This community is like other community center. Its old and yes it probably needs some renovation but it has everything that a community center has. It has an ice rink, fitness center, a nice area to chill etc. Its connected to a park. Its convenient and there are lots of street parking. Yes free street parking, I am talking about! The gym is really great for its size. It's on the lower level of the community centre and has a solid cardio section, with treadmills and step machines facing the glass wall and the park, recumbent and upright bikes facing the tvs, and ellipticals which don't really face anything but are on a diagonal at least so they don't cause you to stare at the backs of the folks on the treadmills. There is a weight area with a mirrored wall and some benches and some machines further back. Lots of weights and its heavily used, but always some space to squeeze in and lift. There's also some mat space by the stairs and some additional floor space and steps for those who want to use them. Lots of balls and other matwork accessories. In addition to the main space, there's a sauna, an additional cardio space with rowing machines and stair masters (I think! don't quote me on that!) and another free weight room. They're hidden away down a corridor so I don't think they're as busy. The changerooms are an adequate size, with lots of lockers to use. I live really close so I don't use the showers, but they seem fine, and they're a bit away from the changeroom part so that's nice. Some privacy! If you're poor like me, you can apply for a Leisure Access Card and get reduced rates for the gym and classes. Kits only get 4 stars instead of 5 because their workout classes in the big gym upstairs are hit and miss. Most of the instructors are fantastic, but there's a couple that don't have the energy you need/give confusing directions, and the substitutes the community centre arranges are usually terrible. Like the one old guy who looks like Colonel Sanders. But Mondays & Tuesdays at 6:30, or MWF at 5:30 are great! I'll see you there. read more

This is a story about a blister (aka why skate rentals hurt!) A friend's birthday approaches and I get apprehensive. The reason: we're going skating. Did I mention I have been skating once in my life prior to this? And I was 7? So we arrive, and lace up. It smells like a mix of a high school locker and ice. I mean the rink and the skates :p. But they do have lots of sizes, including really large guys ones (like up to size 15). I think I'm a hot shot -- I'm making my slow way around the rink, gradually letting go of the wall, getting the hang of gliding. I'm doing well! And it is a big rink. There are moments when we're told to start skating the other way, there are breaks when the Zamboni trucks on through and then there is the moment when.. My foot starts to hurt, its burning a bit. I sit out, relax, until they urge me to come back out for one last lap. I oblige. Half way through the circle I feel an incredible burning on my foot, my eyes go wide and I announce I have to turn around. They want me to finish the lap...no...no...no...I have to turn back now! I remove my skate, look at the bright red spot where the skin once was and wince. And wince do I ever for 3 full days I crawled. Have I mentioned that this happened in the least likely of all spots- right on my arch? If I ever get back on a pair of skates, they'll be my own! For now, the non slip grip of grass, concrete and the occasional dirt path will do me just fine! read more

We booked the St George's Room for my son's birthday today and the whole thing was a mess. When we arrived, the woman (Joanna) at the front desk was confused as to who we were and what we were doing there, and at first, led us to the wrong room. Then, when we got to the right room, none of the furniture we had asked to for was there (tables and chairs etc.) so we had to move everything in in the half an hour we had to set up. As a result if this, I was still frantically trying to get all the food and decorations out when our guests began to arrive. Honestly, I was super embarrassed. We were told that the confusion was caused by the fact that our booking had been listed as "tentative" despite the fact that we had paid, in full, 10 days beforehand. Joanna wasn't particularly helpful and only agreed to bring the furniture down after several requests but then, I suppose it's hard when you're the only person on duty... During the party we were left to our own devices, which was totally fine and actually quite nice since we could just get on with things. Might have been nice to have had someone peek there head in and ask if we'd got set up ok given the previous kuffuffle, but oh well. At the end, we cleaned up and as I went to leave, we were informed that we needed to stack the chairs. Which was fine, no problem with that, except we weren't told that we would need to do this previously, and their "chair stacking system" wasn't explained to us so we ended up doing it wrong and then having to start over. All of this on top of having to care for a tired one-year old was already too much and then we were told we needed to take out the garbage. Frankly, I lost it at that. Thankfully Joanna actually stepped up and offered to do it for us. So thanks for that Joanna! The room was also nowhere near as nice as it appeared in the pictures posted on the website and I was pretty disappointed considering how much they charge. Over all a bad experience. I won't be going back and I will be warning others not to book these rooms for events. Furthermore: Our booking was on the 23rd of March. We just received our deposit back today...its the 6th of May. I'm pretty sure it's not supposed to take 6 weeks to get our money back, especially after disgraceful service. We had to ask them to send a cheque because they couldn't refund it on Visa unless we came in. They didn't bother to let us know that. I doubt we would have got our deposit back without chasing it up. To their credit, they did try to placate us with a $50 giftcard which, although it doesn't give me back my son's first birthday party (sans embarrassment and chaos) was somewhat nice. There will certainly be no next time. read more

