis". Together the whole work is called "Terra Nova" ("New World"). The meanings of the works are somewhat esoteric, but I can imagine that the bronze curtain affixed to the wall alludes to the theater, and in so doing is appropriately here on display at the Roundhouse (which has an active theater department). I'm not as certain what the severed cone is referring to, although the info online states it pertains to the "geometric forms of .... mathematical truths". I like how the pieces are open to interpretation, as is the case with all contemporary artwork. I've seen kids playing on the cart and cone often, and I like how modern art can be enjoyed in this manner by youngsters. I've attached photos of the sculpture's plaque and the cone; I'll return to get a photo of the metal curtain.
