I fell in love with the language (I also had…read morean awesome teacher, which played a big role in loving Swedish so much), so when I graduated from UBC, I wanted to continue studying Swedish. Unfortunately I was only able to complete one year of Swedish due to the timing of my graduation, and I couldn't take the second year Swedish class after I graduated because the course was only offered during the day, which interfered with having to work. However, I found out that Swedish (and the other Nordic languages) was offered at the Scandinavian Community Center, and took some classes over the years. The teacher was nice, but the quality of the instruction was nothing compared to UBC. But it was definitely better than nothing, and the price was very reasonable. The last time I took lessons at the Scandinavian Community Center was years ago, probably 2013. I'd love to take more lessons, but taking transit there is a nightmare. The community center is in the middle of nowhere, and there are two busses you can take from Metrotown Station, the #110 and #144 buses. The bus ride is quite long, 20 to 30 minutes (because they take these meandering routes), the timing is such that they arrive way before the class starts or minutes after it starts, and the two buses leave Metrotown within minutes of each other, so you miss one, and you miss both. And in the evening, the timing doesn't align with the class's end time, so you either have to leave class early or wait for half an hour in the dark, at an unlit bus stop, that's just a bus stop sign stuck in a ditch on the side of a super busy highway. Perhaps things are different than when I took lessons, but back then, to walk to and from the bus stop to the center (which was at night, as the class starts at 7pm and ends at 9pm), there was no sidewalk so you had to walk on the side of a busy highway and hope a car didn't hit you. It was particularly terrifying when it was pitch black (there was no lighting) and raining. I'd love to give the Scandinavian Community Center more stars, and I'd love to take more Swedish lessons, but the location is horrible and not reasonably transit accessible, and the instruction is only so-so, so not worth it for me to make the trek.

Theres one cafeteria inside,well atleast you can get some foods to relieved your hunger. One sports store inside i saw some sale bit i didnt buy anything. I was here for education a union educ,class roomr are big and well lighted,temperature is comfi... On my breaks i peep on some rooms that hosting some dance,sports,zumba etc. Very well maotained facility,neat and washrooms are immaculately clean..

We received the last few passes to attend the class and rushed upstairs to attend. Our instructor waited a few minutes for everyone to get settled before beginning the class and just like that we were off. As one song became another and the sweat started flowing it was apparent that our instructor really enjoyed the music and leading the class. It certainly didn't come naturally to me but in this case I think it's all about the rhythm, enjoyment and exercise. I would absolutely return for another class here. Nice facilities and welcoming to all.

I would say inside is decently clean other than the washroom. Looks like they need someone to attend to the washroom. It is a very big complex with two floors. Awesome that it has AC inside. Great for escaping the hot weather. Best of all there are plenty of free parking outside.

I just called Edmonds Community Centre to inquire about why I have not received credit for a class…read morewherein my instructor did not show up. I expressed to the lady over the phone that the credit was not added to my account but she said she I needed to wait. However, when I expressed to the lady at the front desk today, November 13, that this credit was supposed to be given 3 weeks ago on October 23, 2023, she rushed to the end the conversation and hung up on me. I understand it was a holiday but maybe don't pick up the phone if you're just going to refuse me service?

There is a playground and ball field, and the community centre itself is way back next to the footpath down to the creek. It has its own parking area. Burnaby Parks & Recreation schedule preschool morning programs here, and the current theme for Fridays is "Little Green Thumbs" (plants & gardening). Last spring with this theme, the children painted pots and planted pansies, grew sunflower seeds, and read stories about seeds, plants and growing things. Last fall the theme was Incredible Edible and they read stories about food and prepared simple dishes and ate them (like "The Very Hungry Caterpillar" and made fruit salad), and the last winter it was Young Einsteins and they worked on science stories & simple experiments (like baking soda/vinegar volcanoes). Teachers Andrea and Mashida were great during all three terms so far. The group of children in these classes will end up together in kindergarten at neighboring Seaforth, so it's a great opportunity for local kids who attend private preschools a few days a week to also spend time with and get to know their future schoolmates one morning per week.

The instructors here showed an alarming lack of professionalism and misused their authority to unfairly target and humiliate him. They made false accusations, shouted at him without cause, punished him with arbitrary "time-outs," and consistently treated him with disrespect. Their behavior was not only inappropriate but also harmful. As a parent, I find this completely unacceptable. Children should feel safe, supported, and encouraged--not shamed, blamed, or bullied by the very people entrusted to care for them.

Friday volleyball is very popular) - Less than 10 minute walk from the Metrotown skytrain - A couple of EV charging stations ($2.00/hour) Bad - Archaic booking system (no online booking system available. You have to call to book a squash/racquetball court) - Half the time when you call, staff doesn't answer - Downstairs weight room is cramped - 1 combo court (normally used for squash or racquetball but they currently refuse to move it) - 50% of the time the men's shower facilities don't have body wash You get what you pay for at Bonsor. (This review is mainly for the Fitness Centre)…read more As impressive as some Before & After, Thompson Community Centre (TCC) Fitness Centre has done the same with its interior. A majority of the gym's equipment has been updated with new, smoother, legible, and more padded machines. If it's grey, black, and blue... it's new! The fitness centre has strategically placed TV's with air conditioning to a cool, comfortable temperature as you get your sweat on. Half the gym is lined with windows to allow for natural sunlight and outdoor sights and the other half is lined with mirrors for your viewing pleasure as you count those reps and pump those muscles. Considering the size of the fitness centre, it packs a well-organized and good variety of: - Cardio machines like exercise bikes, rowing machines, step machines, ellipticals and treadmills with screens, iPhone connections, and fans. - Weight training machines to target all the major muscle groups of your body that you desire. - Free weights from 2.5 to 90 lbs with a variety of benches and plenty of mirror space. - Bench press, Squat rack and a Smith machine round out the major equipment. There's so many other equipment choices you can find like jump ropes, kettlebells, resistance bands, weight belts, medicine balls, mats, foam roller, and full and half exercise balls. Not sure where to start? There's always someone in the fitness centre that can answer your questions, and at times there's a certified fitness trainer present. If this isn't enough, the fitness centre pass also includes group fitness classes such as yoga, run clubs, outdoor bootcamp, functionality training and more. Once you're all done and sweaty, change rooms are available with lockers (bring your own lock) and showers outside of the fitness room beside the restrooms. Fitness centre drop-in (as of Fall 2013) is $5.30. There are 10 visit punch cards and monthly options in which the deals get better as more months you buy. A 3 month pass is $98 which works out to be around $30/month. Youth and Senior passes available at a discounted rate. The centre opens Monday-Friday 6am-9:45pm and Saturday-Sunday 8am-8:45pm. Also, the fitness centre is usually open on holidays unlike some other places. No excuses now people - get your pump on! Overall great fitness centre but it does get a little crowded and occasionally slightly smelly when its peak gym times. Regardless, it's a great fitness centre that offers a lot towards your health, fitness and goal in becoming the next Arnold! So get your sweat and reps on fellow Yelpers! ;) FYI: Wi-fi available at TCC, just ask the front desk for the password!