I've gone for several gym visits and always feel satisfied when I leave. The equipment is kept well-maintained and clean, there are sign-up boards to help with busy periods, a couple different rooms with gym equipment, TVs, co-ed sauna and a hot-tub too. read more

This review is about the aerobics classes and front desk staff. I have been going here for several years and evening front desk staff are always unfriendly and completely unhelpful. Aerobics classes need to be completely redone with new instructors who show up and are uninjured. Such a great fit community and aerobics classes should be full but you need instructors that make people want to return. read more

This gym has everything you need.. weights, a good selection of machines, pretty clean changing rooms. I usually go in the morning and it busy enough to make it interesting, but you never need to wait for a machine. There's a bunch of different people who work out here from grannies to pro- gym bunnies. I buy 10 pass tickets and can drop in whenever I feel like it. The gyms in the UK aren't set up like this (you have to sign up for expensive long term contracts) so I love the flexibility. I've never used the hot tub or sauna (it doesn't look that appealing to me) but some of my friends go up here for cheap relaxation after snowboarding. This is a great community gym and I recommend it. read more

Always love the kits-y feeling here. Older rink but feels historic. Not the most modern changing rooms, but it's clean and pretty good ice. Well-lit parking lot. always fun playing hockey here and have a decent drop-in crowd. read more

Great gym. Consistently good. I like the sauna and hot tub. They are missing a quad exercise machine. But they are forgiving since the place has great lighting and the air is very breathable unlike the oval gym that I used to go to. read more

Pretty good fitness centre. It is busy but there is lots of cardio equipment so that there is no wait. The equipment looks fairly new and there is 2 big rooms. It is nice that the cardio equipment faces the window overlooking the park and TV's too. It is one of the larger fitness centre operated by city of Vancouver. Price is reasonable if you buy the 10 pass card or a monthly pass. There is hot tub and sauna to help you relax after work out. The change room is a good size too and you need to bring your own lock or borrow one from reception. read more

NHL size ice surface, stands are small and are on one side only. It's a fairly cold rink so bundle up especially in the early mornings. Odd fact: it's exactly the same as the Sunset rink. read more

I come here to use the fitness centre and have been over the years. Great location. Beautiful cherry blossom trees out the window. Hours of operation are great 'cause it's open late, unlike other places. Price is very reasonable, compared to private gyms. I always find it a comfortable place to workout. Not intimidating. The cardio selection is great. Lots of free parking on site. Not to mention years ago they kept my bunny in his carrier at the front desk when I had left Ron Zalko 'cause the man himself was being a dick and told me to put the bunny in the trunk of my car, in a locker, or in the public hallway..outside of the business. read more

NEEDS MORE STAFF......very nice community centre and the fitness centre is exceptional. However. The downside is that it is very busy and they do not have very many front desk staff and you have to wait a long time to be helped. I feel be bad for the staff because it can get very busy. Last time I was there I had to wait 15 minutes before I could pay my drop in to the gym because there was an old lady buying promotion cards and a newcomer to canada In line in front of me. They need to have more people to work the front desk to improve customer service but besides that this facility is very good. read more
